Jim Reid, manager of King County's Planning and Community Development Division from March 1992 until earlier this year, has opened a new management consulting and mediation firm based in Seattle called The Falconer Group. Under Reid's supervision, Planning and Community Development produced two landmark policy documents to implement the State's 1990 Growth Management Act: the Countywide Planning Policies and the 1994 King County Comprehensive Plan. He and his staff of 75 also developed and implemented nationally acclaimed programs in land use, housing, economic and community development, and environmental protection. Reid teaches mediation and negotiation at the University of Washington's Graduate School of Public Affairs.
The Fearey Group, a Seattle-based public relations and marketing communications firm, has promoted Scott Janzen to senior vice president. Janzen joined The Fearey Group in November 1994. His 18 years of communications experience includes 12 years of agency work with Cole & Weber, Elgin Syferd and Borders, Perrin & Norrander, along with his own firm, Janzen & Associates. He has supervised work on over 50 local and national accounts, including Eddie Bauer, Nintendo, Beck's Beer, Nalley's, McDonald's and the Washington State Lottery.
Sprague Israel Giles of Seattle has announced the following changes: Employee benefits manager Sean P. Corry has been elected vice president of the firm. Susan Watchie Olden, formerly with a local brokerage, has joined the firm as a producer. And, John M. Policar, a 1994 graduate of the University of Washington, has joined the firm and will be a producer for both the commercial & personal lines insurance.
Seattle public relations firm The Bartlett Group has added several new accounts, including McCormick & Schmick's newest restaurant on Seattle's Lake Union, KPFF Consulting Engineers, The Marjan Companies, Bay Pavilion at Pier 57 and the Washington Home Remodeling and Decorating Show.
Holiday shoppers at Southcenter Mall can donate a new toy to homeless and low-income children at the YMCA of Seattle-King County through the mall's "Favorite Things" Gift Drive. Children and their parents are encouraged to purchase a new version of a favorite toy game or book and drop it, unwrapped, in the bin located near Mervyn's inside the Southcenter Mall, from Dec. 1-24.
Barb Kiliz, president of Seattle-based VFX Advertising Inc., is slated to be added to the 1996-97 directory of Who's Who in Executive Professionals. Kiliz has worked in the industry for over 15 years. He has been president of VFX for nearly four years. The company primarily serves industrial and business-to-business accounts in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska.

Larry Ogg, currently executive vice president and manager of commercial markets at Seafirst Bank, has been added to the Shoreline Community College board of trustees. At the board's first meeting, he presented the college with a $5,000 donation from the Seafirst Foundation in support of a new scholarship program for Asians studying criminal justice. Ogg began his career at Seafirst in 1967 and has been manager of human resources, western commercial banking, the Eastside region, and the Business Service Center and the Banking Center. In addition, he has managed the bank's Bellevue, Ballard, South Seattle and Old Seattle branches. Ogg also has served on the Bellevue Community College Foundation and the Seattle Central Community College Advisory Board.
United States Premiere Access Network, an Internet marketing company, has hired three new vice presidents. Jane Taylor has joined the company as vice president of sales and marketing. She previously was regional marketing director for Digital Music Express and vice president of public relations for Nancy Welts Productions in Seattle. Ted Woodberry, formerly an account team leader at Monkey House Multi-Media and a project manager with Seattle's Cole and Weber, has been hired as vice president, content and on-line marketing. Jack Knudsen is USPAN's new vice president of operations. He comes the company after serving as executive vice president of the Washington Hotel/Motel Association and president of FORMA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westin Hotels and Resorts.
Northwest Racing Associates, builders of Emerald Downs, a thoroughbred racetrack currently under construction in Auburn, has selected Borders Perrin & Norrander as its advertising agency. The Portland/Seattle-based firm will help develop a multi-faceted marketing plan for the racing facility, scheduled for a June 1996 opening. The agency has handled marketing communications for clients such as Key Bank, Red Lion Hotels, Semi-Ah-Moo Resort, and the Port of Portland.
Digital Systems International Inc., a Redmond-based provider of computer/telephone-based customer management solutions, has announced that David J. Evans has accepted the position of consulting director, organization and strategy development, to the DSI board of directors. He joins renowned high-technology futurist George Gilder. The company is still looking for a consulting director for community investing. Evans is principal of Evans and Associates, a California-based new venture, strategy and marketing/sales consulting company. Previously, he held management positions with Apple Computer, Electronic Arts, Rolm-IBM and VMX (now Octel).
St. Philip de Neri Catholic Church in Portland has chosen The Bumgardner Architects to develop a master plan for future church renovation. Originally designed by Pietro Belluschi and built in 1949, the brick and concrete church is located in the Ladd's Addition Historic Dictrict of Portland. According to Kim Armbruster, director of liturgy and music, Bumgardner was chosen for its church design and restoration backgound and because the firm "is noted for involving the entire community in the process and developing consensus as the project progresses."
TeamDesign has been awarded new projects from NeoPath and Ostex for an identity package and the production of an annual report, respectively. Weyerhaeuser has also selected the visual communications firm for the design of its 1995 Annual Environmental Performance Report.
The Traver Company has been selected to create a new graphic identity for the Frye Art Museum, which is currently undergoing a major renovation.
