Jerry McManus has been hired by Redmond-based Parallel Communications to fill the position of new media designer. Clinton Gage has been promoted to the position of new media director. Gage designs and manages the creative development of interactive, multimedia and Web site projects. Parallel Communications is an integrated marketing communications agency that offers companies innovative ways to market their products, services and brands. The agency specializes in traditional advertising, Web site development, identity programs, package design, online marketing/content development and interactive multimedia Adware.
International Absorbents Inc. has appointed Edward Murchie as Chairman of the company's Management Advisory Committee and has been elected to the Board of Directors of its wholly owned subsidiary, Absorption Corp. International Absorbents Inc. develops, manufactures and markets patented and proprietary, cellulose-based, cost-effective, highly absorbent products derived from waste wood pulp.
The Seattle Foundation, Washington state's oldest and largest community foundation, has announced the addition of new board members, the election of officers, and the recipient of the 1996 Chairman's Award. Phyllis Campbell, president and CEO of US Bank of Washington, and Elizabeth Hedreen, an arts advocate and community volunteer, have been elected as trustees. The following trustees have been elected as incoming officers for 1996-1997: Kemper Freeman, chairman, Kemper Development; Roger Eigsti, vice chairman, SAFECO Insurance Company; Tod Hamachek, vice chairman, PENWEST; James Ladd, treasurer, Ladd Pacific Consulting; Susan Duffy, secretary, Davis Wright Tremaine. Kindering Center of Bellevue has been named recipient the 1996 Chairman's Award. The center provides comprehensive services to disabled, abused and medically fragile babies and toddlers.
Matthew Bien has joined MacDonald Recording as partner and business manager. MacDonald Recording produces sound for television, radio and film, and is involved in the production of CD-ROMs and the top radio show in Vietnam.
Capt. Annette E. Brown will relieve Capt. Dale H. Moses as commanding officer of Naval Station Everett. A change of command ceremony will be held Thursday, June 27 at 2 p.m. on Jackson Plaza at the Naval Station. A retirement ceremony in honor of Capt. Moses will be held afterwards. Capt. Moses assumed command of Naval Station Everett in August 1994, five months after the naval station was dedicated.
QualData, Inc. has developed `on-the-fly' web site technology for the Bellevue and Everett Chambers of Commerce, to enhance their on-line marketing strategies. QualData is using the "Remote Control Administrative System" (RCAS), which the company has pioneered, to make this possible. The RCAS technology allows the client to dip into its database to instantly change and update web pages with new information. Piranha Productions, Inc. finished work on their first QuickTime VR movie in May. The virtual reality product allows users to control 3-D images of objects on their personal computers. QuickTime VR stitches the images together so computer users can navigate their way around a space, wander from room to room, zoom in or out or pick up and rotate and object - all through their personal computer.

Promus Hotels announced that eight of its 121 Embassy Suites won Promus' Rose Award. The Embassy Suites Hotel at Sea-Tac was among the eight honored. The Rose Award recognizes excellence in quality and guest satisfaction.
Washington Transit Advertising won a five-year contract renewal with Pierce Transit. WTA has represented Pierce Transit for 35 years in the sale of advertising on its buses. The contract was awarded through a unanimous vote by the Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners.
Odyssey, The Maritime Discovery Center, currently under construction at the new Bell Street Pier, has received a $100,000 donation from American Seafoods Company and a $75,000 donation from Sunmar Shipping, Inc. Odyssey is a private non-profit corporation. Funding for Odyssey's $12.6 million capital campaign comes from a mix of public and private sources.
Dan Hanken has joined Subert-Gregory as an intern. Subert-Gregory is a full-service advertising, public relations and marketing firm located on Mercer Island.
Cloud Communications, Inc., a Seattle advertising, public relations and marketing firm, has hired Karen Olsonas an account executive. Cloud Communications represents national and international clients in the fields of high-tech, healthcare, consumer products, hospitality, professional services and commercial real estate.
Scott Brisco has joined Worthington Insurance in Bothell as an account specialist. He will focus on business development for the company. Kathy Arnold has been promoted to account executive/producer at Worthington. Arnold will continue with her current duties of managing sales coordination.
Boston Market will be opening its 23rd Washington store on July 1 in Auburn. The new store will be located at 1202 Auburn Way North.
Birney and Marie Dempsey have opened a new restaurant, Andaluca, at 409 Olive Way in downtown Seattle. The restaurant will feature fresh produce combined with recipes of the Mediterranean coast. Don Curtiss is executive chef. Curtiss has worked with food consultant Diana Isaiou and chef Kathy Casey in developing the menu for Andaluca.
