In ‘herculean effort,' Hanford's historic waste treatment facility comes online

The Low-Activity Waste Facility is part of a larger multi-billion-dollar Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant at Hanford that’s been decades in the making.

Operations have begun at a new Hanford treatment facility that encases radioactive and hazardous waste in glass, where it's expected to remain stable for thousands of years.
