The Seattle office of Sedgwick James of Washington Inc. has achieved Iso 9000 certification, a quality control system whose standards, published in 1987 by the International Organization for Standardization in Switzerland, have been adopted by more than 100 countries, including the United States. Sedgwick is the first insurance broker and benefits/risk management organization in the United States to receive the certification. The property/casualty and employee benefits consulting units were certified to Iso 9001, providing a model for quality assurance in design, development, implementation, and servicing; and the personal insurance division received iso 9002 certification covering development, implementation, and servicing. The Iso certificates were awarded by SGS International Certification Services Inc., a worldwide organization in the field of inspection and verification.
The Economic Development Council of Seattle and King County (EDC) has announced the arrival of The Washington Entrepreneurs Guide - How to Start and Manage a Business in Washington, a guide which comes complete with financial software and a database of business resources in Washington state. The organization also announced that the publication Foundations for the Future: An Economic Strategy for the Central Puget Sound Region, co-published by the EDC, is now free to EDC's members. Seattle-based Aerolist Photographers Inc., specializing in oblique aerial photography of the Pacific Northwest, now has a site on the World Wide Web. The company has built a stock picture library of over 800,000 images, updating it annually.
The Woodmark Hotel, located at Carillon Point in Kirkland, received its fourth consecutive Four-Star Award from the 1996 Mobil Travel Guide. The Mobil Travel Guide Four-Star Award is used in the 1996 Mobil Travel Guide to signify an "outstanding property--worth a special trip". The guide is published by Fodor's Travel Publications Inc., and lists more than 20,000 things to see and do, and more than 20,000 dining and lodging establishments rated annually on Mobil's "One-to-Five-Star" Quality - Rating System.
Jennifer Song has been hired by communications company of Seattle Elgin DDB as a production coordinator. Previously, Song worked in the public relations department at AT&T Wireless Services. Elgin Syferd Public Relations (ESPR) promoted Sue Anne Jones to account executive. Jones has been with ESPR since September 1994, when she came on board as an assistant account executive. ESPR also hired Dan Miller as an assistant account executive. For the past four months, Miller has worked as a contractor for ESPR.
The Home Depot, a retailer in the home improvement industry based in Atlanta which currently operates 423 stores in the United States and Canada, has named managers for two Home Depot Stores. Dave Ward has been appointed store manager of the Seattle Home Depot Store. Ward was formerly the manager of the Tacoma Store. He joined The Home Depot 10 years ago in Los Angeles. And, Neil Goehri has been appointed manager of a new Home Depot Store which will open in Bothell in April. Goehri comes from the Seattle Home Depot Store, located at Sodo Center, where he was manager. He joined the company nine years ago in San Diego.

Flightcraft Inc. announced that sales of new Piper aircraft will now be headquartered in Eugene, Ore., due to the fact that the company had been named the exclusive dealer for all new Piper aircraft in the states of Washington, Oregon and Alaska. Flightcraft in Eugene will support the sales of all Piper products by warehousing a full inventory of parts and will have full service capability for all aircraft sold. Flightcraft's service centers in Seattle and Portland will also support the maintenance of Piper products. Flightcraft's new Piper designated service administrator is John Pleskovitch.
USConnect Seattle, an educational center for technical training based in Seattle, has added several people and promoted members of its staff. Penni Malutin and James M. Robertson have joined the education department as network instructors. Malutin is a Certified Netware Engineer(CNE), Enterprise Certified Netware Engineer(ECNE), and a Certified Netware Instructor(CNI). Prior to joining USConnect Seattle, she was an information systems specialist for the Port of Tacoma. Robertson is a CNE, Master CNE, ECNE and CNI. Before joining USConnect Seattle, he was a senior systems analyst at St. Peters Hospital in Olympia. William del Valle moves into the position of director of Education. His background includes marketing and sales of the USConnect Education Services. Prior to USConnect Seattle, he was with McCaw Communications/Cellular One as an area marketing representative. Lisa Redburg has been promoted to sales representative for the education department. She has been with the company for a year and held an administrative support position. Previously she was the national accounts assistant at The Chas. H. Lilly Co. in Seattle.
King County Executive Gary Locke has named Paul Tanaka deputy King County executive with responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of county services to public. Tanaka, currently director of the county's new Department of Natural Resources, succeeds Charlie Earl who returns to a management consulting practice. Locke last fall picked Tanaka to head the Department of Natural Resources, a new agency that merged the county's Solid Waste Division, Commission for Marketing Recyclable Materials and Surface Water Management Division with Metro's Water Pollution Control Division. The new department also houses a new Natural Resources Division that manages the county's open space, agricultural, forestry and other land resource programs. Tanaka served as director of the King County Department of Public Works from 1988 to 1995, was deputy director from 1983 to 1988 and served as a staff assistant to the county executive from 1979 to 1983. He began his career in King County government as a program analyst in the Budget Division in 1978.
Emerald Downs, the new thoroughbred horse racing track under construction in Auburn, has appointed the following: Pat Wentz, controller; Joe Withee, director of broadcast publicity; Lorri Smith, director of customer services; Chris Elliott, group sales manager; Kerry Dalton, gift shop manager; Steve Dunham, director of information technology; Brooke Michelle, director of promotions; Gary Jones, director of maintenance; Danny Wakgira, beverage manager; Dave Nielsen, turf club manager; Kim Corona, accounting supervisor; Leanne Kenyon, accounting staff; Maureen Hallett, administrative assistant; and Billie Harris, assistant chef.
Northwest Cable Advertising of Seattle awarded its 1995 "Most Valuable Player" honor to Reagan Froelich, production coordinator. Froelich received an all-expenses-paid trip to the destination of her choice, a prize worth $2,500.
Tere Foster, associate broker of Coldwell Banker Bain has been acknowledged in the top one percent locally and nationally for four consecutive years in residential real estate with sales totalling over $50,000,000. Heather Cammett has been named a sales associate of the Kirkland office of Coldwell Banker Bain Associates. In her new position she'll be working with new homes sales and resales, focusing on two plats on Seattle's Eastside. Cammett graduated from the University of Washington is 1990.
Cain and Scott has announced the promotion of Dail Quaintance-Bodziony to vice president, and manager of the company's Counseling and Appraisal Services Groups. Quaintance-Bodziony has 15 years of real estate industry experience in appraisal, market analysis, feasibility studies, and valuations for trust and estate planning. The last four years she has specialized in multi-family, including mixed-use developments, federal tax credit properties, and large scale apartment properties, existing and proposed.
Robert E. Kirshenbaum has been named director of sales and marketing for the Golf Club at Newcastle, 36-hole complex that is being built on a site between Bellevue and Renton. He will supervise the membership development program for the Coal Creek Course, an exclusive, 18 holes private course that will be limited to 400 members. Kirshenbaum has more than 20 years of marketing and sales management experience, most recently as a regional vice president for Leon Shaffer Golnick Advertising. The Golf Club at Newcastle, a project of Bellevue-based Oki Developments, Inc., will be a tournament-caliber course with extensive practice and training facilities. The private course and clubhouse are scheduled to open in mid-1997, with an 18 hole public course slated for completion the following year.
Vice president and chief appraiser for KeyBank of Washington, Ronald A. Chynoweth, has been named chief appraiser and environmental services manager for KeyCorp's Northwest Region. Chynoweth will be responsible for real estate appraisal, evaluation, and environmental processes as they relate to real estate lending practices in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. Chynoweth, a past member of the board of directors of the Appraisal Institute, received his general appraisal certification in 1990. He graduated from Boise State University with a bachelor's degree in real estate and economics.
Donald Wong has joined SeaMark Properties, Inc. as a condominium property manager. Wong brings eight years of experience in condominium property management to his new position as SeaMark, including management of the largest condominium complex in western Canada. He has managed more than 2,200 condominium units, including new construction in the Seattle area, as well as Vancouver, B.C. Wong graduated form the University of Washington with a BA Degree. SeaMark Properties, Inc., founded in 1975, is a real estate investment, development, brokerage and property management firm.
Harper Bond, Inc. Commercial Division recognized their top five sales agents for 1995 at their 1995 Annual Awards Banquet. Those honored were Top Producer, Bon Park, international sales; Top Salesperson, Mike Bradley, commercial/industrial and income property; Michael Moore commercial/investments and land; Sang J. Noh, investments/business opportunities and Ken Anderson, commercial investment and land. Harper Bond will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 1996.
Northwest Landing has earned a Grand Award for "best community design" in the 12th annual Best in American Living (BALA) national design contest sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders and Professional Builders magazine. In the category "communities with more than 150 units" judges singled out Northwest Landing for its elements of small town living, continuity between the site plan and architecture, environmental sensitivity and varied housing densities. There were more than 330 BALA entries overall.
John L. Scott Real Estate honored the top agents in the Western Washington Region at its annual convention at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. The top 1 percent agents are ranked based on production and have demonstrated outstanding sales and service to the public. Fisher Properties announced the closing of a $27 million loan for West Lake Union Center with Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of New York. Fisher president said "Fisher began the planning of West Lake Union Center in 1984 and is pleased to have successfully reached this milestone with Teacher's financing." The 185,000 facility was ready for occupancy in March, 1994 and reached 98 percent occupancy in mid 1995. The project includes a recently-completed pedestrian overpass which established a landmark connection to the lake front across Westlake Avenue North.
