Promoted to associates were: Melissa Abbuhl Bullis. Her recent projects include a mixed-use project in Seattle’s International District and a 26-story condominium tower on First Hill. Bullis is a production expert, who will take an active role in training new employees. Brandon Nicholson, whose recent projects include a 105-unit condominium project at the foot of Wallingford Avenue near Gasworks Park and a new mixed-use project north of University Village. Scott Starr, whose recent projects include an 84-unit mixed-use project at Fifth and Yesler and a 20-unit condominium project on lower Queen Anne hill. Starr will spearhead Driscoll’s in-house design critique initiative, and continue to manage multiple projects. Milan Novacek was promoted to senior architect. Novacek will be a leader and mentor, as well as a primary source in technical expertise and systems integration. Prior to joining Driscoll Architects in 1997, he practiced architecture around the world. He is licensed in British Columbia and Northwest Territories, Canada. Jens Muller was promoted to senior project manager. Muller will implement new project management initiatives intended to increase organizational skills throughout Driscoll’s staff.
AMEC, one of the world's leading engineering and environmental consulting firms, continued its expansion of services in Washington state this month by opening an office in Mount Vernon and another in Olympia.
The Olympia office, which will focus on building materials inspection but also provide geotechnical and environmental services, is the second opened by AMEC in that city in two months. Last month, the company opened a separate Olympia office for natural resources work, including compliance with salmon protection requirements that will impact development projects throughout the Puget Sound area.
The Mount Vernon office will offer a full range of geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting and materials testing services and be headed by Paul Elliott, an engineering geologist who also is registered in Oregon, California and Arizona.
The newest Olympia office will offer quality-control and inspection services for residential, commercial and retail structures, highways, bridges, mid- to high-rise office buildings, educational facilities, hospitals, heavy industry and mining, as well as consultation for seismic upgrades and other improvements.

James Dexter recently joined INCA Engineers in Bellevue as a senior hydraulic engineer. Dexter’s 30 years of civil engineering experience includes 12 years as a consulting water resources engineer providing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of multiple-purpose water projects, and 18 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a civil engineer. His notable project experience includes hydraulic engineering for the Snoqualmie Ridge Development and the stormwater management plan for the Third Runway project at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. At INCA, he will provide his hydrologic and hydraulic design expertise to the firm's transportation and structural departments.
Tom Xia has been promoted to principal/technical director at D’Amato Conversano Inc. (DCI), a Bellevue-based, civil and structural engineering firm. Xia joined DCI in 1994 as project manager/technical director and was promoted to associate/technical director in 1996. He is a member of the lateral force committee and the professional practice committee of the Structural Engineers Association of Washington. His current projects include Overlake Hospital’s north parking garage in Bellevue, and the Marriott Springhill Suite Hotel in Hawthorne, Calif.
Jensen/Fey Architecture and Planning has added four new employees to its architectural staff. Forrest Jones is a licensed architect with 17 years experience in health care, special care, and parking facilities. He is currently project manager on the Ronald McDonald House expansion project in Seattle. Paul Wong has joined Jensen/Fey as a job captain and is working on the Hilton Garden Inn project at Seattle Center. For the last 10 years, he worked in Spokane, where he was a member of the city's community development board. Brent Croft is a job captain with experience in health care and hotel facilities. He is working on Education Hill Townhomes, Redmond, and two W Suites Hotel projects on the West Coast. Wade Kramer was hired by Jensen/Fey as a CAD drafter. He is working on several projects, including the Alliance Living Community at Maple Ridge, Whidbey Island, and the Elder Health Family Home in south Seattle.
Scott Schorn has been promoted to associate at HBB, a Seattle-based mechanical engineering firm. Schorn has 10 years educational, health care, retail and manufacturing project experience. He is managing the library remodel at Shoreline Community College and the Ridgeway Residence Hall and Bond Hall at Western Washington University.
Kevin Lindsey, will staff the new Kennedy/Jenks Consultants office in Richland. Lindsey has more than 13 years experience in geohydrologic characterization, geologic mapping and sedimentary basin analysis. Kennedy/Jenks Consultants provides multidisciplinary consulting services in water resources science; planning and engineering; water supply assessment; water quality assessment and wastewater treatment systems. The Richland office is Kennedy/Jenks Consultants' newest.
Catherine Vogt was newly hired at BJSS Duarte Bryant as a project architect/manager. Vogt is working on Seattle University's new Student Union and numerous K-12 projects. She has a varied design background, but concentrates on public and institutional projects. BJSS Duarte Bryant, a 60-person firm, focuses on higher education, K-12, law and justice, medical/laboratory and residential projects.
James Bianco, M.D., president and CEO of Cell Therapeutics in Seattle has been selected CEO of the Year by Washington CEO magazine. Under Bianco's leadership, the company was granted FDA approval to market Trisenox, the company's first commercial product. The approval propelled the company to be the second best performing Nasdaq stock, with a 544 percent return for the year.
Publicis in the West has recruited Kevin Kehoe and Randy Browning, formerly colleagues at Hal Riney & Partners, to serve as co-presidents in its Seattle office. In their new roles, Kehoe and Browning are charged with transforming the agency into a creative powerhouse of national significance. Kehoe, currently senior art director at Goodby Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, becomes co-president/chief creative officer. Browning, currently a senior vice president/group account director at Mullen in Boston, becomes co-president/chief marketing officer. They start Feb. 12. Kehoe and Browning are perhaps best known for their joint work on Saturn campaigns over three years in the late 1990s while at Hal Riney & Partners.
AskMe Corp. announced that Tom Orella has joined the company as vice president of sales. Orella will be responsible for worldwide sales of the company's knowledge sharing platform. Orella was formerly a vice president of sales at Internet Security Systems, a provider of information security management.
Bidpath Corp., a Seattle-based company that automates traditional auction companies and distributes their merchandise to targeted online buying communities, announced the appointment of Brad Stevens to the position of vice president of marketing. Stevens brings more than 18 years of consumer and business-to-business technology marketing experience to Bidpath. He will oversee all marketing communications, advertising, product management and public relations activities.
Leisure Care, a Bellevue-based retirement community management company, announced the promotions of four executives in its corporate office: Andy Gomes to senior vice president/operations, Bob Westerman to senior vice president/operations, Ellery Bennett to vice president/operations and Scott Haile to operations director. Gomes joined the company in 1990, Westerman in 1989, Bennett in 1996 and Haile in 1994.
Goldie Caughlin, nutrition education manager for PCC Natural Markets, has been appointed to the National Organic Standards Board. Caughlin will serve as one of consumer representatives for four years. She has worked as a consumer advocate for more than 25 years. She was one of the earliest advocates of organically grown foods and developed the nutrition education program at PCC during her 17 years on its staff.
