Wells Fargo has hired Lori Kloes as its regional marketing director for Washington. Kloes will be based in Seattle. Kloes formerly served as regional director of marketing communications for Providence Health Systems in the Puget Sound region.

Regence BlueShield

Regence BlueShield has named Charles Bicknell vice president of human resources. Bicknell formerly served as senior vice president of human resources with California's Home Savings of America.

Color and Architecture at BAM

"Light, Space, Color: Steven Holl, Architecture, and Richard Whitely, Glass Sculpture" will run as a concurrent exhibit in "Hands On Color" at the Bellevue Art Museum, 301 Bellevue Square, through Jan. 17. "Color and Significance in Architecture," a lecture by Galen Minah, architect and associate professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Washington, will be presented on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. Admission is $5; $3 dollars for members.

AWA silent auction

The Association for Women in Architecture (AWA) will hold a holiday silent auction to support its scholarship program for female graduate students at the University of Washington's College of Architecture and Urban Planning on Friday evening, Dec. 11, from 6 to 10 p.m. in the first floor reception space of NBBJ, 111 S. Jackson St. A light dinner, including wine and dessert, will be provided. Auction items have been donated by participating design firms and other members of the architectural community. Glumac is biggest

Glumac International was named the largest combined mechanical and electrical engineering firm headquartered on the West Coast in the annual listing of "M/E Engineering Giants" by the national trade magazine Consulting-Specifying Engineer, based on mechanical and electrical billings for the 1997 fiscal year. With $13.1 million revenues from its five West Coast offices, Glumac ranked 49th overall nationally. Recently, the firm has moved its corporate headquarters to Portland from San Francisco. Glumac is planning to open offices in 1999 in San Diego and Los Angeles. The firm recently doubled the size of its Seattle office to provide mechanical, electrical and telecommunications engineering for the largest commercial project in the Puget Sound region, the 2.7 million-square-foot Lincoln Square development in Bellevue.

Waterleaf helps PAWS

Waterleaf Architecture & Interiors has been given the Progressive Animal Welfare Society's 1998 Outstanding Service to Wildlife Award for the firm's "tremendous generosity" in donating architectural drawings and preparing a site assessment for the large mammal and raptor facility. To date, Waterleaf has donated approximately $50,000 in design services to the facility. It is unique in the size and natural setting of the cage enclosures and video conferencing technology. PAWS has not yet decided on a site for the facility.

Pedestrian book wins APA award

The American Planing Association and the Planning Association of Washington recently recognized the "Pedestrian Facilities Guidebook" with an Award for Planning Excellence. It was created in response to the 1994 Transportation Policy Plan for Washington, and outlines appropriate design practices for pedestrian facilities and a common-sense approach to improving the pedestrian environment. Production of the book was a partnership between public agencies, private organizations and advocacy organizations. Otak, Inc. the lead consultant to the Washington Department of Transportation and the Puget Sound Regional Council, facilitated the guidebook's development. Parkrose High School recognized

Parkrose High School and Community Center of Portland, won the William J. Caudill Citation for 1998 from American School & University. The AS&U Architectural Portfolio, now in its 16th year, is a tribute to education design excellence published in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects. Each year, a jury of AIA members and school administrators evaluate and select outstanding projects for publication.

Roth Hill wins association award

Roth Hill Engineering Partners, Inc. was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for 1998 by the Washington Association of Sewer & Water Districts for "relentless participation" in the association's committees and conferences.

KPFF

Jaime Saez and Harvinder Singh have joined the civil engineering group in the Seattle office of KPFF Consulting Engineers. Saez, a civil engineer and project manager with over 16 years of experience, has been involved in civil and transportation projects for the Washington State Department of Transportation, local agencies and private developers. He was previously with Parametrix and CH2M Hill. Currently, Saez is working on roadway improvements for the reconstruction of Southeast Eighth in Bellevue and infrastructure for Quadrant's Redmond Ridge development. With over 10 years of experience, Singh's background includes project management for various roadway and highway projects as well as drainage and utility design. Singh was most recently with Entranco. He is now at work on site improvements for Redmond Ridge. Mark Gedosch has also joined the civil engineering group in the Seattle office. He specializes in designing roadway facilities with difficult soil, rock or groundwater conditions. He was previously with KCM. Currently, Gedosh is working on two commuter rail stations for Sound Transit, a King County bridge replacement and a pedestrian bridge for the City of Kirkland. Satendra Jain has joined the Seattle office as a project manager in the bridge and marine structures group. With over 26 years of professional engineering experience, Jain specializes in the design of marine and industrial facilities, shoreline protection systems, environmental projects and hydraulic structures. He also has extensive experience with rapid transit systems and other transportation projects. For 13 years prior to joining KPFF, Jain was senior supervising engineer with Foster Wheeler/Ebasco Services. Currently, he is managing a Washington State Ferries on-call design and environmental engineering contract. Frank Petrie has joined the bridge and marine structures group of KPFF. Petrie specializes in multidiscipline design coordination for industrial, commercial, transportation and public works projects. He is currently project manager for the terminal preservation and maintenance program for Washington State Ferries.

W&H Pacific

Bill Jabs, president of W&H Pacific, was recently inducted into Oregon State University's Academy of Distinguished Engineers. He was one of three engineers selected in the category, "Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering." Achievements recognized include leadership of the 330-person civil engineering and planning firm W&H Pacific; involvement in over 100 airport and highway projects; and participation in the development of an inovative stormwater treatment technology that has been patented and is now being used throughout the U.S. David F. Caneer has been named land development director in the Boise office of W&H Pacific. For the last five years, Caneer has been involved in numerous site development projects throughout Idaho's Treasure Valley, including Micron Technology campus, Boise Airport parking structure, classroom additions at Boise and Bishop Kelley High Schools and the Boise Tower. Kevin Barg has joined the firm as a survey instrument person, responsible for field survey projects.

Robert Fitzmaurice has been appointed operations manager for DOWL Engineers' Redmond office, where he will oversee production of the firm's Washington projects. He is a professional land surveyor with a degree in civil engineering.

Daniel L. Cody has joined Helix Architecture of Tacoma as a project architect. He was most recently employed by BLR+B Architects in Tacoma.

McGranahan

Christopher Mayes has joined the McGranahan Partnership as an intern architect. He is now at work on an auditorium renovation and new cafeteria for Sequim High School.

Berger/ABAM

Kelly Robinson has joined Berger/ABAM Engineers, Inc. as project coordinator specializing in transportation and public works projects. She was previously with Davidson Enterprises.

Avue Technologies

Tacoma-based Avue Technologies has joined in a strategic partnership with Information Management Consultants Inc., who will offer rapid deployment strategies for customers purchasing Avue's automated HR management solutions.

Phoenix Savings Bank

Wayne Bull Jr. has joined Lynnwood's Phoenix Savings Bank as controller and treasurer. Bull formerly served as senior accountant with Cascade Bank in Everett.

Metcalf Hodges & Co.

Dennis Archer, formerly a member of Metcalf Hodges & Co., has left to establish a new accounting group. Harte Bressler, Julie Johansen and David Burt are the three partners remaining with the Bellingham-based accounting and consulting firm.
