Oregon Coast Aquarium

The Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, Ore., announced the appointment of Cheryl Wilson as public relations officer. Wilson will be responsible for the aquarium's daily public relations objectives and managing the various initiatives in the department. Previously, Wilson was the public relations/promotions coordinator for Eagle Creek, where she managed the public relations department for the California-based international manufacturer of travel gear.

Atlanta-based AFC Enterprises announced the appointment of Steven Schickler as president of its Seattle Coffee Co. subsidiary. As president, Schickler will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company's Seattle's Best Coffee and Torrefazione Italia coffee brands. He will also be responsible for the long-term growth strategy and all operations domestically and internationally.

Randall's responsibilities include restaurant openings, special events, new business, newsletters and communication to the media. Most recently she was employed by foodline.com, an online restaurant reservation company based in New York.

Bullivant Houser Bailey

The Defense Research Institute, the nation's largest association of civil litigation defense lawyers, selected attorney Douglas Houser of Portland-based law firm Bullivant Houser Bailey, as the recipient of its Community Service Award. The association presents the award annually to a member of the organization whose public service activities have had an exceptionally positive impact on his or her community. Houser's activities include United Good Neighbor Drive, the Salvation Army and the Waverly Children's Home.

University of Washington

Dan Garcia is the new executive director of enrollment services at the University of Washington, Tacoma. Garcia manages a staff that provides service in the areas of registration and records, financial aid, personal counseling, disability support and career services, as well as oversees student government and student organizations. He came to the university from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Jan Lovejoy has been appointed general manager of The Painted Table restaurant. Loejoy's responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations and personnel of restaurant. She has more than 23 years of experience as an owner and operator of several businesses on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, including two restaurants

Harold Smith has joined Integra Telecom as director of activations where he will oversee design, provisioning and activation of new customers and services in Washington. As part of its "local serves better" strategy, these pooled resources are located at Integra's Kent headquarters. Smith brings 22 years of telecommunications experience to Integra Telecom. He joins the company after 10 years with MCIWorldcom serving in various roles from switch technician to technical services manager.

Foci Technologies, a Seattle-based developer of e-business transaction management software, has appointed Michael Simonson as vice president of business development. Simonson served as global account executive with Natural Microsystems. At Foci he will be responsible for building the company's strategic alliances in the business-to-business e-commerce mid-market.

The Elliott

The Elliott, a Seattle hotel scheduled to open in spring 2001, has named Joe LaBreche director of corporate sales, Mary Molloy corporate sales manager, Audrey Fan director of group sales and Jodi Forslund director of sales. LaBreche served as a associate with PricewaterhouseCooper's hospitality and leisure practice in New York City prior to joining The Elliott. Molloy previously served as corporate sales manager for The Warwick Hotel in Seattle. Fan most recently served as director of sales and marketing for Seattle's Paramount Hotel. Forslund comes to The Elliott from The Orchid at Mauna Lani in Hawaii where she was director of group sales.

Most recently, he was a partner and vice president at Gauger & Silva Advertising, a natural products agency based in San Francisco.
