Foster Pepper & Shefelman

David Gabrieli and Jackie Wickersham have joined the Seattle law firm of Foster Pepper & Shefelman as associates. Gabrieli's practice will focus on intellectual property, licensing and antitrust law. Wickersham's practice will emphasize municipal and public finance.

1996 STC Competition

The Puget Sound Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) is holding the 22nd annual publications, art and online competition. The 1996 STC Competition will accept entries from any profession or industry that produces print, art, or online material to sell, explain, or maintain a technical product, service, or process. Hogue Cellars

The Hogue Cellars winery and seven Pacific Northwest celebrity chefs will join forces to participate in the Second Annual Hogue After the Holidays, a seven course food and wine extravaganza benefiting Seattle's Chicken Soup Brigade. The event will take place January 19 at The Georgian, located at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel. Gary and Mike Hogue of The Hogue Cellars will host the event, and the participating chefs will include Tom Douglas and Chris Hunter, Etta's Seafood; Christine Keff, Flying Fish; J. Tim Kelley, The Painted Table; Tamara Murphy, Campagne; Walter Pisano, Tulio Ristorante; Astolfo Rueda, Virazon; and Kerry Sear, The Georgian. Tickets are $150 per person. Cloud Communications

Cloud Communications, a Seattle marketing and public relations firm, has formed an alliance with the Italian firm Communication By Objectives (CBO). The alliance is to help facilitate the release of Optx 20/20 in Italy. Optx 20/20 are removable reading lenses for sunglasses manufactured by Neoptx of Redmond.

Better Business Bureau

The Better Business Bureau of Western Washington (BBB) was recently honored with the Bureau's most prestigious award, the Marshall A. Mott Memorial Award for excellence. The award is presented each year at the National Assembly of Better Business Bureaus to the BBB with the best overall communications programs targeted to the public, BBB members and other consumer groups and agencies. The Western Washington BBB is located in SeaTac.

Ex Officio Inc.

Ex Officio Inc., a Seattle-based manufacturer of adventure travel clothing, has been recognized as one of America's fastest-growing private companies. The company was ranked 169 on the annual Inc. 500, 45 spots higher from their 1995 position.

Trillium hires new CFO

Robert G. Wolfe has just accepted the position of chief financial officer with the Trillium Corporation. He joins Chairman David Syre, President Steve Brinn and Chief Executive Officer Erik Anderson on the Executive Committee. Wolfe brings a wide variety of top level international banking experience, most recently as executive director and vice president with Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong, London, Tokyo and New York. At those financial centers he was responsible for overseeing investment banking decisions for major European, Asian, and North American financial institutions. He was also president and CEO of Capital Savings Bank in Olympia, and vice president of Merrill Lynch in New York.

Bay Colony, a finalist for builders award

Bay Colony, a 78 home condominium community in Dupont, received two gold and six silver awards as a finalist in the prestigious MAME awards, including best townhome or duplex, community of the year, and best marketing. Sponsored by the Master Builder's Association of King and Snohomish Counties, the award recognized the quality finish work and spacious designs of the homes at Bay Colony, as well as the project's success in appealing to all markets of home buyers, who want care-free living without sacrificing style and amentities. Less than one year after opening, almost 60% of homs have been sold and occupied in the community built and developed by Carino Homes of Univeristy Place. Coaching concept available for real estate agents A new system, Cross Coaching, by local realtor Carla Cross, has just garnered endorsement by the Managers' Council (CRB), National Association of Realtors, as best of its kind. The program consists of a complete system oriented handbook, and three audio tapes, explaining the program. The concept of coaching has entered the real estate field to better train agents in customer satisfaction and successful sales. Cross created this program to fill the void between formal, traditional training programs and the 'real world'. Free five hour homebuyer education seminars

The Washington State Housing Finance Commission is offering free five hour homebuyer education seminars, which provide training to all interested persons about the process of purchasing a home, and are taught by certified instructors. The seminars provide information for all prospective homebuyers and include tips on selecting the right loan product, household budgeting, home maintenance, types of assistance programs available to first-time homebuyers, default prevention, and general lending practices. The seminars are conducted in cooperation with lenders throughout the state who participate in Commission programs. Free workbooks and materials are provided through an agreement with local private mortgage insurance companies. Ross Chambers has joined Wallace Properties, Inc. as a broker specializing in corporate office leasing and investing sales. He was formerly Manager of Major Investor Development for the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and has extensive background in real estate marketing and leasing.

Windermere

Lori Davis has joined the Bellevue-South office. Davis has nine years experience in real estate. Debbie Smith, new to real estate, has joined the Oak Tree office. Kathrin Faulkner, also new to real estate, joins the Windermere-Wall Street office.

Continental Savings Bank

Continental Savings Bank announced that John Abplanalp has joined the company to manage its new Performance Lending Center, which will be responsible for introducing new mortgage loan products and handling refinancing of home loans. In addition, Tom Allison has joined the company as a home loan consultant in the new center. Abplanalp has 21 years of banking experience and most recently served as manager of Washington Federal Savings' Wedgewood branch. Allison most recently served in retail management. Prior to that, he served as a loan officer at First Interstate. His background also includies positions as an assistant branch manager at University Savings Bank and branch manager for Seafirst Bank.

Bernhardt honored

Bob Bernhardt, of Coldwell Banker Whitfield-Bernhardt, Inc. Realtors, Vancouver, WA, has been named amoung the top "Mega Brokers of the Northwest" by Unique Homes, the National Magazine of Luxury Real Estate. As a recipient of this honor, he will be featured with 9 others in the Oct/Nov issue of Unique Homes.

Seattle Mortgage Company

Cec Gogal has joined Seattle Mortgage Company, Alderwood Branch as a mortgage banker. Gogal, formerly with Northwest/Directors Mortgage, has five years experience in mortgage lending.

Ultima Systems

Ultima Systems, a travel club based in Bothell, has named Paul Evanson as chief operations officer. Evanson will be responsible for day-to-day operations at the corporate offices, managing member relations, training, MIS, human resources, accounting and the publications department.

Washington State Medical Association

Jennifer Lawrence has been named the director of communications and membership for the Washington State Medical Association, which represents more than 8,000 physicians throughout the state.

Association of Bar Executives

Dennis Harwick of Seattle, executive director and CEO of the Washington State Bar Association, has been named president of the National Association of Bar Executives, a professional association comprised of Bar Association executives from across the country. Harwick will serve as a national spokesperson on issues affecting the profession and will work at the national level with the American Bar Association and other related legal organizations across the country.

FAA

Lawrence (Larry) Andriesen will replace Frederick Isaac as regional administrator for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Isaac will retire in January 1997. As regional administrator, Andriesen will represent the FAA Administrator in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. Andriesen has been the FAA deputy regional administrator of the Northwest Region since May 1989.

ITM Corp.

Seattle-based ITM Corporation, which recently introduced a new Internet-based service linking freight forwarders and other transportation service providers directly to shippers via desktop PC, has been selected as a partner in the "Dream Team" of transportation and logistics assembled by the Microsoft Corporation. The alliance, officially called the Value Chain Initiative (VCI), will offer integrated solutions using personal computers and the Internet to redefine transportation logistics for shippers. The new software system will allow shippers the ability to click and ship important air cargo via the Internet. The Click 'n Ship system enables customers to quickly request pick-ups and track shipments. It also lets users print forms incorporating current shipping information, including international documentation from their PC. ITM is one of 28 companies that has been assembled by Microsoft for its new VCI.
