RSP/EQE

Work has begun at RSP/EQE on a comprehensive, seven-phase seismic upgrade to the Sea-Tac International Airport Terminal. RSP/EQE is providing structural design services in conjunction with Berger/ABAM and Arai Jackson. Solutions include installing approximately 200 exposed steel pipe braces, connecting adjacent building segments, new sliding connections for the sloped glass facade, and shear wall strengthening in selected areas. The complete project is expected to cost $35 million over the next five years. RSP/EQE has completed design of a seismic strengthening system for the Bellevue City Hall Addition. The interior bracing solution applies state-of-the-art viscous damping devices to dissipate potential earthquake loads. At one-half the cost of conventional methods, the interior damping system preserves the glass and steel building aesthetic while allowing the building to remain fully operational during construction. The architect of the project is Hewitt Isley. Design is also complete for renovation to the 1906 historic Latona Elementary School in Seattle. This three-story wood structure will be completely rebuilt with added shear walls for improved seismic safety. New construction will house a classroom building, cafeteria, multi-use building with gymnasium, child care facilities, kitchen, learning resource center, offices and covered play area. The architect is Bassetti Architects.
