Seattle University

Jan Warren Duggar has been named new dean of Seattle University's Albers School of Business and Economics. Duggar formerly served as dean of the department of economics and finance at University of Southwestern Louisiana.

Schwartz Brothers Entertainment Services

Schwartz Brothers Entertainment Services, the Seattle-based food and beverage provider for Benaroya Hall, recently appointed Jack Pan as head chef. Pan will oversee the development and preparation of recipes for all on-premise food services, which includes Gretchen's Cafe, catering and ten lobby bars. Pan most recently spent 12 years as senior catering chef at Gretchen's Of Course.

GET - Guaranteed Education Tuition

This fall Washington State will introduce GET - Guaranteed Education Tuition, a program that allows parents to pre-pay their children's future education at today's rate by purchasing tuition units in advance of their attendance. The credits will be redeemable at all Washington State and out-of-state public and private higher education institutions. Graham & James/Riddell Williams

Meena Kang Latta and Kimberly K. Teraberry have joined Seattle law firm Graham & James/Riddell Williams as associates. Latta will specialize in corporate and securities and Teraberry will specialize in intellectual property.

Highline Community College

Dr. John Huber, a chiropractor and program manager of the Chiropractic Technician Training Program at Highline Community College, recently completed a research project on skill standards and published the results in a 68-page document. The project began a year ago when a $45,000 federal grant was awarded to the training program at the college. The standards will facilitate the development of new college programs around the country.

Mackie Designs Inc.

Mackie Designs Inc., a Woodinville-based manufacturer and marketer of professional audio systems, has appointed Jamie Engen as director, operations of Radio Cine Forniture S.p.A. of Reggio Emilia, Italy. Engen most recently served a senior vice president of Price Waterhouse in Vancouver, B.C.

Several people were recently appointed vice and assistant vice presidents for Safeco Insurance Company. Those promoted include: W. Scott Ables, assistant vice president of claims operations; Bob Kitchen, Jr., assistant vice president of Safeco's commercial insurance sales operations; Robie Baker, regional claims manager for the southern California region; Randy Farless, manager of field marketing operations; Troy Olson-Blair, director of Safeco's network systems department; Linda Mahaffey, assistant vice president for Safeco Securities Inc. and Safeco Services Corp. New Century Media, a Seattle-based broadcast company and owner of KUBE 93, KJR-AM/FM. and KHHO-AM, recently promoted Darryl Rogers to special events/project manager. Rogers formerly worked in a sales position for KJR-FM.

Mortgage Markets

Melissa Weber, Judy Chapman and Christopher Yanke have been named mortgage markets at Mortgage Market's Northgate branch office. They will be responsible for originating and closing home loans for clientele throughout the Seattle metropolitan area.

State Chiropractic Sports Council

Dr. Marc Van Driessche, a Lynnwood chiropractor, was recently elected to chair the Washington State Chiropractic Association Sports Council. The council facilitates chiropractic sports care throughout the state.

Chiropractic Quality Assurance Commission

Dr. Noel Lloyd, a Redmond chiropractor, was recently appointed to the Chiropractic Quality Assurance Commission by Gov. Gary Locke. The commission plays a role in enhancing and maintaining chiropractic's level of professionalism in Washington.

Washington State University

Washington State University at Vancouver has appointed Brian Tissot of the University of Hawaii as its new science program coordinator. Tissot will lead the development of the science programs, including degrees in biology and environmental science.

Scott Bartholomaus, assistant vice president of retirement services for Safeco Life Insurance Company, was appointed vice president for Safeco Life Insurance Companies. Jennifer Davies, assistant vice president of individual life operations, was appointed vice president. Michael E. Madden, , manager of new business for the individual product line, was appointed assistant vice president for Safeco Life Insurance Company and American State Life Insurance Company. Philip Winkel, marketing director for Safeco Life's financial services division, was appointed assistant vice president for Safeco Life Insurance Company.

Paragon Business Solutions of America Inc.

Paragon Business Solutions of America Inc., a Utah-based business administration company, has expanded its services to Seattle. The company has opened an office at 9311 South East 36th St. in Mercer Island. David Briney has been appointed area manager and is responsible for all sales and administrative support.

University of Washington

Professor Steve Badanes has been appointed to the Howard S. Wright Endowed Chair in the Department of Architecture at the University of Washington (UW), where he will continue to lead design/build education programs. Badanes is widely recognized as a member of the firm Jersey Devil. The group's work has been the subject of two books: "The Jersey Devil Design/Build Book" (1985) and "Devil's Workshop: 25 Years of Jersey Devil Architecture" (1997). Professor Badanes first came to the University in 1988 and has taught design/build studios locally and in Mexico. Assistant Professor Alex T. Anderson comes to the UW Department of Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as the result of a national search. He received his undergraduate education at Cornell University and his Ph.D. in the history and theory of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania in 1997. He will teach architecture design studios and a variety of history and theory classes. Assistant Professor Brian Johnson, who has previously taught at UW, was appointed to his new position after a national search. He will continue to participate in teaching and research in design computing as well as Web-based education and research.

GeoEngineers

Galan McInelly has been promoted to associate in the Redmond office of GeoEngineers. He has worked for the firm for five years and manages the engineering geology group. He specializes in geologic hazzards work, including managing landslide projects for Olympic Pipeline Company.

SCS

Philip P. Stecker has joined SCS Engineers. His previous clients -- as a member of two other international solid waste and wastewater engineering firms -- have included municipalities as well as private industry. He has developed regional plans for waste management and strategies and for waste-to-energy plants.

DCI

Kathryn Emery has joined D'Amato Conversano Inc. (DCI) as a civil engineer and specialist in storm drainage studies and solutions. Emery has completed site design for major church projects in Hawaii and throughout the West Coast. Daniel Fredrickson has also joined the firm. He has worked as a structural engineer for the last six years and his experience includes geotechnical engineering and a major research project on marine slope stability. Judith Larsen is the new marketing director at DCI. She is a former radio news director and television reporter. John Dunham has joined the firm as controller, with over twenty years of experience in the construction industry. Joe Roni, a University of Washington graduate, has joined the structural engineering team at DCI.

Berger/ABAM

Bob Richardson has been promoted at Berger/ABAM to the level of project manager. He has been with the firm for 23 years, specializing in waterfront and marine facilities projects. Rich Davis has been promoted to senior construction specialist. With 25 years of experience, he now serves as resident engineer for the Port of Tacoma's Hyundai terminal facility wharf design.

Meng

Donald Ashton has joined Meng as a project architect. Ashton was most recently with BOOR/A, in Portland, and specializes in educational facilities, performing arts centers, hotels and retail projects. Jim Beley has joined MENG as an intern architect in retail. Previously, Beley worked on corporate projects for HOK. Carrie Thompson has joined the firm as the new business and accounting administrator. Molly Pym, a new administrative assistant, will provide general office and marketing support.

Yanick

Bainbridge Island architect Miles Yanick has been appointed to Poulsbo's new design review board. Yanick's firm has designed several projects in Poulsbo, including the award-winning Central Market. Among the issues the board faces are corporate or franchise-determined designs, historic preservation, and the fit of new construction with the surrounding community.

BCE

Engineer Erik Prestegaard has joined BCE Engineers, Inc. of Tacoma as vice president, responsible of business development, contract administration and technical resource planning and allocations. He most recently held a similar position with Tsang Partnership Architects. Mark A. Brandewie has joined the firm as a mechanical and fire protection engineer. Jeremy Nichols is a University of Washington graduate in chemical engineering and has joined BCE as a mechanical engineer.

Cierra Associates

Deborah Pendergraft has joined Cierra Associates as a project manager. In her most recent position with Sparling, she was involved in commercial health care and educational projects, most recently the Safeco Redmond Campus. Rod Savard, a senior project manager, has relocated from the Tri-Cities and a 20-year career supporting the Hanford Nuclear Reservation to join Cierra. Jonathan Gordon, an industrial technology graduate of Western Washington University, has joined the firm as a CAD designer.

Helix

Tami Antush has joined Helix Architecture in Tacoma as marketing coordinator. She is a graduate of Central Washington University and was most recently employed by Telco Community Credit Union.

Dull Olson Weekes

Bonnie Bruce has joined Dull Olson Weekes in Portland as director of interiors. She has degrees in interior design, sociology and community development, and has twenty years of interior design practice experience.

Tres West

Bruce Gustafson has joined Tres West Engineers as an associate engineer. Recent projects include an outpatient psychiatric care facility for the Department of Veteran's Affairs and a remodel of a 30,000-square-foot educational facility at Green River Community College.
