ABKJ

Craig Freas has joined Andersen Bjornstad Kane Jacobs (ABKJ), Inc. as vice president in charge if Alaska operations. Freas has bene in charge of design for buildings, marine facilities, sanitary engineering structures and industrial complexes. Ken Andersen joins the firm as senior project manager, responsible for co-managing the Anchorage office and directing marketing. Previously with Tryck Nyman & Hayes, he has been responsible for engineering projects throughout Alaska, the Pacific Northwest and the Pacific Rim. ABKJ has also promoted three staff members. Adam R. Koczarski has been advanced to senior project engineer. With 14 years of structural engineering experience, recent projects include St. Barbara's Church in Black Diamond, Mt Baker Elementary in Mt. Vernon, the Aviation Technology Building in Anchorage, and the Kodiak Credit Union in Kodiak. Alan C. Johnson has also been named senior project engineer. He is currently project engineer for the Federal Detention Center at SeaTac. Other projects include the ARCO Bayview seismic study in Anchorage, the Federal Reserve Bank in Seattle, and the little Mountain Elementary School in Mt. Vernon. Michael A. Bramhall has been promoted to the level of project engineer, with seven years of experience in structural engineering. He has played a role in the design of six office buildings for Microsoft World Headquarters in Redmond and is currently project managers for Microsoft's Augusta Building #28. Gary F. Conner has also been named project engineer. He has been with ABKJ for six years, and his project experience includes the seismic assessment and retrofit design of the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge, the Fountleroy Expressway, the Spokane Viaduct widening, and the stossel Bridge.

Otak

Paul Wilhelm has joined Otak as network administrator, responsible for managing the office's information system. He has over ten years of computer consulting and network management experience in the architecture and engineering industry. Wilhelm was previously employed by W&H Pacific.

RCA

Richard Carothers Associates has made two additions to the staff. William Bernstein, landscape architect and planner, has worked on a wide range of public and private projects in Washington, California and Nevada. He is currently project manger and landscape architect for the Puyallup Tribe gaming facility in Tacoma. Reza Golampor has joined the firm as a project manager and transportation engineer. He has over nine years of experience in traffic and tranportation-related projects as well as stormwater management and public utilities. He is currently at work on Greenhill Technology Park, a 150-acre light industrial park in Eugene Oregon.

Suyama

Tyler Engle has been named an associate with George Suyama Architects. A graduate of Columbia University, Engle has worked with firms in New York Madrid, Seattle and San Diego.

Morris Stafford

Architect Morris Stafford of Tacoma has been elected to his second year as chairman of the City of Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission. The Landmarks Commission has been involved in design review of such projects as the Union Station Courthouse, University of Washington Tacoma Branch and the State Historical Museum. It is the only design review body for the city.

Galloway + Barker

Page Crutcher, Jonathan Morley, Debby Valentine, Karen Galt and Eric Bramwell are all members of Galloway + Barker Architecture and Landscape Architecture. The firm was formed this spring with the merger of John F. Barker Landscape Architects ande Galloway Architects. Crutcher recently returned from Chapel Hill, North Carolina after four years with The Conservation Fund, and has experience with large landscape conservation planning and design projects, community -based design, greenway planning and development and ecologically based design strategies and principals. Morley specializes in park and recreational facilities and helps to conduct public involvement processes. Valentine handles office accounting, payroll and billings. Karen Galt and Eric Bramwell are both University of Washington student interns.

Downtown Seattle Association

Harold H. Greene, Executive Vice President & Manager of Seafirst Bank was named Chairman of the Downtown Seattle Association Board of Trustees. Mr. Greene succeeds A.M. Clise, President and CEO of Clise Properties, Inc. Assuming the Office of First Vice Chairman is J. Michael Rona, VP & Executive Administrator, Virginia Mason Medical Center. The Office of Vice Chairman is assumed by Thomas P. Harville, Chairman and CEO, The Bon Marche. Blake Nordstrom, Co-President, Norstrom, assumes the Office of Treasurer.

Children's Hospital and Medical Center

Patrick Hagan has joined Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle as its new executive vice president and chief operating officer. Hagan assumes responsibility for the daily operations of the hospital. Over the past 14 years, Hagan has held administrative positions at children's hospitals in Ohio and Arizona. Most recently, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Children's Hospital and Medical Center of Akron, Ohio. Hagan has a BA degree in General Studies and an MHA degree in Hospital and Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Stevens Healthcare

Preston M. Simmons, CHE, Stevens Healthcare executive director, outpatient/facilities, received Diplomate status in the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society representing more than 30,000 healthcare executives. Simmons, who began his career at Stevens in 1990, will now be privileged to use the letters "CHE" after his name in all professional communications, indicating that he is a Certified Healthcare Executive.

Olympic Pipe Line

Former Carnation City Council member and Snoqualmie Valley sheep rancher Linda Pfeiffer will work as a community representative for Olympic Pipe Line Company's Cross State Pipeline project. Pfeiffer will serve as a project representative for the Snoqualmie Valley. She will be working to learn more about community needs and concerns in regard to the pipeline and ensuring that community needs are met. The Cross State Pipeline, proposed by Olympic Pipe Line Company of Renton, would stretch from the King-Snohomish County border east, across Snoqualmie Pass, through Ellensberg and terminate in Pasco. Olympic also proposes to construct a distribution terminal for the pipeline at the town of Kittitas.

WRQ

Patricia Ryan has been named general manager of European operations for WRQ. She is based in WRQ's European headquarters in Den Haag, The Netherlands. In this new position, Ryan will oversee all WRQ sales support, marketing, technical support, and systems engineering activities located in Europe.

Metropolitan King County Council

Twelve community organizations received King County Youth Computing project grants ranging from $17,492 to $50,000. The grants will be used to pay for state-of-the-art, multimedia computers, Internet access and instructors who will teach students office computing skills and video editing as well as help with homework assignments. The centers will be open after school hours and during the summer. All the centers are expected to begin operating by the end of the school year. The computer centers are the result of a joint effort by Councilmembers Pete von Reichbauer and Ron Sims who were looking for ways to help disadvantaged students master computer skills. The grants were awarded to the following: Federal Way Boys and Girls Club, King County Libraries, Kent Youth and Family Services, Center for Human Services, Kirkland/Redmond Boys and Girls Club, Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club, Rainier Community Center Advisory Council, Central Area Motivation Program, Rotary Boys and Girls Club, Seattle Indian Center, Chinese Information Services, and Lambert House/AGLYA.

Metropolitan Travel

Metropolitan Travel, a Seattle-based agency, launched the first interactive travel web site today that allows corporate clients to book real time flights and access travel management reports directly off the Internet. Metropolitan Travel's web site features Metropolitan Information Source (MIS) and Real Time Reservations and Information. MIS is a service that allows customers to access past and present travel itineraries. Customers can pull up records of their flights, hotel reservations, car rentals and frequent flier information, making it easier to reconcile and track past travel expenses. Real Time Reservations allows clients to book flights 24-hours a day without having to know travel jargon such as city and airport codes. AirTouch Cellular

US WEST Cellular today officially begins doing business under the brand name AirTouch Cellular. The new brand is being launched in US WEST Cellular's 12-state service area with a major advertising campaign. Customers will be notified of the official name change through television, radio, newspaper and billboard advertising, bill inserts and direct mail.

Clipper Navigation, Inc.

Victoria Clipper IV will assist the United States and Canadian Coast Guards in a major search and rescue exercise on Tuesday, May 14 from 11:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. off the Victoria waterfront. The exercise is designed to test the ability of search planners and crews from both countries to respond to international maritime distress cases. The Victoria Clipper IV will play the part of a vessel in distress and participate in a mock evacuation involving Clipper life rafts as well as helicopters and other Coast Guard vessels. Volunteers from the Canadian Marine Rescue Association will participate as mock passengers.

Olympic Tug & Barge

Vince Godfrey has joined Olympic Tug & Barge, Inc. as Vice President and General Manager. Godfrey, formerly Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Crowley Marine Services, brings many years of maritime experience to Olympic. He will oversee day to day operations while exploring new business opportunities for the company.
