Library opens Puerto Rico exhibit

By JOURNAL STAFF

SEATTLE — A new photography exhibit at The Seattle Public Library's Central Library examines the contrast between Puerto Rico's image as a tropical paradise and the realities faced by residents of the U.S. territory.

“Battle for Paradise: Puerto Rico, restrictions apply*” by Library Artist in Residence Jo Cosme explores issues including restricted access to land and beaches, rising living costs and the displacement of local communities. The exhibit uses photography and personal stories to examine how tourism, colonialism and disaster-related policies have affected life on the archipelago.
