Fish barrier work starts on I-5

BELLINGHAM — A three-year project to remove 17 barriers to fish migration along a 6-mile stretch of Interstate 5 in Skagit and Whatcom counties is scheduled to start Wednesday.

Kiewit Infrastructure West-PND Engineers is the design-builder on the $159.6 million Washington State Department of Transportation project that includes building 10 new structures designed to allow fish to swim freely under I-5 and nearby county roads near Lake Samish.
