Start 2026 on the trail

OLYMPIA — More than 30 Washington state parks will ring in 2026 with First Day Hikes on Jan. 1, offering guided and self-guided outings to help visitors welcome the new year outdoors. The annual tradition returns with snowshoe trips, ranger-led walks, interpretive talks and family-friendly treks across the state.

This year's lineup includes guided snowshoe hikes at Fields Spring, Lake Easton and Lake Wenatchee, with two Mount Spokane routes leading to the Smith Gap warming hut and the Vista House. Other options range from a history walk along the Snake River ferry route, to wildlife viewing near Banks Lake, to short coastal wetland strolls and equestrian-friendly self-guided rides.
