SKYKOMISH — The Great Northern and Cascade Railway is open for its 2025 summer season, offering free miniature train rides every Saturday through the end of October. The rides run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are open to the public at no cost.
Located in downtown Skykomish, the volunteer-run railway features over 5,000 feet of 7½-inch gauge track, including a tunnel, snow shed, and two bridges. Each ride lasts approximately 10 to 12 minutes. Locomotives vary from electric and gas-powered to propane, oil, and coal-fired steam engines. Sunday rides are no longer offered due to a shortage of volunteers.
