Classic King-FM and the Salvation Army are holding its annual toy drive to help children in poverty. The public is asked to help by dropping off new, unwrapped toys at King Broadcasting or Safeway stores in Overlake, Crown Hill, North City, Upper Queen Anne, Rose Hill, University Village and West Seattle, before Christmas. The toys will be taken to Salvation Army Toy 'n' Joy shops, where underprivileged parents may choose a present that is suited for their child.
The law office of Vanderberg Johnson & Gandara will be relocating its office on December 16. Their new location will be located in One Union Square at 600 University St., Suite 2424, Seattle.
ARIS Corporation, an information systems consulting, training and software development company headquartered in Seattle, has opened a new regional consulting office in the Tampa Bay, Florida region. Richard Jagisch will act as the regional manager in the new office. This is the fifth expansion in seven months for ARIS, which was recently listed as the 241st fastest growing company in America on the "Inc. 500" list.

The Seattle-King County Association of Realtors announced that Walter B. Williams, chairman of Continental, Inc., will be honored as the 59th First Citizen. Fred Weiss, chairman of the 1997 First Citizen program, cited Williams' years of service and leadership to philanthropic, civic and professional groups, along with significant contributions to local business and real estate communities, as factors in his selection. Williams, 75, was president of Continental from 1963 until 1990 when he became chairman. Continental Inc., parent company of Continental Savings Bank and Continental Mortgage Company, observed its own 75th anniversary this year. Under Williams' leadership, Continental has grown to include over $700 million in assets.
Lisa S. Verner, owner of Lisa Verner Strategic Development Services, has been elected director of communications for the National Network of Commercial Real Estate Women (NNCREW). Verner will be responsible for a combination of internal communications and marketing projects, including the quarterly newsletter NNCREW CoNNection. She will also be involved in promotion of the activities and national events of NNCREW and its 32 member organizations. Verner is a real estate development consultant with over 17 years experience in the real estate industry. She focuses on commercial and industrial entitlements, public process, government affairs and project management. She is immediate past president of CREWNorthwest in Seattle.
Constance J. Wilde, a retail properties specialist with Grubb & Ellis Co., has been awarded the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation by the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. CCIMs are recognized as experts in the disciplines of commercial and investment real estate. Wilde has 18 years of commercial real estate experience.
John L. Scott announced the following as new sales associates: Lisa Hinton, Midge Krieger, Shahla Tipton, and Ianita Velkov have joined the Bellevue East office. Joining the Bellevue Place office is Anne Braddock. Hun-fa Kuo and Marva Newhall have joined the Belleuve-South. Marilyn Hagberg and Michael O'Neill have joined the Des Moines office. Joining the Gig Harbor office is Stephen Thompson. Tom Bolger and Cornell Petrisor have joined the Issaquah-Eastside office. Jeff O'Day and Vicki Ragan have joined the Kirkland office. Rosemary Garnett and Edward Krigsman have joined the Lakeside office and Maria Amoranto has joined the Laurelhurst office.

Three new staff members have been hired at Donald Carlson and Associates Architects. Russ Brown, a graduate of the University of Oregon, has worked with several firms in Denver, including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. His commercial projects while there include The Mellon Center and the Georgio Hotel in Denver and hospitality projects in St. Louis and Telluride, Col. He joins Carlson as project manager for Overlake School's Campus Center renovation and portable classrooms coordination, and the Lakeside School's renovations for the McAllister Fine Arts Building and the Refectory Campus Center. Lana Lisitsa, a graduate of the School of Architecture of Odessa, Ukraine, worked for the Mulvanny Partnership prior to joining Carlson. She is now project manager for the Sanislo Public Elementary School renovation and has worked on the Bainbridge Island Master Plan & Residential Development. She manages the firm's CAD system. Mark Withrow, who holds degrees in fine arts and in architecture from Louisiana State University, comes to Carlson from the Virgin Islands, where he was a principal in his own firm.
Curtis C. Vanderzanden has been named as associate at the Portland office of KPFF Consulting Engineers. He joined the firm in 1986 as drafting manager in the civil engineering group. His project experience includes site work for KPTV studios, the Oregon Arena and Portland City Hall.
Sian Ye has joined CNA Architecture as designer. His first assignments include projects for Group Health Cooperative and Federal Express. Previous work with JPC of Redmond and other architectural firms in Washington and Alabama focused in commercial, retail and hospitality design.
Three engineers have joined the infrastructure division of Harding Lawson Associates (HLA). John Lee has joined the municipal group. He has 30 years experience in municipal engineering including surface water management, water and sewer system design and road design. Dennis Neuzil has joined the transportation group with over 30 years' experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, public transportation and feasibility studies. Susan Chu has also joined the transportation group. Her 10 years of experience include the design of roadways, airports and other civil engineering projects.
Kelly Anderson has developed a professional specialty in data networking systems, and his projects include information management systems for Nordstrom and technology upgrades for the Lake Washington, North Shore, Seattle, Richland and Olympia School Districts. Steve Van Vleet has 12 years of experience in electrical engineering, and his current projects at HEI include project management for Nordstrom. John Hunt is both mechanical and electrical engineer. His projects for HEI have included libraries in Pierce County, a flight simulator at McChord Air Force Base and educational facilities. John Kritsis has 10 years of electrical engineering experience including interior system design and exterior distribution and control systems. Kenneth R. Larsen has 11 years of electrical engineering experience which includes educational, auditorium, manufacturing and retail design. Joseph Schley has been with the firm for 21 years as a mechanical engineer. He specializes in energy conservation reports, life cycle cost analysis and system commissioning. Michael Logan has managed electrical engineering on over 60 Safeway stores and numerous Cinnabon, Starbucks and Seattle's Best Coffee outlet stores.
Fletcher Farr Ayotte (FFA) has hired seven new professional staff members. Sally Valentine, an architect from Missouri, is part of a team working on the Village at Lovejoy Fountain housing project. Marc Seguela, a graduate of the University of oregon, is also working on the Village at Lovejoy Fountain. Eric Bressman, and architect from California, is project manager for historic building upgrades at Fort Lewis and the Oregon Department of Transportation's Sylvan Compound. Nicole Grayson is an interior designer with degrees from the University of Oregon and the New York School of Interior Design. She is at work on a project for Capital Consultants.. Dana Richardson has a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture and master's degrees in both urban planning and architecture. He is part of a team working on the Oregon City Regional Framework Plan. Architect Jeff Welch is a project manager for the Valley Plaza renovation and the Public Employees Retirement System headquarters building. Trevor Nelson has a bachelor's degree from Montana State University-Bozeman and is currently working as an intern at FFA.
Judy Gowdy has been named president of the American Society of Interior Designers Washington State Chapter for 1996-1997. She is the owner of J.C. Gowdy Interiors in Bellevue. She has served on the ASID Board of Directors from 1991 to the present, and has won numerous awards for design.
Steven G. Price has been promoted to designer/project manager at Weber + Thompson Architects. He will oversee projects in financial facilities, and in residential and commercial architecture.
The Northwest Mining Association (NWMA) has named Laura Skaer as its new executive director. Skaer previously served as an executive in the mining industry in Reno, Nevada. The NWMA is a non-profit association organized to represent and inform members on legislative and regulatory issues, important meetings and other opportunities in the mining industry.
John O'Donnell an attorney at the firm of Ogden Murphy Wallace, P.L.L.C. has been named chairperson of the business department. O'Donnell's practice incorporates all aspects of tax work from planning tax-saving alternatives and completing transactions to defending taxpayer positions in proceedings before tax administrative bodies and in courts of law. Ogden Murphy Wallace has offices in Seattle and Wenatchee.

Edith Loyer Nelson has been named as a member of the board of trustees at Shoreline Community College. Nelson is a program manager with the Department of Social and Health Services where she coordinates a long-term study of children and their families. She also sits on the executive board of the Washington Federation of State Employees, the board of directors for the Center for Human Services, and the Duwamish Indian Tribe Tribal Council.
Redmond based Metawave Communications Corporation, providers of management solutions for wireless service providers, has hired Jim McLernon as director of field services. He will help head up the company's worldwide field services group, overseeing the installation, service and repair of Metawave's multibeam antenna systems.
Two Seattle agencies, Rourke Insurance Agency and Bell & Company, will merge their offices effective January 1. The new firm will be known as Bell & Rourke Insurance Agency. Rourke Insurance has served as the general agent for the Aetna Casualty Company and has provided a range of insurance services for its personal and business customers. Bell & Company has served as a general agent for a variety of specialty lines of insurance. The company also provides individually tailored property and casualty insurance programs for families and business enterprises. The merger is being implemented as part of Fred Bell's planning for his retirement in the future. The new firm will be located at 425 Pontius Street North. Olympia city prosecutor Lee Creighton has been appointed as director of the state's newly-created Office of Public Defense. The new agency has been created to administer criminal appellate indigent defense services, which was formerly supervised by the Washington Supreme Court. An 11-member advisory committee, comprised of retired judges, private citizens and state legislators, will govern and supervise the new agency.
