Wyatt named CEO at NBBJ

Scott W. Wyatt FAIA has been named CEO in charge of operations of the NBBJ's west coast offices, which are located in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Wyatt has led the corporate design studio since he joined NBBJ in 1991. Neil Anderson has been appointed CEO in charge of east coast office operations. NBBJ's east coast operations are located in Columbus, New York and Raleigh, N.C. James O. Jonassen FAIA has been designated managing partner for the firm and will focus on NBBJ's national and international practice. Friedrich K. M. Bohm FAIA has been appointed chairman in charge of the firm's strategic direction. Seattle-based NBBJ is the second largest architectural firm in the United States and the fifth largest in the world, with specialties in health care, research, planning, education, justice, sports, hospitality and retail.

SWMB

Paul S. Diedrich has joined Skilling Ward Magnusson Barkshire Inc. structural and civil engineers. Diedrich specializes in projects requiring a high degree of architectural collaboration, and is currently at work on the Kangbuk Samsung Hospital in Seoul, Korea. Previous projects include the Allen Library Addition at the University of Washington and the Weyerhaeuser Aquatics Center. Adam R. Koczarski has recently joined the firm as a project engineer, and will be involved in both project design and application of emerging computer technologies.

HDR

Roger Johnson has been promoted to senior vice president at HDR Engineering, and Santoch Kuruvilla and Wayne Short have been named vice presidents. Johnson is the transportation section manager for HDR's Northwest offices. He has led numerous high profile highway corridor and interchange projects in Washington and Idaho during his 30 years in practice. Kuruvilla is the bridge program manager for HDR's Northwest offices, now providing on-call services for the Washington and Oregon departments of transportation. Short is HDR's Northwest rail program manager, providing rail design services involving relocations, sidings, industry spurs and major yard rehabilitation.

AGI

Mackey Smith has been named principal-in-charge of the Bellevue office of AGI. With over 20 years of experience in engineering geology and hydrogeology, has been with AGI since 1983. Keith Ward has been hired as an engineer-in-training at AGI with a master's degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Washington.

Abacus

Richard Ward recently joined Abacus Engineered Systems Inc. as a mechanical principal. Recent engineering clients include Harborview Medical Center and Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. At Abacus, he will provide engineering and performance contracting services in health care and commercial markets. Shannon English has been promoted to electrical principal at Abacus. He is currently working on Department of Defense projects in California, North Dakota, Idaho and throughout the Pacific Northwest as well as in Okinawa, Japan.

DEA

Brant A. Schweikl has joined David Evans & Associates, Inc. (DEA) as project manager, responsible for design of storm and surface water facilities, road and sanitary systems and general commercial and residential development projects. Marc A. Pudists has been promoted to project manager following receipt of his professional engineering license. He has experience in the design of residential subdivisions, commercial sites, roadways and stormwater facilities. John A. Watson has joined DEA as a designer CAD technician.

Parametrix

Clay Antieau has joined Parametrix, Inc. He specializes in the cultivation, identification and ecology of Northwest native plants as well as wetland biology and habitat restoration. Antieau most recently served as regional field agent for water quality and horticulture with the Washington State University Cooperative Extension. In addition to his work with Parametrix, Antieau instructs week-long courses in the field identification of sedges and rushes for natural resource agency staff. Tom Atkins has joined Parametrix to address landscape architecture and planning opportunities for the environmental consulting firm. He is recognized for his work on the Mercer Slough and Newcastle Beach parks in Bellevue, the Sleeping Lady Retreat in Leavenworth and the San Diego Zoo. He serves as an ecotourism adviser to officials in Wuhan, China.

Triad

Don Hill has joined Triad Associates as a senior project engineer with emphasis on hydrological analysis. He is currently working on Intracorp's 36-acre Seaway commercial development in Everett. Joanne Fredrick has rejoined Triad after two years away from the firm. She is working as an engineering drafter and technician on Cooper Village, a commercial development in Olympia, and Camden Park, a 53-lot residential development in King County.

Berger/ABAM

Berger/ABAM has added Aaron Savage, a graphic designer, and Debbie Simmons, a word processing operator, to the staff.

Garvey, Schubert & Barer

The Seattle law firm of Garvery, Schubert & Barer has appointed Timothy Burkart, Roger Hillman, Anne Preston and William Severson as principals.

MWW/Savitt

MWW/Savitt, a Seattle-based public relations firm, has hired Deborah Burzynski and Melissa Heaton as assistant account executives.

Lane Powell

Reed Schifferman, a partner in the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky, has been elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates.

REI

Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) is opening its first Michigan store in Northville on Friday. The new 32,500-square-foot store, located in Northville Centre, will carry REI brand and national brand equipment, apparel and footwear for climbing, camping, cycling, paddling and wintersports. REI selected Northville to serve the Co-op's 10,000 members in Michigan.

Stevenson Slavin

Stevenson Slavin Advertising & Public Relations, Seattle, has hired Patrick Walker as account executive and Marni Hinthorne as bookkeeper/office manager.

One Sport

One Sport, Inc. of Seattle will contribute more than 1,300 pairs of rugged outdoor footwear to Northwest Medical Team's (NWMTI) next shipment of humanitarian aid to a hospital and orphanage in the City of Saransk in the newly formed Republic of Mardovia (formerly part of the Soviet Union) about 600 miles southeast of Moscow. One Sport, Inc. is a Seattle-based designer, manufacturer and distributor of hiking boots, trail-running shoes and other outdoor footwear.

Sterling Savings

Sterling Savings Association has promoted the following employees to assistant vice president; Terry Johnson, Northgate Branch manager; Kris Kade, Fircrest Branch manager; and Laurel Reifel, loan officer in Sterling's Bellevue Business Banking office.

The Freeland Group

The Freeland Group (TFG), a management consulting firm serving small to mid-size companies in the Pacific Northwest, has officially opened for business. Following a staff recruitment and training program, the Bellevue-based firm is now staffed by approximately 50 principals and associates representing a broad range of industry experience. Professional experience offered by the firm includes a range of business issues including cost control, strategic planning, sales and marketing, human resources, financial analysis, reorganization and restructuring, training and communications.

Spokane Area EDC

The Spokane Area Economic Development Council has launched a website. The EDC's website contains important business and relocation information. The Spokane Area EDC is a private, non-profit organization working to promote quality growth and development of the region's economy.

Geiser Grand Hotel

The Geiser Grand Hotel, an historic landmark located in Baker City, Ore., has hired Hank Hickox as the general manager of the property. The hotel, once the finest between Salt Lake City and Seattle, is currently under restoration. Hickox will also become a partner and president of Pacific Northwest Trading, the firm contracted to manage the Geiser. Based in Baker City, Pacific Northwest Trading will consult with and manage other hospitality properties throughout the region.
