After Hours: Make a beer run to Bellingham

Bellingham is holding its first beer run on Sunday, Oct. 21 with the 30-mile Trails to Taps Relay.

BELLINGHAM — Whatcom Events said registration is filling up fast for the first Trails to Taps Relay on Sunday, Oct. 21.

About 100 teams of 5 to 10 runners will take part in the 10-leg relay run that highlights Bellingham's abundance of breweries and running trails.

Each leg of the 30-mile course will use local trails, parks and streets, and end at a different brewery where runners receive four beer tickets to use anywhere throughout the day. Teammates can gather at Depot Market Square from noon to 4 p.m., and sample all the participating breweries and local food trucks. There will be a raffle, and a costume contest at 3 p.m.

Breweries will include Boundary Bay, Stones Throw, Kulshan, Wander, Chuckanut, Gruff and Lost Giants Cider Co.

Organizers say beer races, relays and chases have gotten popular in the past couple of years and it's high time for one in Bellingham, which tops many beer-related lists.

Proceeds will go to Lydia Place to support its mission of disrupting the cycle of homelessness.

Information and registration is at http://trailstotaps.com/.
