Financial Security Group

Financial Security Group, a Bellevue financial planning and asset management firm, has hired Mark Jaeger as president to launch an aggressive growth campaign. Jaeger formerly was responsible for personal insurance underwriting operations in San Francisco for

American States Insurance where he expanded the territory to three western states. The firm caters to high net worth individuals and executives in the high-tech industry.

Society of Certified Public Accountants

From now through tax day, April 17, chapters of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants will coordinate an effort by participating accounting firms to collect non-perishable food and cash donations for community food banks. Clients coming in to meet their CPAs are encouraged to bring the donations. Since 1990, the number of participating firms has grown from 30 to 200 and have donated more than 750,000 pounds of food.

Barcelino

Barcelino, a men's retailer specializing in European clothing, has opened a new 5,000-square-foot store in Rainier Square. It was designed by Seattle architect Vassos Demetriou. The Bay Area merchant opened a store in Bellevue Square two and a half years ago, its first expansion outside of California. It has seven stores in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. The company plans to open a store in Portland's Pioneer Place this spring.

Heller Ehrman

Heller Ehrman has restructured its associate compensation for 2000 to meet competitive market conditions. Salary structure changes have also been implemented in the firm's San Francisco, Silicon Valley, San Diego, Los Angeles and New York offices. The new structure has a base compensation for all attorneys and an additional payment at 1,900 hours. The firm has an expectation of 1,800 billable hours. First-year associates are guaranteed a base of $92,500 and a minimum of $5,000 additional on reaching 1,900 hours. A first-year associate has the potential of earning more than $125,000 and fourth-year associates could earn more than $145,000. The bonus program rewards time spent helping to manage and develop the practice.

Stone Construction

Stone Construction Equipment appointed Frank Wenzel as vice president of engineering, Chris Tertinek as vice president of process ergonomics and Hass Beyer as a district manager. Wenzel has been with the company since 1993, serving as senior design engineer, manager of compaction engineering and manager of new product engineering. Tertinek, in his new capacity, will direct the company’s ergonomics education and training efforts. Beyer’s new responsibilities include serving the needs of equipment dealers and rental houses in Maryland and eastern Pennsylvania along with Washington, D.C.

Stone Construction has realigned its field sales organization to expand from three sales regions to four to strengthen its planning and sales efforts. The fourth region will contain the 12 western states – Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming – along with the western provinces of Canada. Appointed as the regional sales manager for the new West Coast region is Corey Strobel.

CIMA announced the appointment of Robert Fien, chairman and CEO of Stone Construction, as first vice chairman of CIMA. Lynne Woodworth, president and COO of Stone, was named chair of the ConExpo/ConAgg marketing committee. Kathryn Reissig, Stone marketing services manager, was named to the ConExpo/ConAgg space and rules committee.

LBX Company

Thomas Roberts has been named chief financial officer of LBX Co., makers of Link-Belt Excavators. Roberts will have overall financial, treasury and information technology responsibilities as well as the strategic development for the company.

For the past six years, Roberts has worked for Case Corp. where he most recently served as director of strategic cost management.

Libby Kinstle has been named advertising/sales promotion manager of LBX. Kinstle will be responsible for all advertising, Internet development, sales literature and public relations for LBX.

Marine Terminals Corp.

Jerry Klein, Marine Terminal Corp. vice president of sales for the Pacific Northwest, was presented with this year’s “Old Salt” award by the Portland Shipping Club at Portland’s Governors Hotel.

The award, presented annually since 1958, honors individuals who, beyond normal work functions, have advanced the Columbia River maritime industry through significant long-term service contributions.

Klein began his career more than 34 years ago working for Brady Hamilton Stevedoring Co. from 1966 to 1983. He then went to work for the Port of Vancouver, and he joined Marine Terminals when it opened its Vancouver, Wash., office in 1989.

With Marine Terminals, Klein retains cargo for the Columbia River and procures new cargos for the Pacific Northwest region. He also promotes the economic viability of the maritime industry for the Columbia-Snake River region by participating in and supporting local maritime organizations such as the Portland Shipping Club and the Propeller Club.

Grove Worldwide

Eight Grove Crane distributors received a special Excellence award for their overall performance in 1999 — Shawmut Equipment Co., Manchester, Conn.; Head & Engquist, Baton Rouge, La.; Gleason Cranes, Chicago, Ill.; Hayden-Murphy Equipment, Minneapolis, Minn.; American State Equipment, Milwaukee, Wisc.; Nebraska Machinery, Omaha, Neb.; Honnen Equipment, Commerce City, Colo.; and Cowin Equipment, Birmingham, Ala.

The awards recognize outstanding acheivement in market share, sales improvement, parts and service performance, service and sales training and overall support of Grove Crane products and promotions.

Compaction America

Compaction America has named Lee Taylor to the post of sales manager for its central sales region and has promoted Barry Lowe to the position of sales manager for the western region.

Taylor has more than 25 years of experience in the construction equipment industry. Most recently, he served as a district manager for Waukesha-Pearce Industries of Houston, Tex., where he was responsible for marketing, sales, service and parts.

Since 1983, Lowe has held the position of district sales manager for Bomag heavy equipment
