Ecology seeks input on Hanford permit

RICHLAND — The state Department of Ecology is seeking public comments on its draft permit renewal covering the waste sites and facilities at the Hanford Nuclear Site in southeast Washington.

The proposed Hanford Sitewide Permit, Revision 9A, would expand regulatory oversight to 52 waste sites and facilities, significantly increasing coverage from the current permit. Ecology says the permit is one of its primary tools for ensuring the safe management of mixed hazardous and radioactive waste at one of the nation's most complex environmental cleanup sites.
