Communities in Schools

Joe Taller was recently named director of Communities in Schools of Washington State. Taller formerly served as director of corporate contributions and K-12 education at the Boeing Co., where he worked for 40 years.

Lane Powell Spears Lubersky

Kimberly Meyers has joined the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in the Seattle office as an associate and will concentrate her practice in the areas of tort and employment litigation, ERISA litigation and employment counseling.

TCI Media Services

TCI Media Services has transferred Tacoma account executive Steve Fries to the company's headquarters office in Seattle and expanded his duties. Amy Walkeris the new lead administrator for TCI's commercial production department. Gary Crichton has been hired as a video engineer in the Olympia office. Uvena Cockran has joined the Seattle office as sales assistant.

Cole & Weber

Cole & Weber has promoted Karen Tollefson to media supervisor, Chamain LeDoux to account executive, Nicole Hammes to media supervisor, Sun Yi to assistant broadcast producer, Stacey Jo Witt to client billing supervisor and Kathy Hawley to accountant.

Garvey, Schubert & Barer

Gregory R. Dallaire has been elected chair of the Washington State Commission on Judicial Conduct. Dallaire is the managing director of Garvey, Schubert & Barer, a Seattle-based law firm.

DeLaunay/Phillips

Jennifer Hirsch and Dori Kaplan have joined Seattle-based DeLaunay/Phillips Communications Inc. Hirsch will serve as an account executive and Kaplan will serve as an assistant account executive.

Stoel Rives

Barbara C. Sherland, a partner at the Seattle offices of Stoel Rives, has been elected a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Signature Media

Signature Media Services Inc., a Tacoma-based marketing and communications firm, has added writer Tom Llewellyn; video producer Shiela Stone; graphic designers Helen Gould and Gary Jackson; and creative directors Scott Bailey and Charlee Glock-Jackson.

Talking Rain

Talking Rain Beverage Co. of Preston has introduced a new super-oxygenated natural spring water called airwater at a food show in Chiba, Japan. Talking Rain has shipped the first order for half a million bottles with Japanese labeling.

Coho Cafe

Executives at The Coho Cafe, part of the Arnies Restaurants Northwest management group, have chosen Hammerquist Saffel & Halverson of Seattle to handle marketing for the opening this fall of their flagship location at Bella Botega Square in Redmond. Seattle food consultant Ted Furst is helping to develop the new concept for a high-energy seafood restaurant with an eclectic menu. The owners plan to expand into several markets over the next year.

SMWB shifts top execs into new roles

Skilling Ward Magnusson Barkshire (SWMB) has assigned new leading roles to three top members of the firm. Jon Magnusson, who was a principal at SWMB at age 30 and chief executive officer at age 34, has now been named chairman as well as chief executive officer. He is currently acting as principal in charge for projects with an aggregate construction cost of three quarters of a billion dollars. Ron Kelmencic is the new president of the firm. In the last five years, he has led the engineering of projects in 15 countries. Brian McIntyre has been named chief operating officer at SWMB.

Hart Crowser

John Herzog has been promoted to project sediment specialist at Hart Crowser, Inc. He has been with the firm for two and one half years, and specializes in Puget sound estuarine processes. He is currently involved in the remedial design investigation of the Lockheed Shipyard operable unit located near Harbor Island, and other remedial design investigations and dredging projects in Commencement Bay, the Duwamish and elsewhere. James Beaver has been named senior staff geotechnical engineer with Hart Crowser. He has been with the firm for two years, and is currently acting as geotechnical project engineer for the Terminal 18 expansion for the Port of Seattle, and for the World Trade Center, Wall Street, Uwajumaya, and Union Station developments.

Abacus

Mechanical engineer Mark Stavig has been promoted to the position of principal at Abacus. He is currently working on the Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield, Colorado; The Meysen Academy in Sendal, Japan, and the new Seattle University Law School. James Archbold has joined the electrical group at Abacus. His previous positions include several years at Boeing Defense and Space. He is currently working on a new automated mixing system at Fisher Mills and is designing the electrical systems for new head end equipment rooms for TCI Cable in Seattle.

Fossatti

Kathryn Majorki has joined Robert Fossatti Associates as business manager. She spent the last ten year as business manager for Hendricks Electric in Ballard.

Brumbaugh

Kristen Lundquist has been promoted to associate status at the Kirkland landscape architecture firm Brumbaugh & Associates. She joined the fron in 1993 and is currently the project manager for the Microsoft St. Andrews complex, a new hospital in Silverdale, and residential communities near Seattle and Portland. Mike Fleming has joined the firm as a senior designer. He is currently working on design of the Sammamish Parkplace, the Bellevue Technology Tower, and the new headquarters for Sellen Construction. Burton Yuen recently joined the firm as CAD manager. He is working on the Issaquah Highland residential community and a new park system for the City of Hillsboro, Oregon.

McGowan Broz

Debbie Lematta has joined McGowan Broz Engineers in Bellevue as marketing manager. She was most recently with Heery International, and before that she was marketing manager for Arai/Jackson. George Sjaastad has joined the firm as a senior mechanical engineer, with over 30 years experience in plumbing and piping systems and machine design.

Transpo Group

Jennifer Lowe has joined The Transpo Group in Bellevue as senior transportation engineer. She is currently project manager for the downtown Juneau parking study and is working on the Redmond Ridge Transit Plan and also on transportation station analyses for the Quadrant Lake Union development and the North Tacoma Home Depot store. Hicham F. Chatila has joined The Transpo Group in Bellevue as director of advanced transportation systems after a two year absence inwhich he managed traffic control systems for the City of Beirut. He specializes in traffic operations and control systems, and is currently providing engineering services for several park-n-ride projects. Russell Gomke joined the firm as transportation engineer specializing in rural projects. He recently completed a rural automated highway systems study for the Greater Yellowstone Corridor. He was previously with the Western Transportation Institute.

ICON

Dale Poussier has joined the Infrastructure Consulting Corporation (ICON) in its SeaTac office as senior project engineering and manager of transportation projects. He previously supervised the program and services branch of Engineering Services for the King County Division of Roads and Engineering. In 1995, Poussier was awarded the State American Public Works Association's James Robertson Award, in 1996, he received a national private sector award from the national organization for his work in construction standardization.

Horton Dennis

Civil engineer Charles May has bene named an associate at Horton Dennis & Associates, Inc. He has been with the firm for 10 years. Thomas Collins, also a civil engineer, has been promoted project engineer. Carl Dummann, Jr. has joined the firm as a senior project designer for private development projects. Jingsong Feng has joined Horton Dennis as a senior designing engineer providing civil engineering services to both private and public sectors. Ellen Marko was recently hired as an CAD drafter. In the East Wenatchee office of Horton Dennis, Bonnie Hastings has been named lead technician for the materials testing laboratory. Samir Basmeh, Laurie Kutrich and Charleen Neal have joined the East Wenatchee office as field technicians.

BOE

Edward Estevez has joined BOE Architects as a project associate. His projects include the new sanctuary addition for the Puyallup Church of the Nazarene, the Wright Roofing office in Tacoma, the Mt. Clemens Golf Course clubhouse in Detroit, Michigan and the new Highway State Patrol Facility in Olympia. He will also manage CAD systems in the office.

CDi

Marc A. Inman has joined CDi Mechanical Engineers in Lynnwood. He is currently working on mechanical systems planning and design for several projects at the University of Washington Medical Center, including the Pacific Tower renovation and the eighth floor cancer center. Kenneth A. Warren has also joined the firm as a mechanical designer, and is currently working on the Seafirst Performing Arts Center in Wenatchee.

Thomas-Cook

Greg Benton has joined Thomas-Cook Architects as project manager, working on municipal, senior care, industrial ad commercial projects. David Head has joined the firm as a project architect, and is now at work on educational, senior care, and ecclesiastical projects. Robert Welfringer has joined the firm as production systems manager. Susan Scott has joined Thomas-Cook as office manager and marketing manager.

SMPS Microsoft construction site tour

A "Microsoft Construction Site Tour" box lunch program will travel to the Troon project on Thursday, July 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The project consists of two six-story office buildings totaling almost one million square feet. Building features include office space, cafeteria, below- and above-grade parking structures, and a state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical cooling system. Design elements include post-tensioned, cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete panels and a highly advanced water runoff detention and treatment system. Bring a hard hat and safety glasses if you have them. Also wear hard-soled shoes and pants (no skirts, dresses, or shorts). The tour is sponsored by the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). Shuttle service will be provided at Overlake Park Presbyterian Church from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Made Right in America exhibit

Union Square Limited Partnership, Unico Properties and Lowe Enterprises Investment Management are currently presenting "Made Right in America," featuring the work of Russell Wright, one of the nation's chief industrial artists of the 20th century. Shown are spun aluminum, glassware, furniture, textiles and "American Modern" dinnerware dating from the 1930s. The exhibit is in the Sixth Avenue lobbies of One and Two Union Square, 600 University, and ends July 31. Engineers Club

Andre Studenny of Hamilton Engineering, Inc. will present the unique design features of the bridge mechanical system for the new First Avenue South Bridge at the luncheon meeting of the Engineers Club, Thursday, July 16, 11:45 a.m., at Latitude 47 Restaurant. Sienna

Construction is underway on a 56,000-square-foot, four-story office building in Eugene, Ore., designed by Sienna Architecture of Portland. Completion is scheduled for fall. Chambers Development is developing the project, and Liberty Federal Bank will be a major tenant.

O'Connor

O'Connor Associates, of Bainbridge Island, is currently redesigning an 80-year-old structure for Deep Springs College, an academic institution located on a working ranch in the high desert of California. The firm is also at work on a new 9,000-square-foot administrative services building for Mammoth Hospital in Mammoth Lakes, Calif. Construction is expected to begin this fall.
