Margo Morrison has been appointed director of sales for WOSCA Shippers Cooperative, a Seattle-headquartered organization serving large and small shippers via a network of terminals across the United States. Morrison joined WOSCA's inside sales department in 1988, and then served as an account executive in both Seattle and Portland. She was appointed Oregon sales manager in 1994. Before joining WOSCA, she served for 15 years with Union Pacific Railroad, managing their customer service departments in the Pacific Northwest.
Michael Carr has been named vice president of human resources-training for Bellevue-based Italian restaurant chain Cucina! Cucina! Inc. Carr has 27 years of experience in the restaurant industry. He worked for 20 years for Black Angus restaurants and left the company as vice president of administration.
Washington Natural Gas has promoted Kathryn O. Sharp to manager of employee relations. Previously, Sharp was employee communications team leader for the Seattle-based gas utility. She joined Washington Natural Gas in 1990 as a public relations representative and served as educational services representative from 1991 to 1994. Before joining Washington Natural Gas, she worked for the University of Washington and Edmonds Community College. The company also announced the promotion of Lori R. Wile from senior financial analyst to manager of strategic planning and budgeting. Wile joined Washington Natural Gas in 1990 as a financial analyst. She formerly worked for Duff & Phelps Financial Consulting and Stein Roe & Farnham, both of Chicago, Ill.

First Interstate Bank has appointed Vice President P.J. Million to retail sales manager in its Northwest Region Investment Services Department. Based in Tigard, Ore., her responsibilities include directing and overseeing a sales management team and sales force of 120 people in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. Million has been developing and managing sales programs for banks for the past 13 years. After working at San Antonio Savings for three years, she joined First Interstate in 1989 as a sales manager to develop and implement a tax-deferred annuity program. The company also announced the appointment of Assistant Vice President Tom Unger to public communications manager for the five-state region. Unger started his career in the news media, working for 10 years as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Oregon, British Columbia and California. Later, as an award-winning corporate communicator, he worked for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and St. Vincent Medical Center, both in Los Angeles. He joined First Interstate in 1992 as a senior writer in the Employee Communications Department of the bank's California Region.
Jenny Tallis has joined Weekend Sports magazine to facilitate the expansion of their strategic advertising department serving the Northwest region. As vice president of strategic advertising for the regional sports and fitness magazine, she will develop marketing programs for advertisers targeting the Northwest active sports market. The expansion was necessitated by Weekend Sports' moves into multi-media advertising. The magazine is currently published electronically on America OnLine and plans to expand into broadcast media later this year, following its one-year anniversary.
Deloitte & Touche's Pacific Northwest practice office has appointed 20-year company veteran Thomas J. Hoover as partner in charge of the accounting and auditing practice. Hoover leads the office's public utility industry practice and is an active member of the Northwest Electric Power and Light Association.
SEATTLE -- Starbucks Corp. has hired Michael Casey as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Casey brings more than 20 years of financial expertise to Starbucks. He will oversee accounting, administration and finance. Casey had been executive vice president and chief financial officer for Family Restaurants Inc., a chain with more than 900 units and $1.2 billion in annual sales. His accomplishments have included: restructuring and refinancing the public debt for Family Restaurants; spearheading the leveraged buyout of W.R. Grace Restaurant Group; and structuring an initial public offering for El Torito Restaurants Inc. He was also president of El Torito from 1988-1993.
Karen Perry has been promoted from cost accountant to assistant controller at SDL Corp. Perry's role will be to assist with financial reporting and manage the day-to-day departmental accounting functions. She has been with the company for eight years.
Holaday-Parks Inc. recently announced Eric van der Veen has joined its staff in the plan/spec department as a project estimator. Van der Veen interned at Holaday-Parks while attending Seattle Pacific University, where he received his degree. Prior to SPU, he attended the University of Oregon and Fries Avond College in the Netherlands.
Patrick L. Duong has joined Todd Shipyards Corp. as chief financial officer. Duong comes from the San Francisco area, where he was chief financial officer of Alcatel TITN Inc., a developer of data communications software and PC-based hardware.
Callison Architecture has promoted 14 senior staff members. Lois Jean Broadway, Greg S. Carpenter, Ted Caloger, Steve Dwoskin, Diane Emick, Steven S. Harmon, Christopher Hamilton, Stanley Laegreid, M.J. Munsell, Mike Scott, Dale Stern, Erie O. Stone, Gary Wakatsuki and George K. Wickwire.
Darryl Olson has joined KJM & Associates, Inc. as an associate. With 27 years of experience in construction related financial positions, he is responsible for accounting and human relations functions.
BOORA of Portland has added six new employees to the staff. Jennifer Lakeman is a graphic designer, responsible for graphics for various architectural projects as well as marketing materials. Garrett Martin, a graduate of Harvard University Graduate School of Design, is currently working on a new Nike Town for New York. Linda Muerle joins BOORA as a job captain for the Nike Town San Francisco project. David Perzik is currently working on the Oregon Veteran's Home in The Dalles and the Kaiser Salmon Creek Medical Office Building in Vancouver. He was previously with Lee, Burkhart, Liu Architects of Santa Monica, Calif. Anne Wilson, who holds a degree in interior design, is working on a variety of projects including two Nike Towns and a health club at the Fisherman's Wharf Marriott in San Francisco. David Yosick joins the design team for a new athletic center for the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. Prior to joining BOORA, Yosick was with Cardwell/Thomas Inc., in Seattle.
