New shows by Music of Remembrance

SEATTLE — Music of Remembrance has announced its 2026-27 concert season, “Illuminations: Music for Our Shared Humanity,” featuring four programs centered on stories of displacement, resilience and artistic legacy. The Seattle-based organization's 29th season includes two commissioned world premieres, new choreography and the Seattle premiere of a theatrical song cycle by composer Jake Heggie.

The season opens Nov. 1 at Benaroya Hall with “Journeys,” highlighted by Steve Reich's “Different Trains” in celebration of the composer's 90th birthday, alongside Sahba Aminikia's “Stormy Seas,” which tells the stories of child refugees. Additional performances include the free “Art From Ashes” concert on Jan. 25 for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, featuring the world premiere of Lori Laitman's “Bonaco,” and “Resilience” on March 14 with a new work by Afghan composer Milad Yousufi and new choreography by Donald Byrd.
