Brain Todd, formerly head of the tax department at Reed McClure law firm in Seattle, and Michelle C. Osborne have joined the tax law group at Davis Wright Tremaine. Todd is of counsel and Osborne is an associate. Todd concentrates his practice on tax law and limited liability company and partnership business transactions. Osborne focuses on tax-exempt organizations.

Rosetta Inpharmatics

Rosetta Inpharmatics of Kirkland has appointed Alfred G. Gilman to the company's scientific advisory council. He is a Nobel Laureate and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Rosetta has create a platform that enhances the drug discovery process for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Moss Adams

Moss Adams announced that Financial Security Group of Bellevue has affiliated with the firm. Financial Security Group provides financial advisory services to individuals and has over $400 million of assets under management. With this transaction, Moss Adams will have 27 offices and four affiliated companies. Moss Adams has offices in Washington, Oregon, New York City and London.

Brian Bradley is the new vice president of marketing and membership at the Washington Athletic Club. He has over 20 years experience in marketing.

Avista

Spokane-based Avista Corp. announced key additions to the management team at the company's fuel cell technology subsidiary, Avista Labs. J. Michael Davis joins Avista Labs as chief executive officer; Kim Zentz becomes president and chief operating officer; and Frank Ignazzitto joins as vice president of marketing. Davis was with Kyocera Solar of Scottsdale, Ariz., and is serving his second term as president of the national Solar Energy Industries Association. Avista's fuel cell power system is targeted for residential and small commercial markets throughout the world.

PlayNetwork

Redmond-based PlayNetwork announced the appointment of a new chief financial officer (CFO): Richard Denmark.  Company officials say the hiring positions the company for a number of upcoming strategic moves. Denmark served from 1997 to April 2000 as CFO, vice president of Finance & Administration and corporate secretary of Pyramid Breweries, a specialty beverage company with brewing and restaurant operations in Seattle and Berkeley, Calif. Previous to that he was with Ocean Beauty Seafoods. PlayNetwork, Inc. is a privately held, global company that provides business music solutions. 

Foster Pepper

Foster Pepper & Shefelman has added Thomas H. Nelson and Craig R. Aird to the Seattle office of the law firm. Nelson is a member who concentrates his practice on tax and business planning, partnerships, limited liability companies, joint ventures and tax-exempt organizations. He was formerly with Graham & Dunn. Aird is an associate who works in estate planning. He was formerly with Brown Davis & Roberts in Gig Harbor.

LightingUniverse.com

LightingUniverse.com has been chosen by CornerHardware.com to be its exclusive lighting partner. The Kirkland-based company will offer 74,000 lighting products and accessories from more than 80 manufacturers. Company President Gary Rubenssaid he wants to dominate the lighting market online.

Bozell Group

The Seattle office of Bozell Group has become the Pacific Northwest arm of FCB Worldwide, following the decision by Boeing to award its global branding account to FCB Worldwide earlier this year. Bozell Seattle and FCB teamed up to get the Boeing account and agreed to reconsolidate the office under the name FCB to service Boeing. Both Bozell and FCB are part of True North Communications. Pete Hart, current president of Bozell Seattle, will be named chairman of the new FCB operation. He will partner with Ian Beavis who has relocated from Detroit to serve as account director for Boeing and president of FCB Seattle.

Puget Sound Center

The Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology, an information and communications technology training effort by Edmonds and Shoreline community colleges, received a $462,500 grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The money will go toward faculty professional development opportunities, including information technology training.

Society for Technical Communication

The Puget Sound Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication is accepting entries for its 26th annual competition on the theme of "Complete Communications: Integrating Publications, Art and Online." Opus Northwest

Mark Denmarsh has joined Bellevue-based Opus Northwest as the  project coordinator in the architects and engineers department. Denmarsh, who previously worked as project manager at Paradigm Design & Management, will be responsible for Opus' development projects in Seattle and Portland.

MBK Northwest

Dave E. Moore has been promoted to senior vice president at the Portland-based developer MBK Northwest. Working out of the Portland office, Moore will be responsible for the company's retail development/redevelopment projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. MBK is in the last phase of redeveloping the 700,000-square-foot Parkway SuperCenter in Tukwilla.

Mastro Properties

Seattle developer Mike Mastro has started construction on the 59,000-square-foot Valley View Corporate Center, a two-story office/high-tech building in Kirkland at Northeast 126th Place and 139th Avenue Northeast. Broker John Black of the Broderick Group has the job of finding tenants. The architect is Lance Mueller & Associates. Mastro says he expects to lease the space in the mid-$20 range for each square foot and that the completed project will be worth $15.5 million.

Buildex Seattle

A large, two-day trade show for property managers called Buildex Seattle will run Sept. 18 and 19th at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in downtown Seattle. Program topics include solving mold and moisture problems, trends in security systems, "Commercial Roofing 101," endangered species listings and remaining motivated. BOMA on using technology

The next lunch meeting of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Seattle and King County will include a presentation about how real estate professionals use the Internet to succeed.
