Zimmer Gunsul Frasca partnership (ZGF) has promoted Sergei Bischak, Mahlon Clements, Brad Hinthorne, David MacLean, Marnie Nelson, Robin Randall and Sandy Tobkin to the position of associate. Bischak, a graduate of Rice University in Houston, joined the firm in 1991 and has played primary roles in projects such as Microsoft's Redmond West Campus and Pebble Beach project, the Kirkland and Bothell Libraries for King Country Library Systems; Science Facility Two-Biology for Western Washington University, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Airway Heights Corrections Center near Spokane. Clements has focused on urban design since joining the firm in 1991, and has worked on the Metro High Capacity Transit Alternatives Analysis, the Chelan-Douglas Intermodal Transportation Center in Wenatchee, the Bellevue Pedestrian corridor and the master plan for the Capitol of the State of Washington. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Brad Hinthorne has been involved in a number of master planning, programming, and design efforts at various medical and educational facilities, including the Tacoma Medical Center for Group Health, the Providence St. Vincent obstetrics remodel and expansion in Portland, and the Stevens Memorial Hospital addition and renovation. MacLean is project architect and technical designer with ZGF, and is currently project architect for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Phase II. Since joining the firm in 1992, he has also worked on the Olympia Medical Center for Group Health and the Mary Baker Russell Music Center for Pacific Lutheran University. Nelson, who has been with the firm for over 10 years, is ZGF's office manager in Seattle. Randall is a project architect who joined the firm in 1991. Since then, her project experience includes the renovation of the University Village shopping center, the International District Village Square, the Bothell Library for King County, and the Mallory parking structure in Portland. She is a graduate of Ball State University. Tobkin serves as marketing coordinator for ZGF's Seattle office. For the last 14 years she has been responsible for supporting all business development and public relations activities.
Tom Drugan has joined Otak as a planner and urban designer. Previously with Harvard and Associates, he has 10 years of professional experience in landscape architecture, planning, architecture and urban design. Drugan is currently working on a planned unit development in Bothell.
John W. Lee has joined the design and CAD production department of Weber + Thompson. He has several years of experience in financial facilities, retail and residential projects.
J. Douglas Macy of Walker & Macy and Carol Mayer-Reed of Mayer/Reed in Portland have been inducted as Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Macy, a founding partner in Walker & Macy, was recognized for his work on Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Vietnam Veterans of Region Memorial and the revitalization of the South and North Park Blocks. Mayer-Reed is known for multi-disciplinary teams and for her design work on the Portland Place Memorial, the Museum at Warm Springs, the Tropical Africa Exhibit and the Hewlett-Packard Vancouver executive courtyard.
The Seattle strategic marketing firm of MWW/Savitt hired John Smith as senior art director in its creative services department. Smith will develop visual concepts and design elements for such clients as The Ackerley Group, Bally Total Fitness, Delta Airlines and Trillium Corporation.
Premier America, a Redmond-based video duplicating company, has hired Sage "Caddy" Swanson as marketing manager. He will be responsible for account management, sales and marketing development in the Northwest and Hawaii for Premiere America and its subsidiary Optical Data Resources.
Joshua Lipsky has joined the Seattle law firm of Marten & Brown LLP as an associate. Lipsky will advise clients on hazardous and solid waste issues, air permitting, land use review and environmental insurance coverage.
Bastyr University, the only regionally accredited multi-disciplinary natural medicine university in the country, has appointed Darrell Williams as academic vice president. Three new department chairs have also recently joined the Bastyr faculty: Mark Kestin, chair of the Nutrition Department; Lise Alschuler, chair of the Botanical Medicine Department; and William Roedel, chair of the Department of Counseling and Health Psychology. Bastyr University has also announced the founding of Bastyr University Press, a book publishing imprint specializing in material on alternative and complementary medicine. Bastyr University Press will publish books for professional, scholarly and academic audiences, as well as for the general public. The first titles will be published and distributed this fall.
Shanghai, Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia will be the destinations of a Western Washington University study tour to be conducted in June and July, which will include visits to manufacturing companies, universities, government offices and cultural sites. There will be an information meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Parks Hall 146 for those interested in participating. The Bellingham/Whatcom County Convention & Visitors Bureau's 1996 annual report shows that the number of visitors reached 186,410 -- a 12.7 percent increase over 1995. The number of visitor centers grew by one when the Bureau took over management of the Blaine VIC in January. Nineteen conventions were booked that will bring an estimated $2.4 million into Whatcom County during the next few years. CVB Executive Director John Cooper will present the 1997 marketing plan during a public meeting at 3 p.m. on Jan. 29 a the Best Western Lakeway Inn in Bellingham.
Donna Gordon Blankinship has been named editor of The Jewish Transcript. Blankinship is a freelance writer and college instructor who has been writing for The Transcript for about five years. The Transcript, Washington's only Jewish newspaper, is a non-profit corporation owned by the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.
Zachary Lark joins wa.net (Washington Internet Services) as vice president of sales and marketing to help meet the demand for Internet connections. Lark will service residential accounts, business accounts and Internet resellers.
Greenwood Heating & Air Conditioning recently announced its plans to open a branch office in the Tacoma area. The new branch will be managed by Michele King, who currently manages Greenwood Heating's Kirkland store. The Tacoma office is scheduled to open Feb. 1.
The Associated General Contractors of America has named two association executives to lead the organization. Stephen E. Sandherr has been named executive vice president and David R. Lukens chief operating officer. Sandherr will maintain relations with AGC's 100 chapters nationwide, coordinate legislative activities and increase involvement with business coalitions. Lukens will direct daily activities of AGC staff in Washington, D.C.

The American Concrete Pavement Association has named Donald Beuerlein chairman and Bill Davenport director of marketing. The organization also recently presented its awards for excellence in concrete pavement. Winners were: Interstate Highway Construction Inc. of Englewood, Colo.; Vee-Jay Cement Contracting Co. Inc. of St. Louis; Highway Services Inc. of Rogers, Minn.; McCarthy Improvement Co. of Davenport, Iowa; Cherry Hill Construction Inc. of Jessup, Md.; Wittwer Paving Inc. of Wichita, Kan.; and Fred Carlson Co. Inc. of Decorah, Iowa.
FMI Corp. has made two promotions at its Denver office. Ron Magnus has been promoted to manager of Corporate Planning & Evaluation Group West and Ben Brahinsky to director. Magnus will be responsible for corporate planning, strategic planning, leadership development, compensation planning and other services. Brahinsky specializes in business continuity, mergers and acquisitions, and management succession planning.
