Betts, Patterson & Mines

Stephen L. Day, chair of the transportation and logistics practice group at Seattle's Betts, Patterson & Mines, was named president-elect of the Association for Transportation Law, Logistics and Policy.

Mackie Designs Inc.

Mackie Designs Inc. of Woodinville has recently hired Jeff Mac to fill the newly created position of eastern regional sales manager. Mac recently worked for Yamaha Digital Products, providing clinics and training. Bobb Haskitt was recently hired to fill the newly created position of product manager recording products. Haskitt recently worked for Digidesign, manufacturer of Pro Tools, hard disk recording platforms.

HDR

John J. Terpstra has been promoted to vice president by HDR Engineering, Inc. As HDR's national director of ports, Terpstra oversees the company's planning and design activities for the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf Coast ports. Terpstra is located in the company's Bellevue office. His experience includes maritime and intermodal transportation. Prior to joining HDR in 1997, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Tacoma. HDR employs more than 1,900 engineers, architects, scientists, planners and other support staff in more than 40 offices worldwide. New senior vice presidents include Arvid L. Thomsen of Omaha, Dorri Giles Raposa of Boston, and Herbert W. Grubb of Austin. In addition to Terpstra, the company has also promoted Jeff L. Curren of Dallas, John Woelfl of Omaha, William F. Tornrose of Chicago, Larry D. Low of Tampa, Mark J. Hammer, Jr. of Omaha and Paul A. Bowdoin of Tampa to vice presidents.

DEA

Brian K. Callagan has joined David Evans and Associates, Inc. as a project manager responsible for road and utility systems, commercial developments and residential projects. His experience ranges from small civil and structural design to broad-based military base planning. He is currently developing construction plans for the Willow's Run Golf Course in Redmond and the design of two office buildings in Federal Way. John N. Smith has joined the firm as a civil engineering designer. He is currently working on the Western Washington University South Campus infrastructure pre-design study and serves as a project designer for on-call engineering services provided to the City of Edgewood on an "as needed" basis. Robert R. Burton has been promoted to survey manager. He joined the firm in 1989, and last year he managed survey services for the mapping of 12 miles of HOV lanes on Interstate 5 in north Pierce County.

C3MG

Rick Denhart has joined the Portland office of C3MG Management Group, Inc. as a construction manager and project controls engineer. He has experience in virtually every building type and project delivery system.

ALSC

Robert Schmidt has joined ALSC as an intern architect with a bachelors degree form the University of Idaho. He was recently involved in the production of contract documents for the new Quincy Elementary School. Stephen D. Harris has joined the staff of Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) as chief structural engineer. He has more than 20 years of shipboard and engineering marine experience, including extensive involvement in structural design for the offshore industry in the Gulf Coast area and the North Sea.

Meng

Catherine Kim has joined Meng as manager of marketing and client services. She has worked in business development for engineering, design and high-tech firms. Patrick Mahoney has joined the firm as an intern architect. Elizabeth Whiteford has joined Meng as a project assistant and will work on value analysis projects as well as marketing an other projects. As new office manager, Julie Beck is responsible for administrative support and human resource duties. Kim Trimiew will provide general office and marketing support as a new administrative assistant.

GeoEngineers

Bob Metcalfe has been hired as a project geotechnical engineer in the Redmond office of GeoEngineers. He has worked with private and municipal clients on roads and bridges, all building types, retaining structures, pipelines and landfills. He is currently at work on three dams for the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Pinnacle

Byron Mark has joined The Pinnacle Consulting Group as a project manager. He will manage industrial engineering projects for Emery Worldwide Airlines, Matsushita Avionics Systems and amazon.com. His work involves operations, startup and overall project management. Jim Woodcock has joined the firm as senior project engineer. He is at work on industrial engineering projects for James Hardie Gypsum, Optiva Corp., Skyway Luggage, and Tenneco Packaging. Gene Schoenecker has joined Pinnacle as a CAD operator.

Bureau of Reclamation

John Keys regional director of the Pacific Northwest Region, is retiring after 34 years from the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation. Keys directed the management of water resources in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and parts of Montana and Wyoming for 12 years. Steven Clark, power office manager at Grand Coulee, will serve as acting regional director.

StorNet

StorNet, a nationwide integrator of advanced UNIX-based systems, has opened a professional services office in Seattle. The office is located at 2601 Elliott Ave., Suite 3319.

Washington Research Council

The Washington Research Council has presented its annual Pathfinder Award to Dr. Michael Riley, superintendent of Bellevue Public Schools. The Pathfinder Award recognizes public administrators who have successfully introduced and implemented a program that has substantially improved service quality while reducing costs.

Society of Certified Public Accountants

The Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants honored Pierce College accounting instructor Leslie Price with the Outstanding Community/Technical College Educator award. Price is also an adjunct professor at the University of Puget Sound.

Synergy Construction

Synergy Construction Inc. announced that Kevin Adams has joined its staff as manager of operations. Adams has over 14 years of industry-related experience. In his new role, he will manage and direct the sales, marketing and risk management functions of the company.

PIPE Inc.

Timothy R. Knight has been named corporate engineer at Pacific International Pipe Enterprises Inc. in Portland. Knight is a licensed professional engineer registered in Washington and Oregon. He holds a civil engineering degree from Portland State University.

Aalbu Landscape

Aalbu Landscape Maintenance Inc. of Everett recently won several national safety awards from the Associated Landscape Contractors of America. Aalbu Landscape, headed by Tim Aalbu, will be presented with the honors at ALCA's upcoming Nov. 12 annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn. The company was cited for having no vehicle accidents, no lost time and most improved fleet safety.
