Hammerquist & Saffel

Hammerquist & Saffel is launching two new ad campaigns for their client The North Face. The campaigns mark a move away from the previous product-specific focus to an athletic-driven one. One will highlight members of the brand's Climbing Team and another will introduce Tekware, a high-performance line of clothing. The purpose of the campaign highlighting The North Face's climbing team is: (1) to hold on the authenticity of the brand by showing the products being used by the world's best climbers, and (2) to invite new consumers to the brand by showing the products and the people who use them in an inviting, accessible way. The campaign introducing Tekware will feature the Climbing Team, focusing on a new line of functional, technical clothing that all but replaces cotton, yet points out the benefits of leaving cotton behind.

Cinnabon and Quality Food Centers

Cinnabon World Famous Cinnamon Rolls are now being offered in four Quality Food Centers (QFC), the largest independent supermarket chain in the Seattle/Puget Sound region. The newest location is at the Northgate QFC. Cinnabon has about 40 bakeries located in supermarkets in the Northwest, South, East and California. Felipe Ramos will be the bakery manager at the Northgate store.

Puget Power/Washington Energy Company

Puget Sound Power & Light Company and Washington Energy Company have agreed to a merger of the two companies, operating under the name of Puget Sound Energy. Before the merger becomes final, it must be approved by the state regulators. The new company would serve 840,000 electric and 475,000 natural gas customers (including 250,000 customers served by both companies), within a service territory covering approximately 6,000 square miles in western Washington. Puget Power serves customers in Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Kittitas, Pierce, Skagit, Thurston and Whatcom counties. Washington Natural Gas serves customers in King, Snohomish, Pierce, Thurston and Lewis counties.

Pierce Transit

Ken Stanley, director of development for Pierce Transit, will participate in a 10-member national panel on transportation issues at Yosemite Park in California, April 8-11. The panel will evaluate different transportation modes with the goal of improving access to the park and easing traffic flow in surrounding communities. Stanley, the only panel member form Washington state, was chosen because of his expertise in various transportation modes, including buses and light rail. He has 29 years of experience in public transit, including three years at Pierce Transit, where he oversees short-term and long-range capital planning, service planning, marketing and community services. Previously, Stanley worked for AC Transit in Oakland, Calif., and TRI-MET in Portland, Oregon.

Executive Suites Association

The Executive Suites Association (ESA) has chosen Vanette Fontenette, Manager of the Executive Suites at EastRidge in Vancouver, Wash. as one of the National Representatives that will be making a presentation at their Houston Convention. Fontenette will be presenting ideas in a forum called "30 Ideas in 30 Minutes". Washington State Department of Transportation The Washington State Department of Transportation's (WDOT) Aviation Division has named F.E. "Mac" MacSpadden to manage the division's Search and Rescue Program. MacSpadden, a retired Boeing engineer and former US Air Force pilot, has over 3,000 hours flying search and rescue, many of those as a member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). State law gives the WSDOT Aviation Division the responsibility of aerial search and rescue in the state. MacSpadden will coordinate all aerial searches as well as managing the nearly 600 volunteers who support the search and rescue program. Additional duties will include the coordination of practice missions, teaching search and rescue management and training courses and other educational and safety programs.

Therapedic Northwest, Licensee for Therapedic International worldwide bedding group, is opening its new Therapedic Designer Sleep Gallery at David's 84th Street Furniture in Tacoma. The new gallery features a complete line of Therapedic premium sleep products.

Northwest Cable Advertising

Northwest Cable Advertising has promoted Shirley Eclipse to sale supervisor for Bremerton and Poulsbo. Eclipse will oversee three salespeople and a sales assistant. Currently, she is a senior sales representative in NCA's Tacoma office. Along with her new responsibilities, Eclipse will continue to maintain her current clients in Tacoma.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be receiving a grant from the Union Pacific Corporation at an awards luncheon on March 28 at the Columbia Tower Club in Seattle. National officials from the Union Pacific Corporation are coming to Seattle to award corporate grants to 14 Puget Sound non profits including Arts, Education, Hospital and Human Services' organizations. The St. Vincent de Paul Society, Seattle Council, is a Catholic lay organization that mobilizes hundreds of volunteers to make home visits in person-to-person contact with families in need. It also operates two Seattle assistance offices to help the homeless and needy and five King County thrift shops providing affordable item for low income people, employment and free items to many need families.
