Steve Hopp and Jon Schorr have recently joined the Seattle law firm of Carney Badley Smith & Spellman. Hopp and Schorr specialize in business planning, taxation and commercial transactions. Hopp formerly worked at Davis Wright Tremaine and Schorr formerly worked at Williams, Kastner & Gibbs.
John S. Cullen, Douglas M. Poulin and S. Jay Terry have joined Williams, Kastner & Gibbs as associates in the Seattle law office. Cullen will focus on estate planning, business transactional law and tax planning. Poulin will focus on commercial litigation and product liability law. Terry will focus on product liability, construction litigation, medical malpractice and medical discipline issues.
Mimi Haley has been promoted to vice president of public affairs at PacifiCare of Washington, a state-managed health care service company. Haley formerly served as director of regulatory services.
Robert Harkins has been selected as the new chief deputy for the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. Harkins formerly served as deputy commissioner for Consumer Education and Public Affairs.
T3 Media,a New York-based Web integrator, recently opened a Seattle office and appointed Tim Stiles general manager. Daiva K. Tautvydas and Roger D. Wylie have recently become members of Christensen O'Connor Johnson & Kindness, a Seattle-based intellectual property law firm. Tautvydas and Wylie joined the firm as associates in 1996.

LMN Architects has announced that James M. Brown, Mark Hinshaw, David Matthews, Sherrill Myers, Wendy Pautz, Dave Schneider, and David Van Galen have been promoted to principal. Brown has been instrumental in the design of more than 10 convention centers and as well as Benaroya Hall's main auditorium and the Dane County Exposition Center Expansion in Texas. Currently, he is working on the Memphis Performing Arts Auditorium and Convention Center and an addition to the fine arts building at Adams State College in Colorado. As an architect and urban planner, Hinshaw has provided urban design and community planning services to local governments, prepared master plans for public facilities, developed design guidelines for public agencies, and created comprehensive commercial district plans. His major recent projects at LMN include urban planning for the city of Flagstaff, Ariz., the Downtown Tacoma Plan and a comprehensive plan for Lenexa, Kan. He writes a regular column on architecture for The Seattle Times and his book, "Citistate Seattle," will be published in March of this year. As LMN's quality assurance coordinator, Matthews has been responsible for developing the firm's construction document and administration standards. He has established overall LMN policies and procedures. His recent projects include Redmond Town Center, Washington State Convention and Trade Center Expansion, and Seattle Children's Theater Technical Pavilion. Myers has 25 years of experience and a national reputation in the design of theaters, performing arts facilities and large scale urban design projects. He was selected by the National Endowment for the Arts to author the "Theater Facility Impact Study," a comprehensive analysis of regional theater design and planning that received the NEA award for excellence. Currently, he is the project manager for the new Technical Pavilion wing of the Seattle Children's Theatre and Adams State College Performing Arts Theater in southern Colorado. Over the past three years, Pautz has been instrumental in the completion of several performing arts projects, including the Seattle Opera House Renovation Study and the Seafirst Performing Arts Center in Wenatchee. She is currently at work on the Museum of Flight expansion study. Schneider has over 14 years of experience in retail, commercial and education projects with a particular expertise in project management. Recently, he was involved in the planning, design and construction of over 20 buildings at Redmond Town Center. He is also currently the project manager for the Civica office complex in downtown Bellevue. Van Galen's recent work includes the Washington State Convention and Trade Center Expansion, project design for the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group Headquarters, and design team leadership for the exterior of Benaroya Hall. Currently, he is leading design of the Electrical Engineering/Computer Science Engineering Building for the University of Washington. David Arnold, Shirley Chiu, Vern Cooley, Wayne Flood, Jane Hendricks, David Johnson, Richard Johnson, Patreese Martin, Bob Mohr, Pragnesh Parikh, Christine Scharrer and Charles Stadler have been promoted to associate at LMN. Recently joining LMN as associates are Robin Dalton, director of interior design, and Jim Gearhard, CAD manager. Dalton has 12 years of experience in a wide variety of architectural projects that have included commercial, hospitality, health care, restaurant, performing arts and residential work. She comes to LMN from Kaplan-McLaughlin-Diaz following nine years with NBBJ. Gearhard has over 14 years of architectural production experience with a focus on developing and refining the standards and techniques used in computer-aided drafting and design. Gearhard was recently the studio CAD lead for Callison Architecture's retail studio, where he developed many of that firm's current CAD production standards.
Khurram Khan has joined R.W. Beck, adding to the firm's expertise in telecommunications engineering. He was recently with Edmonton Power in Alberta, Canada, where he has involved in the design specification and commissioning of communication systems for operating several telecommunications technologies, managing capital projects and offering operating and maintenance advice.
Peng Heng Teo has been promoted to principal-in-charge of the international division at Mulvanny Architects. He has been with the firm since 1990. The firm's large commercial clients include Costco, Nike, Sears, Fred Meyer, HomeBase and Office Max.
Ray Carden has joined AHR as staff scientist and manager of "direct push" field services, which include soil core sampling, discrete point groundwater sampling, soil gas sampling and small diameter well installation. He was previously with Vironex Environmental Field Services.
Jeff Haynes has joined CG Engineering of Edmonds as civil project manager. He is currently working on site development plans for a design-build medical facility in Bothell. Frank Unocic has been staff engineer for a year and is currently working on Rodland Toyota while finishing his master's degree in structural engineering at the University of Washington. Other additions to the staff at CG Engineering include staff engineer Kevin Sabler, CAD specialist and designer Sharon Koch, and bookkeeper/marketing coordinator Amanda Jones.
Brian Austin has joined Yaletown Technology Group, a Kirkland information-technology consulting firm specializing in decision support systems and electronic document management. Austin was previously business manager for Carlson Architects, and has also been business manager and regional administrative manager for Dames & Moore.
Yergen & Meyer, an Oregon and Washington accounting firm, has selected Gerald W. Burns the Outstanding Business Development Partner. Burns is a partner in the firm's Medford office. Rhonda Bohall was named recipient of the firm's outstanding overall performance for staff award. Bohall is the office manager at the Medford office.
Everett Mutual Bank and Commercial Bank of Everett have appointed Margaret Bavasi chairman of the board for both institutions. Bavasi formerly served as a co-owner of the Everett Aqua-Sox Baseball Club.
Williams, Kastner & Gibbs has added Daniel D. Woo as Of Counsel in the Seattle office. Woo advises and represents companies in intellectual property matters and litigation. Woo formerly served as a sole practitioner and a shareholder in Misterek & Woo.
The International Patient Services Department at Swedish Medical Center and the Seattle-based Maritime Health Services division of Global Medical Systems Inc. have joined forces to offer medical services to crews on vessels navigating the waters off Washington, British Columbia and Alaska. Maritime Health Services founders Michael L. Brown and Ray Jarris will serve as co-medical directors of International Maritime Services.
