Foster Pepper & Shefelman announced that Sarah Johnson, Gregory Guedel, Thomas Parkes and Alexa Chiang have joined the law firm, practicing in the Seattle office and that Sara Ainsworth joined the firm as its public service counsel. Johnson joins as of counsel and concentrates her practice in litigation and intellectual. Guedel, Parkes and Chiang joined the firm as associates. Guedel's practice emphasizes civil litigation, Parkes concentrates on real estate transactions and Chiang focuses her practice in corporate finance and general corporate matters.
Ainsworth, who coordinates the firm's pro bono program, dedicates her entire case load to pro bono matters. Her practice concentrates on poverty and family law, with particular emphasis on domestic violence.

Linda Prather and Susan Warner have joined the staff at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Prather joins the museum as director of marketing and communications. Her last position was with Seattle Opera, where she was director of marketing and communications for eight years. Warner has more than 20 years of management, arts administration and education experience. She joins the museum from the Seattle Children's Museum where she was director of education. The museum also announced that James Carreker, founder and chairman of Aspect Communications Corp., located in San Jose, Calif., has been appointed to its board of trustees. The Museum of Glass is scheduled to open in July 2002.

Cleveland-based Waco Scaffolding & Equipment has opened a new branch office in Seattle, its first in the Northwestern U.S. Waco is a 57-year-old national supplier of scaffolding, shoring, and contractor supplies and equipment. The new branch is headed up by Steve Powell, a 27-year industry veteran. It will offer design, engineering, rental, sales and erection services to both the industrial and commercial markets. It also will offer training programs that meet or exceed OSHA standards. Waco's Seattle office is at 4260 W. Marginal Way S.W. Its phone number is (206) 935-1301.
George J. King Jr. has been named safety director for the Western Washington Sheet Metal Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, where he will provide safety and health-related training and consultation across the state for union sheet metal apprentices, journeymen and contractors. The position was created with grant monies jointly sought by and awarded to the committee, as well as the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local 66 and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association. King has over 10 years of experience as a journeyman boilermaker, plus over 12 years of construction safety experience with the WISHA program of the state Department of Labor and Industries.
HCI Steel Building Systems of Arlington has appointed Napoleon Ebro as engineer/checker for its West Coast operations. Ebro has relocated from a 12-year assignment in Saudi Arabia and has 20 years of experience in both pre-engineered steel buildings and structural steel.

@breifs:DDB and its direct marketing arm, hunt.DDBdirect, an advertising agency, announced two promotions and three new hires in its Seattle office. Chris Ostendorf was promoted to senior account executive/public relations and Stephanie Kinley was promoted to assistant account executive. Corey Moran joined the company as online strategist. Ryan McAuliffe was hired as a customer service assistant and Josh Bosse was hired as a mailroom clerk.
@breifs:The University of Washington announced a $10 million gift from a California businessman Neil Dempsey, University of Washington graduate, class of 1964, and his wife Janet to support the school's academics and athletics. Half of the money will go to the Business School's program in entrepreneurship and innovation. The other half will provide scholarships, refurbish the Conibear Shellhouse and help fund a multi-sport indoor practice facility. The practice center will open this summer as Dempsey Indoor.
Gov. Gary Locke appointed Delores Sibonga to the Washington Horse Racing Commission. The Governor also announced Barbara Shinpoch has agreed to remain on the commission. Shinpoch had earlier submitted her resignation but Locke declined to accept it. Sibonga served on the commission from August 1998, through April of last year. She served three terms on the Seattle City Council.
