First Interstate Bank has appointed vice president Marilyn Joyce Metz to the expanded private client services group in Bellevue. Metz has been in banking for 20 years, 16 of those with First Interstate affiliates. The bank has also hired veteran trust professional Tom Grandorf as trust officer and assistant vice president of its Seattle office. Prior to joining First Interstate, Grandorf worked for Bank of America, where he was co-manager of its Taft-Hartley Plan department when he left. He has also worked as manager of the employee benefit department for the Bank of California, and for Peoples National Bank as trust officer and administrator.
Chris Dugovich has been re-elected president and chief executive officer of the Washington State Council of County & City Employees, AFSCME AFL-CIO, for a four-year term. Dugovich has 15 years of experience as a labor leader. His organizing efforts included the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorneys -- the first prosecuting attorneys in the nation to organize. Two other union officials also retained their state offices and have begun new four-year terms. Roy Bannam, employee of the Clark County Public Works Department, has been re-elected vice president and Judy Johnson, a Bellingham Public Library employee, has been re-elected secretary/treasurer.
Seattle-based public relations firm MWW/Savitt has hired Karen Mensonides as assistant account executive. Previously, Mensonides was assistant in the Conferences and Events Office at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. She has also worked as associate planner and administrator for a conference center dedicated to philosophical and political scholarship.
Korean carrier Asiana Airlines took delivery of its second Boeing 747-400 freighter on June 27 and immediately filled it with approximately 253,000 pounds of Washington state cherries headed from from Seattle to Tokyo. The plane is one of five new Boeing jets with a combined value of $500 million being acquired by Asiana during 1995. The airline also has ordered two more of the all-cargo jets for delivery in 1997 and 1999. Asiana Airlines, which also began scheduled passenger service in May between Seattle and Seoul, Korea, flies 28 international routes serving a total of 38 cities in 10 countries in Asia, Far Eastern Europe and the United States.
ICONCO Inc. has announced the reopening of its Northwestern regional office, and has appointed William E.Rose as vice president/general manager. Rose was formerly vice president for Olshan Demolishing Co., and business development and operations manager for Cleveland Wrecking Co. ICONCO Inc. is a nationwide demolition and salvage company with experience ranging from selective interior demolition to complete plant dismantlement and salvage. The company also offers environmental services from asbestos and lead abatement to superfund projects.

Physio-Control Corp., a Redmond-based manufacturer and dealer of defibrillator/monitor/pacemakers and other medical instruments, has appointed Michael Willingham vice president of quality and regulatory affairs. He has been with Physio-Control for 11 years, the last two-and-a-half as director of regulatory affairs and standards. Previously, he worked as quality engineer for Advanced Technology Labs in Bothell.
The National Kitchens and Baths Association (NKBA) has recognized Delores Hyden, who works for Redmond-based Showplace Kitchens and Baths, for her outstanding design abilities with an honorable mention in its 1995 design contest. Hyden has also had her design work featured in American home style magazine's Kitchen and Bath Custom Planner.
Towne Bank has named W.A. Botting President Pete Botting chairman of its board. He replaces Ted Szatrowski, who was the original chairman. Botting and Szatrowski both served as organizers of the bank which has grown to $43 million in assets since opening in 1990 and is just opening a third location in Redmond. Other offices are in Woodinville and Redmond.
Home improvement warehouse chain Homebase has appointed Dave Clibon as garden buyer. Clibon has over 18 years of experience in lawn and garden merchandising. He most recently served as director of operations for Torrance, Calif.-based Dexol Industries. Prior to that, he was lawn and garden buyer for Atlanta-based The Home Depot.
Vicky Webb has joined Seattle-based Continental Savings Bank as manager of its downtown Seattle branch, located at 1314 Sixth Ave. Webb has more than 25 years of experience in the banking industry. She previously served as manager of the downtown branch of the former University Savings Bank. Before that, she spent 15 years at Great Western Savings Bank, where she held several positions including marketing director and regional manager.
Randal J. Cook has been promoted to principal at Merritt+Pardini of Tacoma and Seattle. He specializes in the design and project management of operations and maintenance facilities. His current projects include the Alderwood Water Distract maintenance and operations facility and master planning for five Pierce County maintenance and operations facilities. Ron S. Thomas, with 20 years experience in architecture and urban planning, has also been promoted to principal at Merritt+Pardini. He specializes in master planning projects an municipal facilities, including city halls and public safety buildings. Some of his current projects are the Asarco Tacoma Smelter Property Master Plan, the Thea Foss Waterway master plan and public safety facilities for Tukwila, Enumclaw and Clyde Hill.
The Bellevue office of David Evans & Associates Inc. (DEA) has appointed four new associates with the firm and hired several new staff members Bart Cima, the transportation discipline leader, has been named an associate with DEA. He is active in the development of intelligent vehicle highway systems (IVHS) for state departments of transportation and toll authorities across the country. Andrew Gorski, recently appointed associate, started with the firm five years ago by opening the Bellingham office. Now located in the Bellevue office, Gorski is a leader of in natural resources services and environmental marketing. He specializes in transportation, parks and port facilities. Kirk Hackler, a landscape architect with project management and design experience in both traditional and natural resource based landscape architectural projects, has been named an associate. Hackler is responsible for the design of parks, commercial landscapes, wetlands, streams, native areas restorations and water quality projects. Michael Riggs, a civil engineer who specializes in traffic and transportation, has been named an associate at DEA. He prepares traffic impact analyses for private developers and has had significant experience in the planning and design of urban traffic signal systems and arterial channelization. Roderick Carr has joined DEA as a senior environmental scientist. Carr has 29 years of experience in facility related studies, designs and investigations. He has directed several large projects supporting Department of Defense environmental restoration programs, and was recently the project manager for several environmental assessments for the Coast Guard in the New York Harbor Area. James Benson joined DEA as a multi-modal transportation planner. Benson has a background in growth management, transit systems planning, and pedestrian systems planning. Felipe Primera joined DEA as a senior transportation technician. He has been involved in every aspect of plan preparation for numerous city, county and state agencies. Jennifer Birdseye joined DEA as a senior marketing coordinator. Her responsibilities include vendor coordination, market research, proposal coordination, presentation coaching and team building.
James M. Schmidt has joined Golder Associates, Inc. Redmond office as senior engineer. Schmidt, as graduate of Michigan State University with over 12 years experience in civil, geotechnical and environmental engineering, will be responsible for managing local and national geotechnical engineering projects. J. Douglas Mather has also joined the Redmond office of Golder, as a senior chemist. Mather holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of New Mexico and has experience in environmental analysis, PCB remediation technology, hazardous waste treatment, industrial materials and manufacturing process development. Mather will be responsible for the chemistry section of the environmental sciences group.
BERGER/ABAM has added three members to the engineering staff. Christopher Walcott has joined BERGER/ABAM as a senior engineer. His background includes work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where he was involved in numerous bridge design projects. His experience also includes site design and traffic channelization. Diana Flores has joined the firm as a site engineer. Her background includes work with the Washington State Department of Transportation Highway Division, where she was responsible for bridge designs and cost analysis studies. At BERGER/ABAM, she will focus on seismic analysis, remediation design and new design for public works projects. Will Bohlen has become a associate engineer at BERGER/ABAM. He began as an intern with the firm in 1994, and holds and engineering degree form the University of Illinois.
The United States Committee on Large Dams, or UNSCOLD, elected Glenn Tarbox as its president last month in San Francisco. Tarbox is R.W. Beck's national director of Water Resources, and will represent the U.S. at the annual meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams, or ICOLD, in Oslo, Norway, next month.
CBGKL, a mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm in Portland, has hired Ray Herndon as project manager. He recently relocated form Bremerton, where he was involved in the expansion to the Hollister-Stier Pharmaceutical Lab, the Spokane Boeing Fabrication plant and the Northwest Indian Interpretive Center.
Cheryl Owens has been named director of design services at Turnkey Business Interiors, a contract furnishings dealer. Jim Ankrum will handle new business development efforts. He holds a master's degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University.
