AdvanceOnline, provider of Web-based training solutions to help organizations comply with environmental, transportation and occupational safety and health regulations that is headquartered in Seattle, has hired seven new employees. The new hires are; Kristen Blum, course developer; Xenia Chilkowich, manager of operations; April Grayson, course developer; Jennifer Haupt, senior marketing writer; Fay Lim, marketing communications manager; Jacob Metcalf, graphic designer; and Don Rossow, senior business development manager. AdvanceOnline partners with corporations, associations, government agencies and other training providers to design, develop and deploy its Online Institutes, an expanding network of Web-based training sites.

Seattle Public Schools

Kjell Rye, a teacher at Garfield High School in Seattle, has been honored with an Innovation in Teaching Award from the Washington Software Foundation. Rye was selected by a panel of experts for his innovative approach to using technology as a tool to teach mathematics and science in at-risk communities. He has taken his students to Mexico, Mozambique and Russia where they installed computers in orphanages and schools. Students lead, organize, fund and implement Computers for the World, a non-profit program that has donated computers to countries on every continent except Antarctica.

Simpson Timber

Jim Dickison was recently hired for a new position as Northwest log procurement and sales manager for Shelton-based Simpson Timber Co. Since 1996, Dickison worked for Koncor Forest Products and more recently as an independent consultant.

InterWest Bancorp

InterWest Bancorp has appointed Patrick Fahey president and CEO. He was also named chairman, president and CEO of InterWest Bank. Fahey will continue as chairman, president and CEO of Seattle-based subsidiary Pacific Northwest Bank, a commercial bank he founded in 1988 and which was acquired by InterWest Bancorp in 1998. Steve Walden has been appointed chairman of the board for the company.

Advanced Biometrics

Puyallup-based Advanced Biometrics recently closed on a stock trade acquisition of Tacoma-based Carlson-Formetec, a 25-year-old titanium and aircraft parts manufacturing company. Advanced Biometrics has developed and patented LiveGrip technology which can positively identify a person by using an infrared light to identify the inside of the human hand and then verify an individual's identity. The acquisition of Carlson-Formetec will align Advanced Biometrics with a manufacturing and distribution channel for its LiveGrip technology.

Bartell Drugs

Thompson Drugs, located in Bellevue and founded in 1946, officially becomes part of locally owned Bartell Drugs on April 24 when new signage is installed. Bartell purchased the store in 1997 and has operated the store while merchandise offerings and services were gradually changed. Founded in 1890, Seattle-based Bartell Drugs own and operates stores in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties

Mulvanny Architects

Lucie Rochon, director of human resources, has recently been promoted to officer and vice president of human resources for Mulvanny Architects. She has 20 years of experience in the human resources field.

Phillip Goodman has been named vice president of the firm. He has over 14 years of experience on large commercial projects. He is leading the tenant improvement team for Mulvanny's new office at Hines' 112th <@> 12th complex in Bellevue.

Celeste Lenon has been promoted to vice president. She will continue to manage the integration of technology with the business of architecture. She has designed and implemented a database application that integrates architectural processes and business practices into a centralized project management tool for the firm's offices nationwide.

Nakano Associates

Nakano Associates has recently hired Ed Mah as a senior associate and Nhon Truoug as an associate landscape designer.

Mah has more than 24 years of professional experience encompassing project experience in street improvements, urban design, institutional, public parks, transit and office parks. He is working on several projects, including the West Seattle High School renovation and the Technology Resource Center at Renton Technical College.

Truong, a recently graduate from the University of Washington, is currently working on several projects, including the Burien Community Center Park and Skateboard Park, the Sunnyside Beach Railroad Crossing and the Seattle Center Children's Garden.

NBBJ

NBBJ has named Richard Dallam and Rysia Suchecka of the Seattle office and Dan Meis of the Los Angeles office as partners.

Dallam, who has academic degrees in both philosophy and architecture, is involved with projects such as the Hall of Still Thought, which serves as a center at the Tzu Chi Taichung Medical Campus in Taichung, Taiwan. He was chairman of the Seattle Arts Commission's public art committee.

Suchecka's projects in Seattle include the Gene Juarez Spa and Salon, Edmond Meany Hotel, Market Place Tower, Security Pacific Art Gallery and ZymoGenetics. She moved to the United States from Poland in 1971 and joined the firm in 1981.

Meis has worked for Chicago architectural firms. He recently won a competition to design the $750 million Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan. He is also working on the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals stadiums.

The firm has also named several West Coast principals.

Brent Rogers has worked on the corporate headquarters for Teledesic and Adobe, and the Quadrant Lake Union Center.

Lori Walker, an interior designer, has worked on Optiva's World Headquarters.

Alan Young is leading interior architecture for the new Immunex corporate headquarters in Seattle.

Jin Ah Park is working on design of Telenor's corporate headquarters in Oslo, Norway.

Jonathan Ward is working to develop the use of new computer technology as a prime design tool.

Tom Morton is project manager for Telenor's corporate headquarters in Oslo.

Teri Oelrich, a former clinical nurse, earned an MBA and then joined NBBJ in 1989 as a health care planner.

Reid Middleton

William Ness, senior engineer, and Joseph Mathieu, design engineer, have joined the civil projects group of Reid Middleton.

Ness will work as project manager and quality control specialist, and will develop the firm's sewer and water system practice. Previously, he worked for EarthTech in Bellevue.

Mathieu will design site development, stormwater management and utility systems. Prior to joining the firm, he was a project engineer at RoseWater Engineering in Seattle.

Reid Middleton is a structural, civil engineering, planning and surveying firm based in Everett.

Skillings-Connolly

Gary Richardson has joined Skillings-Connolly as a project manager. A retiree from the Washington State Department of Transportation, Richardson worked for Parsons Brinckerhoff before joining the firm.

His expertise includes design, contract administration and maintenance operations for roadways, bridges and structures.

Skillings-Connolly is a civil, transportation and environmental engineering firm based in Lacey.

Sparling

Sparling, an electrical engineering and technology-consulting firm based in Seattle, recently promoted two of its employees in the marketing department.

Kathleen O'Malley was promoted to marketing communications manager, and Kristy Rosenberg was promoted to marketing manager.

iTango Software

iTango Software, a Seattle-based provider of Web-based employee relationship management applications, announced the addition of Keith Sorrels, vice president of sales, and Charles Kirkland, director of product management to its staff. Charged with leading the company’s worldwide sales operations, Sorrels brings more than 12 years of senior sales and executive management experience. Kirkland brings 25 years of experience in human resources and information systems consulting to iTango.

Seattle-based Point.com unveiled a new business-to-business market strategy, Powered by Point. Building upon its position and strength as an online retailer for wireless phones, accessories and service plans, Point.com has created an integrated e-commerce solution that can be leveraged by any company seeking to sell telecommunications products and services online. Point.com has licensed its private-label e-commerce solution to Ericsson, Staples and the U.S. government.

Fisheries Supply

Fisheries Supply Co. has opened its new 8,000-plus-square-foot display store, featuring a brand new galley store within the store, new electronics section and expanded inventory of paint, maintenance and other products. The new store is located in Mariner’s Square, at the north end of Lake Union, in Seattle. Opening day festivities begin on Friday May 5. The new galley store will specialize in sales, repair and design of cooking, heating and refrigeration equipment. The galley store was designed and is managed by Ed Rekola and Dwight Ballestrasse.

Betts, Patterson & Mines

Rebecca Erin Greene joins Betts, Patterson & Mines, a Seattle-based law office, as an associate in business transactions, taxation and estate planning practice areas. Greene's legal experience includes advising individuals and small business owners regarding wealth transfer planning, entity structuring and agreements.

Arena Sports

Arena Sports, a Seattle-based operator of in-line hockey and soccer arenas, has hired Tim Black as vice president/general counsel. Black will help to develop and implement the company's strategic expansion plan to create a national network of indoor sports arenas. He will also manage the legal affairs of the company
