Andrew J. Weber and Russ Torrison have joined Piper Jaffray as investment executives. Weber, who was a professional basketball player in Budapest, Hungary, holds a bachelor of science degree in communications from the University of California at Davis. Before joining Piper Jaffray, Torrison was a commercial pilot in Alaska. He holds a bachelor of science degree in flight technology from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.
South Central Schools Superintendent Michael Silver, Ph.D., is one of two Washington State educators appointed to associateship in Cohort V of the Institute for Educational Inquiry's Leadership Program. Dr. Silver, who was nominated by Allen Glenn, University of Washington College of Education, will join Nathalie Gehrke, a professor in the UW College of Education, as participants in the 18-member Cohort, which includes educators from 14 states.
Paul Goldberg has signed a letter of intent to acquire MacDonald Recording, a audio production and sound design studio. A MacDonald employee for five years, Goldberg expects to complete the transaction by mid-May.
The Safeco Board of Directors announced several promotions. Susan Artman, region personal lines underwriting manager in the Southeast Region, has been appointed region vice president of personal lines underwriting. Scott Bartholomaus, retirement services product manager, and Jan Dyar, information systems and services, have been named assistant vice presidents. In addition, Timothy Barclay has been named actuary.
Consolidated Graphics, Inc. has signed a letter of intent to acquire Eagle Press of Sacramento, Calif. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Consolidated Graphics, Inc. is one of the fastest growing printing companies in the United States. With the completion of the acquisitions of Bridgetown Printing in Portland, Ore., and Eagle Press, Consolidated Graphics will operate printing companies in a total of 10 markets which also include Dallas, Denver, Houston, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, Seattle and Tulsa.
Jeff Martine, president and co-founder of Telepress, Inc. is the recipient of the 1995 "Northwest Hall of Fame" award for printing and printing services. Winners in 10 marketing, media and creative services categories were honored at a luncheon presented by the Puget Sound Chapter, American Marketing Association and Media Inc. newspaper, the award sponsors. An independent panel of industry leaders from Oregon and Washington judged nominees on five criteria: innovation and creativity, commitment to excellence, contribution to business/craft, contribution to industry and leadership.
C.B. Crouse has been appointed vice president and officer of Dames & Moore. Crouse, who is based in the international firm's Seattle office, manages technical projects involving the determination of seismic design criteria for new structures and seismic safety surveys of existing structures. Crouse, who holds a doctorate in engineering from th California Institute of Technology, is one of seven new vice presidents and corporate officers.
Alan Osborne, architect and project manager at WaterLeaf Architecture and Interiors, has been promoted to associate in the firm's Portland office. Osborne came to WaterLeaf three years ago with the merger of WaterLeaf and Michael McCulloch Architects. Osborne is currently managing the design of the third block of Taylor Business Center on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Portland. He is also responsible for WaterLeaf's work with First Intestate Bank and the renovation of the historic Telegram Building in downtown Portland. He was a key member of WaterLeaf's design team for the recently completed 27-acre, 11-building campus for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Joyce L. Mullin has joined the Seattle office of WaterLeaf, where she serves as office administrator. She assists with marketing efforts as well. Mullin was most recently with Hammond, Collier & Wade-Livingstone Associates, Inc., and had previously worked for Mahlum & Nordfors McKinley Gordon.
Tom Chapel has joined Broweleit Peterson Architects as a project manager. He comes to the firm from Gregory & Chapel Architects, where he was principal since 1990. He is presently completing Seattle Christian School design documents for a $7 million facility and will be working upon a major renovation for Kellog Middle School in the Shoreline District. Mike Snodgrass has also joined the firm as a project manager. He recently worked for Finley Architects in Everett on educational and commercial projects. He is presently managing a major interior renovation project at the University Presbyterian Church in Seattle. Mark Stine has joined the firm as a job captain, and is currently on the team developing design documents for Seattle Christian School. Emily Noble has joined Broweleit Peterson to assist in general office and marketing functions.
Richard Carothers Associates has made two additions to the staff. William Bernstein, landscape architect and planner, has worked on a wide range of public and private projects in Washington, California and Nevada. He is currently project manger and landscape architect for the Puyallup Tribe gaming facility in Tacoma. Reza Golampor has joined the firm as a project manager and transportation engineer. He has over nine years of experience in traffic and tranportation-related projects as well as stormwater management and public utilities. He is currently at work on Greenhill Technology Park, a 150-acre light industrial park in Eugene Oregon.
