SNOHOMISH Crews with Washington State Department of Transportation contractor Scarsella Bros started construction this week on a $9 million fish passage barrier removal project at US 2 at Sexton Creek, a tributary to the Pilchuck River, just south of Three Lakes Road near Snohomish.
The project includes removing the two existing 5-foot steel culverts that run for over 180 feet under US 2, and replacing them with a fish-passable structure. This new structure has the potential to open habitat for Chinook, coho, pink and chum salmon and steelhead, sea-run cutthroat, bull and resident trout, WSDOT said.
