The Pixel Co., a Seattle-based company that offers technology allowing applications to function outside the Windows desktop, recently appointed Stuart DePina chief financial officer. DePina formerly served as chief financial officer at Ticketmaster.

Waggener Edstrom

Waggener Edstrom, a strategic communications agency with offices in Bellevue, was included in the second annual Working Women 500 list of women-owned businesses in the magazine's June issue. Waggener Edstrom is ranked 244th on the list, which ranks companies by revenue.

GeoEngineers

GeoEngineers has acquired Gifford Consultants of Spokane. GeoEngineers existing Spokane office will combine with Gifford Consultants as "GeoEngineers-Gifford." Gifford founder and president Allen Gifford is now a principal with GeoEngineers. The 12-person GIfford office and the 6-person Spokane office of GeoEngineers will move this month into a new, larger facility. James Harakas, existing manger of GeoEngineers' Spokane office will continue as manager in Spokane. This is the first acquisition for the 165-person, Redmond-based GeoEngineers. The firm also as offices in Anchorage, Bellingham, Seattle, Tacoma and Portland.

HWA GeoSciences

HWA Geosciences has moved its Portland office to 5895 Jean Road, Lake Oswego, 97035-5303. The new telephone number is 675-5282.

Mahlum

Mahlum Architects has been selected to design a new high school for Salem-Keizer Public Schools. The new school, located in West Salem, Ore., will serve approximately 1600 students. Emphasis is placed on providing access to technology throughout the school organizing learning in to smaller units and developing partnerships with parents, neighborhood groups, community organizations, businesses and other schools. Components of the project include a gymnasium, theater, cafeteria, physical education and athletic facilities, and classroom spaces. The school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2002.

Foushee & Associates

Bellevue general contractor Foushee and Associates has hired Nigel Starr and Rick Angehrn as project engineers. Starr has a background in management and graduated from Western Washington University. Angehrn holds bachelor's degree in construction management from Central Washington University.

Reed McClure

Seattle law firm Reed McClure recently elected Steven L. Burgon, Geoffrey Groshong, Vanessa Lee and Petrea Knudsen Reilly were recently elected shareholders. Janice Sue Wang was recently made a principal. Burgon's practice consists of business planning and transaction services with for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Groshong concentrates his practice in bankruptcy law. Lee's practice emphasizes civil litigation, commercial and insurance defense, including premises liability and insurance coverage. Knudsen Reilly concentrates her practice in civil defense litigation involving employment law, health care law, premises liability and insurance coverage and defense. Wang's practice focuses on insurance defense litigation, insurance coverage and professional liability.

TranSystems Corporation Consultants

Mark Peterburs was recently promoted to West Coast rail sector manager in the Bellevue office of TranSystems Corporation Consultants. Peterburs has had 20 years of railroad experience working for TranSystems, Iowa Interstate Railroad and Illinois Central Railroad as a project manager, construction services manager and chief engineer.

Sparling

Michael B. Severns has been named director of health care technology at Sparling. Before joining Sparling, Stevens was director of facilities and technology for St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore., a facility that has received four national awards from te Environmental Protection agency for energy efficient measures and technologies. He served on the board of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) from 1994 to 1998. At Sparling, Severns is currently at work on Telehealth and technology consulting for the Providence General Medical Center in Everett.

Coffman

Jim Pierce has joined Coffman Engineers and Coffman Construction Management to assist in business development. Thomas O. Moore has joined the firm as a communications consultant. His experience includes communications and systems experience for the design of fiber optic and copper infrastructure and network configuration for multi-building campus and multi-story office building projects. Ralph Leitner has re-joined the firm as a mechanical designer. Current projects include Eagle Hardware throughout the U.S., Microsoft Corporation, and AT&T. Paul Lee has joined Coffman as a structural designer. His current projects include the River Park Square Retail Center in Spokane ad St. Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma.

Reid Middleton

Shannon Kinsella has been promoted to senior engineer at Reid Middleton in Everett. She specializes in waterfront and port engineering and has 11 years of experience managing projects that include waterfront parks, boat launches, marinas, floating breakwaters and industrial piers. She has been with Reid Middleton for nine years, and sits on the board of directors for the Seattle section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Walker Macy

Bennett Burns has been made an associate with Walker Macy of Portland. Since joining the firm over ten years ago, his projects have included the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Tillimook Interpretive Center, and the award-winning Jackson Bottom Wetlands. Steve Weiland, a certified public accountant, has joined the firm as controller. Wade Goff has joined Walker Macy as information systems administrator, and will use CAD and Microstation experience to assist with document production. He is now working on Y2K compliance.

W&H Pacific

Robert A. Van Vickle has joined the Portland office of W&H Pacific as water resources team leader and project manager. Prior to joining the firm, Van Vickle managed geology, water quality and hazardous materials programs for the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Architectural Werks

Cary Guenther has been named principal with Architectural Werks, Kirkland. He joined the firm in 1995 as an architect, and his projects include the Everett Clinic's Surgical/Specialty Center and Advanced Imaging Center.

Inca

Shayla Ali has joined Inca Engineers as a senior structural engineer. She has 20 years of experience in structural, thermal, and electromagnetic analysis and design of structures and machinery. Her projects include multi-span bridges, multi-story buildings, manufacturing complexes, and a bus frame. Dennis Cheung has joined the transportation department of Inca, as a design engineer. His experience in civil project design includes road and sewer design, subdivision design and water and drainage system modeling.

Mark E. Croskrey has joined the electrical and mechanical design group of MacTec Meier Associates.
