Jacobson Ray McLaughlin Fillips

Kathy Kendall has been hired as public relations writer and editor by Seattle-based advertising and public relations firm Jacobson Ray McLaughlin Fillips. Kendall spent the last six years as senior public relations writer and trade publicity coordinator for APA, the Engineered Wood Association, a Tacoma-headquartered non-profit trade association representing manufacturers of engineered wood products in North America.

Weber + Thompson Architects

Kristen Scott has been promoted to associate at Seattle-based Weber + Thompson Architects. Previously, she was a project architect with the firm, and has managed a variety of projects from feasibility stages through construction.

Seattle Espresso Machine Co.

Seattle Espresso Machine Co. has introduced a new type of espresso making equipment -- the S series -- which utilizes microprocessor circuitry to automate the routine aspects of brewing. Made in Seattle, the S-100 single and S-200 double station commercial espresso machines allows for pouring directly into the largest espresso cup and ensures consistent temperature and continuous steam via separate steaming and brewing tanks monitored by the microprocessor. Seattle Expresso Company recently moved into a new Seattle manufacturing facility to handle growth in demand.

SU Small Business Institute

Seattle University's Small Business Institute, which provides teams of graduate and undergraduate business students to conduct in-depth consulting at no charge, is currently seeking business participants for summer quarter (June 19 to August 12). The institute, sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Albers School of Business and Economics Entrepreneurship Center, has worked with more than 1,600 clients during the past 18 years. It handles approximately 50 cases a year in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. To be eligible, a business must have fewer than 50 employees, have been in business for more than a year or be sole proprietors wanting to expand, and be able to provide information on its operations for a minimum six-month period. Dynamic Systems Inc.

Bothell-based computer hardware, system design and service provider Dynamic Systems Inc. has named Diane Bostick as senior account executive. Most recently, Bostick worked for Bellevue-based Intermec Corp. and managed bar code solution accounts for clients including Weyerhaeuser and The Boeing Co. In 1992, Bostick was recognized as "Sales Person of the Year" by the Sales and Marketing Executives of Seattle and in 1989 as "Employee of the Year" by Intermec's National Users Group.

Bank Northwest

Bob Moles Jr. has announced the formation of Bank Northwest, a new community bank in Bellingham. Arnie Wright has been named president and chief executive officer. Formerly, Wright was president and chief executive officer for Whatcom State Bank. Moles, president of Whatcom Memorial Inc., and owner of Jones-Moles Funeral Home, Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale, and Greenacres Funeral Home and Memorial Park, is serving as acting chair of the recently formed board of directors. Other officers include: Michael L. O'Connor, former vice president and chief financial officer at Whatcom State Bank, serving as senior vice president and CFO; and Wayne Young, who served as vice president an branch manager for Whatcom State Bank, as Bank Northwest vice president and branch manager. The bank is scheduled to open downtown at 100 Grand Ave. in September. Two additional offices are planned within the Whatcom County area in the next five years.

Molbak's

Roger Luce has been named vice president of Plant Sales, a new division of Woodinville-based gardening retailer Molbak's. Luce has worked for Molbak's since 1973, filling a number of management positions in the company, most recently as production manager for greenhouse operations. Tom Takacs, who joined the company in 1981 and was previously senior grower, will replace Luce at the production manager position.

Cole & Weber

Cole & Weber, a national advertising agency with offices in Seattle and Portland, has been tapped by Tacoma-based Nalley's Fine Foods Inc. to develop brand-management programs for the company's Adams Peanut Butter and Nalley's Chili labels., which are distributed primarily through high-volume supermarket chains on the West Coast. The 64-year-old advertising agency's client list also includes other Northwest blue chippers like Boeing, Weyerhaeuser and Safeco.

Zimmer Gunsul Frasca

Zimmer Gunsul Frasca (ZGF) has promoted two staff members to the level of associate. Clint Diener is currently serving as project architect for the new Redmond West Campus for Microsoft. Other projects in which he has been involved since joining the firm in 1991 are the 1,024-bed Airway Heights Corrections Center for the Washington State Department of Corrections and the U.S. Navy Fleet Support Complex in Bremerton. Dan Simpson joined the firm in 1992 and has participated as a design team member on the Microsoft Redmond Campus. He is a senior designer with over 15 years of experience. Other projects at ZGF include the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center for Group Health Cooperative and the University Village Shopping Center Improvements in Seattle.

Northwest Architectural Company

Michael O'Malley has been named an associate with Northwest Architectural Company of Spokane and Seattle. He rejoined the firm in 1990 and his responsibilities have included the award-winning Wenatchee Middle School, Command Post at Fairchild Air Force Base, an intelligence technical training facility at Fairchild Survival School and several medical projects.

TRC

Robin "Buzz" Towne has retired from Towne, Richards & Chaudiere, Inc. (TRC) after more than 35 years as president of the firm. TRC's new president is Dan Bruck, a consultant in architectural and environmental acoustics and audio system design who has been with the firm since 1969. He teaches undergraduate courses in the physics of sound and space and the physics of color and light at Cornish College of the Arts.

HBI

Michael van Zonneveld has been named executive vice president and partner at HBI Office Interiors and has acquired a minority stockholder position within the corporation.

Notkin

Dick Geoghegan has joined the staff of Notkin Engineering as a project engineer and is providing mechanical design for the Bristol-Myers Squibb Barrier Vivarium Laboratory expansion. His experience includes mechanical design for municipal facilities, corrections facilities, wastewater treatment plants, electric power generation plants and clean rooms. Maia Speer has joined the firm as a project engineer and is now at work on the Washington State Public Health laboratory improvements, the Starbucks headquarters expansion and the Sacred Heart Medical Center emergency room expansion.

Alpha

Ron V. Perrone has joined Alpha Engineering Group as manager of Alpha's railroad group. Perrone's experience includes industrial spurs, storage tracks, intermodal facilities, streetcar and light rail tracks and intermodal facilities.

Entranco

Entranco has announced the addition of three new shareholders in the firm. David Martin specializes in road engineering, from simple overlays to major interstate reconstruction and realignment. Scott Sherrow is a project manager at Entranco specializing in site development and street and utility design. She has been responsible for site and civil engineering for Brighton's Landing and Belvedere Park in King County. Jim Milne of the Phoenix, Ariz. office of Entranco, provided construction management for the Center Parkway Connection Bridge in Tempe and is serving as project engineer for the design and construction of the Bridgewater Channel Dredging in Lake Havasu. Entranco has also added several new staff members. Choomeng Chin, a civil engineer, has seven years of site development experience and was most recently with Group Four of Bothell. He specializes in stormwater and septic systems. Donald Mellott, a registered engineer-in-training and former captain with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is presently involved in roadway design and utility layout work for local projects including Redmond Town Center and Valley Avenue improvements in Sumner. Cynthia Dasovich, also an engineer-in-training, has completed an internship with the City of Redmond where she was responsible for traffic data collection and analysis. At Entranco, she is assisting in private development traffic studies and city-wide transportation plans. Torsten Lienau, engineer-in-training, has also recently joined Entranco's traffic/transportation unit. He was recently a research scientist at the Texas Transportation Institute. Lienau assists Entranco in computer traffic modeling and signalization analysis. Jim Purkey is a land surveyor who was previously survey manager at Western Surveyor in Everett. He is responsible for survey project management at Entranco. Katie Hart has joined Entranco as marketing coordinator. She comes to the firm following a communications position with the Seattle Engineering Department and the Washington State Department of Transportation. She is a recent graduate of the University of Washington.

Shockey/Brent

Joseph N. Brown has joined the planning staff of Shockey/Brent. He is a graduate landscape architect with four years experience in design and permitting of a variety of development projects. He also has expertise in computer aided design (CAD.)

WaterLeaf

Susan M. Steckler joined WaterLeaf Architecture & Interiors in February as marketing manager. She is responsible for marketing, media relations, client relations and proposal management for the firm's Portland and Seattle offices. Steckler was recently with Terra Associates, Inc. She is vice president of education for the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). Dawn L. Campbell was recently promoted into marketing and administrative services to assist with WaterLeaf's marketing effort.

Triad

Michael Mathia, who specializes in land development, highways and public works, has joined Triad Associates as a project engineer. He is at work on Gleneagle, a 450-acre planned community and 18-hole golf course in Arlington and a 254-lot single-family residential development in King County. Roy Lewis has returned to Triad as a senior project engineer with expertise in development engineering, recreation design, municipal engineering and hydrologic analysis. He is also at work on Gleneagle.

Notkin

Notkin Engineering, Inc. has several new projects in the office, including the Bristol-Myers Squibb Barrier Vivarium Laboratory expansion, Washington State Public Health laboratory improvements, the Starbucks headquarters expansion, the Sacred Heart Medical Center emergency room expansion, the Federal Reserve Bank renovation, the Electrical Engineering Commuter Science and Engineering Building at the University of Washington, ventilation improvements at the University of Washington Medical Center, and the Base Area Expansion project at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
