John J. Houlihan has become of counsel to the Seattle law firm of Short Cressman & Burgess and William L. Dixon has joined the firm as an associate. Houlihan's practice is concentrated in the areas of environmental litigation, compliance counseling and general business law, litigation and planning. Dixon joins the firm litigation practice group practicing in the area of commercial litigation.
Bensussen Deutsch & Associates, a Seattle-based merchandise agency, has appointed Michael Schiller as vice president of sales/licensing. Schiller joined the company in 1997 as an account executive. His new responsibilities include the development and implementation of license acquisition and retail distribution strategy, new client development, cross-promotional opportunities and sales training.
Arun Sarin, former chief executive of Vodafone AirTouch's American and Asia Pacific region, will become the new CEO of InfoSpace.com, a Seattle-based company that provides Internet services to other businesses. Sarin takes the post from the company's founder and chairman Naveen Jain, who will take on the role of chief strategist as the company moves to expand its reach by providing Internet services for cellular phones and other wireless devices.
Stephen Janke joins Salish Lodge & Spa at Snoqualmie Falls as executive chef. Janke has cooked in some of California's most celebrated kitchens including Aqua, Act IV and the Cypress Club, all in San Francisco. Kenn Madsen has joined the lodge as director of food and beverage. Madsen held the same position with The Lodge at Pebble Beach, The Inn at Spanish Bay and Casa Palmero before joining the team at Salish.
Experience Music Project, Seattle's soon-to-open interactive music museum, has selected Seth Adleman as the museum's retail operations manager. Adleman will be responsible for establishing and building the museum's retail operations both at the museum itself and online, focusing on new and distinctive merchandise
Redmond-based Nuprecon has hired Tullus A. Gordon as chief estimator and promoted Chris Eckholm to senior estimator. Gordon has 28 years of construction experience, most recently serving as president of TAG Construction. Eckholm has been estimating at Nuprecon for the past two years and has a background in hazardous materials abatement. Nuprecon is one of the 20 largest demolition contractors in the country.
HCI Steel Building Systems, a manufacturer and designer of pre-engineered building systems, has appointed Lee Stanton as district sales manager for the Spokane regional sales office. At its headquarters in Arlington, HCI has hired Bruce Wellenbrink as a structural engineer and Blake Orr as the plant quality control manager. Stanton has a background in the metal industry and will focus his marketing efforts in Eastern Washington, Montana, Idaho and parts of Oregon and Nevada. Wellenbrink has experience in steel building design and structural steel design. Orr has a background as a quality control manager of structural steel fabrication.
Keith Bjella, chief estimator and senior project manager for Allied Construction, has been selected as one of the 30 participants for the Leadership Snohomish County 2000 program. The goal of the program is to prepare and inspire an emerging generation of leaders for the county's future. The program includes a two-day retreat and seven days of classes.
Modern Building Systems of Aumsville, Ore., recently won several awards at the annual Modular Building Institute's awards ceremony. The company won first place in the Permanent Retail & Hospitality Under 3,000 Square Feet category for a Texaco Food Mart in Salem, Ore.; honorable mention in the Permanent Factory Built Special Application category for a modular admittance office for the Oregon Youth Authority in Woodburn, Ore.; and honorable mention in the Marketing Piece Promotional Brochure category for its brochure featuring modular classrooms.
