Hawkins & Company Inc.

Hawkins & Company Inc., a Seattle-based public relations agency, recently hired Janet Simmelink as an account manager. Simmelink formerly served as a freelance writer and public relations consultant.

Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe

Mark S. Parris was recently appointed managing partner of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe's Northwest office. Parris succeeds Bruce M. Pym, who, after serving five years, will return to practicing law full-time. Parris currently chairs the intellectual property litigation practice group and co-chairs the firm's insurance coverage practice group.

1999 Pacific Northwest Good Works Awards

The winners of the 1999 Pacific Northwest Good Works Awards were recently announced on KCTS Channel 9. American Medical Response won the good works award; Starbucks Coffee Company won the education award; Costco Companies Inc. won the community contributions award; and Kibble & Prentice won the families award. The Ackerley Group, Arnerich Massens & Associates Inc., The Boeing Company, Dick's Drive-In Restaurants Inc., IKEA, International Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry and Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers were given honorable mentions. The awards are open to companies and foundations doing business in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and British Columbia.

Cole & Weber recently added Holly Kurtz as copywriter in the Portland office. Kurtz formerly worked as a copywriter for the Integer Group in Lakewood, Colorado.

Sprint PCS

Sprint PCS has appointed Bill Dixon area vice president of the Northwest region, based in Kirkland. Dixon formerly served as president and chief operating officer for Washington-based Cable Plus.

Seattle Public Utilities

J. Paul Blake has been named director of communications for the Seattle Public Utilities. Blake formerly served as assistant vice president and director of public relations at Seattle University.

Northwest Research Group Inc.

Mary Kaye O'Brien recently joined Seattle-based Northwest Research Group Inc. as vice president of custom research. O'Brien formerly worked in research and measurement at a large academic medical center.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle recently named Michael P. Radway chairman of the board, Richard Stallings and Linda Chu Takayama directors for four-year terms, and Emil W. Erhardt, Robert L. Fenstermacher, Robert L. Savage, Kerry K. Killinger and Daniel L. Stevens were elected directors for two-year terms.

King County Superior Court

King County Superior Court presiding judge Bobbe Bridge, judge Laura Inveen and court staff Mary Taylor and Linda Ridge attended the Soroptimist International's annual "Women Making a Difference Seminar", where they accepted awards recognizing the Courthouse Drop-In Child Care Center and the Regional Justice Center. Bridge and Inveen each received the "Women Helping Women" award.

Muir Public Relations and Marketing

Chris McDowall was recently hired as an account executive at Seattle-based Muir Public Relations and Marketing. McDowall formerly served as a marketing director for two radio stations in Toronto.
