Chuck Whittlesey has joined Hart Crowser, Inc., as principal in charge of the firm's industrial services group. Whittlesey previously served for five years as regional director of environmental services for Morrison Knudsen and for 25 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he headed the Corps' nuclear and chemical operations branch. At Hart Crowser, Whittlesey will be responsible to the private industrial market, helping clients to identify and implement new approaches to the regulatory, environmental and practical challenges of industrial development. Howard L. Cumberland has joined the Portland office of Hart Crowser, Inc. as a senior project manager for sediment quality assessments and agency permitting for waterfront development. He also specializes in the dredging and disposal of contaminated sediments. Cumberland has pursued beneficial reuse of dredged material for such purposes as beach nourishment of fill in new construction.
Sandy Glover has joined Inca Engineers, Inc. of Bellevue as a project engineer for the firm's transportation department, where she will design roadways, park-and-rides and HOV facilities. Glover spent six years with the Washington State Department of Transportation as a transportation engineer. Michael Montgomery has joined the firm as a program manager for Inca's newly formed facilities management department. He will assume responsibilities for disaster response and recovery planning projects. Montgomery has been a national consultant and trainer in disaster recovery planning and a professional speaker.
Tim Ritchie has joined the Kirkland office of Parametrix as senior marketing coordinator. He came from Philip Services Corp., where he worked in business and project development for exempt waste services. He was responsible for the region's first household hazardous waste collection facility design/build/operate program in Lewis County.
Brian Unsderfer has been promoted to principal at AKB Engineers, Inc., He has recently served as project manager for AKB's civil and structural design work on several Washington Mutual Banks, the Green Hill Facility in Chehalis, and the Legal Offenders Unit in Lakewood.
Marcie Hanna, an architect with Baylis Brand Wagner Architects, has been appointed to the citizen's advisory board of A Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH), which promotes affordable housing with a focus on the Eastside. She is currently project manager for the design of a 58-unit condominium project in Kirkland.
Doug Huang has joined Cary Kopczynski & Company as a senior engineer, and is currently working on the Westlake Tower, a 30-story multi-family project in downtown Seattle. Emery Ojala has joined the firm as a design engineer, and is at work on a Marriott Hotel in Cincinnati.
William L. Martin has joined W&H Pacific's Bellevue office as a designer for land development and major drainage projects. He was previously a project engineer for Huibregtse, Louman Associates, Inc. in Yakima.
Thom Walker has joined JPC Inc. as a senior project manager. He brings over 17 years of architectural experience to the firm including the design of medical and commercial office space. For 11 years Walker has served as managing principal and owner of his own firm, and his recent JPC clients include Humongous Entertainment and Microsoft Troon. Paula Vollmer was recently promoted to full-time manager of marketing services and special projects at JPC. Her assistance has contributed to several recent contract awards, including Microsoft building upgrades, Humongous Entertainment offices, and Meydenbauer Convention Center Office upgrades. Others recently hired include: Soonjung Vellek, interior designer; John Hibbard, intern architect; Denise Lierman, interior designer; Susan Kaufman, administrative assistant; Lisa Pirie, interior designer; Keith Simanton, furniture manager; and Sarah Douglas, interior designer.
Thomas J. Arminski has joined Harding Lawson Associates' (HLA) Anchorage office as principal environmental specialist and will be the leader for all environmental permitting and planning projects. Arminski has more than 20 years of professional regulatory experience in Alaska. Prior to joining HLA he served as an environmental specialist with Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, and has also served as a habitat biologist.
Sybrina Cuddy has joined GGLO as interior designer. She was previously an interior designer for TRA Architecture. She is now working on Molbak's new store at the University Village and Reid Middleton. Candace Christensen has joined GGLO as staff architect. She has worked for other firms in Oregon and Paris, France. She is currently working on a high density multi-family project for Trammell Crow Residential. Basil Darwish has joined the firm as project architect after spending three years at CJA in Bellevue. He is working on one of Trammell Crow Residential's multi-family housing projects. Jennifer Thuma has joined the firm as an interior designer after spending two years at JPC. At GGLO, she was a part of the team which designed Fast Lady Sports in the Redmond Town Center. She is currently working on Molbak's new store at the University Village. Pamela Trevithick has joined GGLO as staff architect. She was previously a senior project assistant at Robert A.M. Stern in New York City. She is working on market rate housing for Trammell Crow Residential. Tara Siegel has joined the firm as a staff architect. Her experience comes from McCamant & Durrett in Berkeley, where she worked on co-housing and childcare facilities. Prior to joining the architecture profession, she was a preschool teacher. Andy Kosusko has joined GGLO as project architect. He is originally from New Jersey and received a his master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He is working on two Downtown Seattle mixed-use projects. Erika Ottmar has joined the GGLO accounting team as accounting assistant. She previously worked for an international sporting goods manufacturer in Bellingham. Sandra Harui has joined the firm as marketing coordinator after spending five years in real estate development and property management. She will work with Amber Ferrese, who rejoins the firm as marketing director after taking a year off, and Sue Tilson, marketing assistant.
Greg Maffei, chief financial officer of Microsoft, has been named to the Seattle Public Library Board of Trustees. Maffei is in charge of Microsoft's worldwide financial activities and oversees its investment portfolio. He was appointed by Seattle Mayor Paul Schell to a five-year term, replacing Lazelle Johnson. The board governs the Central Library, 22 branches, Mobile Services and the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library.
The Washington State Chiropractic Association, a statewide association that represents the chiropractic profession in Washington, recently honored seven chiropractors for outstanding service. Dr. Ken Shotwell, a founding member and recent president of the association, was named Chiropractor of the Year. Dr. Fred Bomonti and Dr. Carson Odegard were co-recipients of the Volunteer of the Year award. Dr. Don Robinson won the Outstanding Service Award. Dr. David Middendorf won the Freedom Award for political action. Dr. Jeff Kantola and Dr. John Huber won Distinguished Service Awards.
The Herald recently announced the creation of a new publication, The Herald Business Journal. The Journal will cover business in Snohomish County, including economic development, retail, technology, real estate, education and tourism. Larry Hanson, publisher of The Herald, will also publish the Journal.
Dick Malin is retiring after nearly 25 years at the Port of Olympia, having spent most of that time as director of engineering and planning. Andrea Fontenot, senior land use planner, has been appointed acting director of engineering and planning for the next six months.
