SEATTLE -- As the rainy season once again hits Seattle, warmth and sunshine become ever more appealing to soggy Northwesterners. Fortunately, Northwest Folklife is offering an evening in the tropics at "A Caribbean Caper" where eating, bidding and dancing are the key ingredients.
The annual fund-raising event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Woodland Park Zoo's Rain Forest Pavilion, beginning at 5 p.m. The Caribbean theme carries over from the 2000 Northwest Folklife Festival and includes Caribbean-style food, music and dancing (complete with dance lessons). Auctioneer Larry Taylor presides over silent and live auctions.
Items on the auction block include hard-to-come-by experiences, including a vacation getaway in Red Rock Canyon in Utah; 10 days in the heart of the Rhone Valley in Provence, France; musical performances; made-to-order meals and catering packages; and holiday gift ideas such as spa packages and international food baskets.
Tickets are $60 per person. To make reservations call (206) 684-7019 or email auction@nwfolklife.org. Reservations must be made by Friday, Nov. 3. Cost includes admission, dinner, beverages, dance lessons and dancing. Proceeds benefit Northwest Folklife and year-round educational programs.
