WHaM Communications, a Seattle-based marketing and public relations firm, recently hired Cheryl Thompson as account executive and Kerry Wilson and Tyson Flandreau as account coordinators. Thompson formerly served as an account executive for Tampa public relations firm Schifino/Lee Inc.
Rongwei Cai has relocated from Hong Kong to join the Seattle office of the international law firm Graham & James. Cai formerly served as an associate at the Hong Kong office of Deacons Graham and James. Cai practices general business transactions and international law.

Gordon Denby has been promoted to chief operating officer in the Redmond corporate office of GeoEngineers. Denby has 23 years of experience as a geotechnical engineer in the region and has worked for GeoEngineers for 15 years. Mary Rutherford has been promoted to principal and Redmond office manager. She has been with the firm since 1991 as a geotechnical engineer. She will manage the Redmond and Seattle office staff and the daily operations of each office.
David Bendet has been named an associate at MBT Architecture. Bendet, who has been with the San Francisco-based firm since 1994, is credited with leading MBT's efforts to integrate architectural design and management with computer-based information systems. He has taught computer graphics applications for architecture at the University of California at Berkeley.
Scott Harm and Mark Adolphsen have been named principals with Anderson Koch & Smith. Adolphsen, who joined the firm in 1990, specializes in the design and management of technology-intensive facilities. Harm manages the firm's San Diego office, where the majority of the work is on commercial and industrial facilities. He has been with the firm for six years.
George Sheng of Berger/ABAM, Federal Way, has been promoted to project engineer. In his nine years of experience in civil and structural engineering he has developed a specialty in foundation engineering. Dwain Zahn has been promoted to senior engineer, with nine years of civil engineering experience in buildings, transportation-related projects and waterfront facilities. Marie Do has also been promoted to senior engineer. She has developed a specialty in transportation-related site development.
John Moran has been named a senior associate at Ruhl-Parr & Associates of Bellevue. He has been with the firm since 1994, and is now at work on a 14-plex theater in Bellingham, a manufacturing plant in Marysville, a new industrial park in Maltby and a distribution center in Auburn. Jim Anderson has been named an associate with the firm. He is responsible for production standards and staff scheduling for Ruhl-Parr, and is currently working on new restaurant models for McDonalds Corp., Wendy's International, Red Robin International, Marsee's Baking Co. and KFC.
Doug MacLean has joined Stewart+King Partnership of Bellingham. He recently practiced in Maui, Hawaii, and has won awards for educational and residential projects there. He is now at work on the New Christian Health Center in Lynden, a nursing home remodeling project.
Alvin Zeman, founder of former Rittenhouse Zeman Associates, has joined geotechnical engineer John Zipper to form a new consulting firm, Zipper Zeman Associates in Lynnwood. The firm offers geotechnical engineering and environmental services. Tom Jones and Dave Williams have joined the firm as senior associates. M. Wayne Blair has been named president of the 24,000-member Washington State Bar Association. Blair is an attorney at the Seattle law firm of Montgomery, Purdue, Blankinship & Austin, where his practice centers around commercial, business, real estate and construction law.
DesignSight recently hired Stewart A. Williams as graphic designer. Williams was previously art director of The Rocket. R.J. Tancicio has been hired as marketing director. DesignSight has moved to 55 Bell St., Suite 201, in Seattle.
