After Hours: Hot Nights, Cool Jazz at MOHAI

Duke Ellington won’t be at MOHAI of course, but he was here in 1949 when Al Smith took this photo at Seattle’s Civic Auditorium.

SEATTLE — Spend a summer evening dancing at MOHAI on Saturday with Hot Nights, Cool Jazz. There'll be live music, dancing, workshops and more from 5 to 8 p.m. to mark the end of an exhibit of photos by Al Smith called “Seattle on the Spot.”

Nate Omdal and Friends will play jazz, and Seattle's Styles of Steppin dancers will teach Chicago-style steppin', Texas swing out and soul line dance, a line formation with sequenced, repetitive steps. Make your own beats and play your own jazz at an “instrument petting zoo” with the Music Center of the Northwest. Light snacks are provided by Eat Drink Catering.

MOHAI is at 860 Terry Ave. N., in Lake Union Park. Information is at mohai.org, on Facebook, or by calling (206) 324-1126, ext. 126.
