After Hours: Japan meets West in SAM exhibition

“Bustling Port of Kobe,” a work by Hasegawa Sadanobu II published in 1871, is on display at Seattle Art Museum.

SEATTLE — Seattle Art Museum has just opened “Japan Envisions the West,” a 142-work collection that casts a light on early interactions between Japan and the West between the 16th and 19th centuries.
