The Ackerley Group, a media and entertainment company with offices in Seattle and Tacoma, announced that Christopher Roe has been promoted to vice president of marketing. Roe joined the company in 1998 as director of marketing. He will be responsible for guiding and coordinating strategic marketing and branding initiatives for the company's operating divisions, which include 18 television stations, five radio stations, outdoor advertising and professional sports teams.

ISNetworks, an e-commerce and information-system software company, announced the opening of a Seattle office, where it has relocated its technical and service operations and headquarters. The Seattle office is headed by company CEO Daniel Somerfield and Chief Technical Officer Jess Garms. Somerfield is a member of an advisory board for the University of Washington Extension. Garms is teaching an online introductory computer course, Java 2 Programming, also through the University of Washington's distance learning extension program. Somerfield and Garms are currently under contract to author a book on encryption, to be published by London-based Wrox Press in late 2000. Also joining ISNetorks is software engineer David Reuter. Reuter will work on all aspects of application development
Lish Whitson has opened his own law firm. As Lish Whitson PLLC, he will be focusing primarily on health care, personal injury, medical malpractice, complex civil litigation and mediation/arbitration. Lish has recently been named the King County Bar Association Lawyer of the Year. He was also selected as a "Quiet Hero" of the Bar for his volunteer work.
Bogart Golf, a Bellevue-based golf instruction company, will open four indoor golf training centers in the Dallas area in mid-December. The company already has three Seattle-area training centers with more than 1,000 students. The company recently completed its second round of financing. Proceeds are being used to complete major capital expenses and further expansion efforts nationally and internationally. Centers are expected to open in Atlanta next spring. Bogart Golf anticipates opening 300 training centers within the next five years.

The YMCA of Greater Seattle has named Scott Washburn as its new chief operating officer. With a YMCA career spanning two decades, Washburn previously served as director of the Northwest Management Resource Center for the YMCA of the USA, providing consultation to YMCAs in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho and Montana. In addition, three members of the YMCA's management team in Seattle were promoted to senior vice president roles: Mary Kaufmann in financial development, Christy Lueders and Sheila Tiemens in human resources.
Tom Whitson recently joined the Seattle office of U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffrey as a managing director in the investment banking group of its public finance division. Whitson joins the company as a specialist in health care investment banking, having worked primarily with hospitals and long-term care providers in financing their capital needs. Also joining the company is Anne Watanabe. Watanabe is an assistant vice president and worked with Whitson as a health care banker at Seattle Northwest Securities Corp.
The Pacific Northwest chapter of the Special Libraries Association has elected Nola Sterling president. Sterling, director of library services for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, will serve a one-year term. The association is an international network of 15,000 librarians and information professionals founded more than 90 years ago.
ID Certify, a Seattle-based provider of digital signature-based e-commerce solutions, announced that James Lynn has joined the company as vice president of engineering. Lynn comes from Motorola in Arizona where he served as the director of engineering for its systems solutions group. He will be responsible for managing the overall engineering department, including IT, software development and testing for products and services.
Bellevue Cardiology has affiliated with the Swedish Heart Institute at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. The affiliation will allow Bellevue Cardiology to add an advanced nuclear camera imaging system and another ultrasound imaging system, and to expand its lipid-management clinic and pacemaker follow-up clinic. The doctors at Bellevue Cardiology will continue to see all patients in the practice's current Bellevue and Issaquah offices, and continue to use Overlake Medical Center for admissions and procedures.
