Sun Sportswear

Kent-based Sun Sportswear, an apparel screen printer of casual sportswear, has appointed Sandy Teufel as senior vice president of sales and merchandising for the combined women's/girl's and the men's/boy's sales divisions. Teufel has been with the company for seven years, most recently as senior vice president of the women's/girl's division. The company has also announced several elements of a restructuring plan geared toward improving profitability. Steps include downsizing administrative areas, increasing the use of automated manufacturing processes, instituting production incentives and reorganizing the sourcing and quality assurance functions. Sun will immediately eliminate approximately 30 indirect positions from its employee work force.

Tulsa Dental Products

Kevin Shaw has been selected as sales representative for the Tulsa, Okla.-based Tulsa Dental Products line of endodontic products and accessories in Oregon and Washington. Shaw's previous employment included sales positions in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Piper Jaffray Inc.

Michael L. Bell Jr. has joined the Bellevue office of Piper Jaffray Inc., a Minneapolis-based investment firm, as an investment executive. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, Bell was Northwest sales manager and southwest region manager for Crown Transport Systems in Tukwila. He also served as an account executive with PIE in Los Angeles.

Association of Legal Support Professionals

Two Washington Association of Legal Support Professionals (Washington ALSP) members have received a Jett Award, a national recognition from the National Association of Legal Secretaries (NALS) acknowledging the work of members in a variety of categories. Cindy Manson, certified PLS of Cody Hatch & Blanchard in Lynnwood, received the Keystone Award (1st place) for Chapter Development in the classification of state association. Her "Pamphlet to local Bar Associations" was recognized as a leading marketing tool for state associations. Manson submitted her entry on behalf of the Washington ALSP. Virginia De Lay, certified PLS of Preston Gates & Ellis in Seattle, received the Cornerstone Award (2nd place) for chapter development in the classification of large chapter. Her work with the King County Bar Association was considered one of the best in the nation and includes a joint seminar/court tour in October each year. De Lay submitted her entry on behalf of the Greater Seattle Legal Secretaries Association.

Holiday Inn Select

Olympia-based Holiday Inn Select will celebrate a grand opening tomorrow following a new affiliation, building renovation and added guest amenities. Attending will be approximately 45 Olympic Torch bearers. Holiday Inn Select is a sponsor of the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Middleton named partner at Davis Wright Tremaine

Alan S. Middleton has been named partner at Davis Wright Tremaine. Middleton, a general commercial litigation attorney in the firm's Seattle office, focuses his litigation practice in the areas of banking, construction, real estate, land use and intellectual property. Davis Wright Tremaine is a national law firm with more than 270 attorneys in 11 offices.

Stoel Rives names new partner

John E. Poffenbarger has been named a partner at Stoel Rives, practicing in the Seattle office. Poffenbarger concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and business planning for privately-held companies. He also handles business formations, sales, acquisitions; shareholders agreements; and business succession planning. Stoel Rives has nearly 250 attorneys practicing in Seattle, Vancouver (Wash), Portland, Boise, Salt Lake City and Washington D.C.

Garvey Schubert & Barer merger

The intellectual property law firm of Baron Lieberworth & Warner has merged its practice with Garvey Schubert & Barer. William F. Baron, David Lieberworth and Scott G. Warner are of counsel to Garvey Schebuert and practice in the firm's Seattle office. Baron has counseled high technology businesses since 1977 with a focus on negotiation technology relationships and protecting intellectual property. His clients have included software developers, hardware manufactures and biotechnology companies as well as major software users such as hospitals and municipalities. Lieberworth focuses on complex commercial litigation involving antitrust and other trade regulations laws, franchise matters, contracts, bankruptcy, trade secrets, copyrights and other intellectual property matters. Warner represents high technology and other emerging growth companies with an emphasis on computer law, protection of intellectual property rights and franchise and trade regulation. Seed & Berry

William O. Ferron Jr. has been named managing partner of Seed & Berry, a Seattle intellectual property law firm. Ferron will continue to specialize in software protection, licensing, litigation, general trademark and copyright matters. Kevin J. Canning has become a partner with Seed & Berry, and will continue to specialize in computer patent matters. Niles appointed to international law committee Margaret Niles, an attorney with the Seattle-based firm Preston Gates & Ellis whose practice focuses on international business issues with the former Soviet Union, has been appointed to the American Bar Association Committee on the Newly Independent States of the Soviet Union. This committee, which is organized under the Bar's International Law and Practice Section, is intended to help attorneys keep abreast of the many legal issues arising in connection with doing business with the former Soviet Union.

Hickman honored

William R. Hickman, a shareholder in Seattle's Reed McClure law firm, has been named Official of the Year by the Pacific Northwest Track & Field Officials Association. Hickman founded the Seattle Track Club in 1976, and is a master level track and field official. Hickman is also a member of USA Track & Field and serves on its rules committee, law and legislation committee and the Doping Appeals Board.

New associates join Betts Patterson & Mines

Attorneys Julie M. Azevedo, Thomas M. Hansen, Celeste A. McDonell and Allison G. Pettit have joined the law firm of Betts Patterson & Mines, in Seattle. Azevedo concentrates her practice in insurance defense and insurance coverage litigation. She is licensed to practice in California and Washington, the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Eastern District of California, and the Western District of Washington. Hansen practices real estate, real property and contracts law. McDonell, a 1981 graduate of the Seattle University School of Law, focuses her practice on family law and estate planning. Pettit, concentrates her practice in general litigation and business law. Betts Patterson & Mines is a Seattle law firm of 34 attorneys which provides legal services with an emphasis on civil litigation, insurance, business and tax law.

Whaley and Williams elected

Lucinda S. Whaley and Patricia C. Williams, both principals at the law firm of Winston & Cashatt, are among five Eastern Washington attorneys elected to terms as officers in the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Washington for the 1995-96 year. Whaley was elected president of the association. Her practice includes trial work with an emphasis in all areas of commercial litigation. Williams, elected trustee at-large, specializes in the practice of bankruptcy law and also handles many types of commercial transactions and employment issues. Other officers include: Ken Isserlis elected vice president of the association; Brian Rekofke elected as secretary treasurer; and Jim Egan elected trustee at large.
