Work zone camera launches near JBLM

OLYMPIA — Drivers speeding through active work zones on Interstate-5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord could soon be getting tickets in the mail, thanks to a speed camera scheduled to begin enforcement there today.

The trailer-mounted speed camera is the first of three the Washington State Department of Transportation plans to launch this spring, with up to three more rotating through active sites by this summer. WSDOT said in a Monday release it selected the first site because of ongoing safety concerns with speeding there. WSDOT plans to rotate the camera between construction, maintenance and emergency projects where speeding is an issue.
