Tikigaq Corp. announced the promotion of Andrew Schell to chief operating officer for the company, an Alaska Native Village Corp. created in 1971 by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act for the Village of Point Hope, Alaska. Formerly the chief financial officer for the company, he joined the firm in August 2000. He is now is responsible for all operations and management staff in the Anchorage office. His primary emphasis is in business planning, strategic assessment and operational enhancement.
Elliott Bay Design Group has appointed Charlie Bills to the position of staff operations manager for the naval architecture and marine engineering company based in Seattle. Bills will be responsible for planning and managing the efforts of the company's staff working in support of its project managers. He has 30 years of maritime experience including positions as deputy commander and base executive officer at San Juan and Puerto Rico.
The Society of Automotive Engineers has awarded Michael Seal, founder and director of the Vehicle Research Institute (VRI) at Western Washington University, its Excellence in Engineering Education Award. Seal was honored for his outstanding contributions made to Engineering Education Board activities. The VRI has been producing experimental vehicles since 1974.
Seattle Coffee Co. announced a partnership with Intrawest Resort Properties to serve Seattle's Best and Torrefazione Italia coffees in 13 winter and summer resorts throughout the U.S. and Canada. Resorts include, among others, British Columbia's Whistler/Blackcomb, Colorado's Copper Mountain and Vermont's Stratton.
McGowan Advertising, a Lakewood-based agency, has named Jennifer Ellison as its director of client services. In addition to account management responsibilities, Ellison will also serve as the agency's public relations director and chief copywriter. Her background includes a seven-year stint with Publicis in Seattle, where she developed and managed a variety of regional, national and international clients.
Northwest Lodging International has named Dan Shirk as the general manager of the Howard Johnson Inn in Kent. Shirk is responsible for all phases of the hotel's operations. Most recently, he was general manager at eh Shilo Inn Suites Hotel in Boise, Idaho
Rane Lottinville, founder of Katspan, has named Steve Skeel as CEO of the Kirkland-based general contracting firm. Katspan specializes in site preparation, utility construction and heavy civil work. Skeel has over 30 years of experience in management and administration of small- and medium-sized corporations in the commercial, industrial, marine and government fields.
The Seattle branch of Performance Abatement Services (PAS) and Performance Contracting Inc. (PCI) has hired Greg Nickell as superintendent of special projects. Nickell has been in the Northwest specialty construction services industry since 1987. He most recently was construction manager for all activities and projects in the Seattle and Portland offices for AC&S Inc. Nickell's experience includes asbestos and lead abatement, mold remediation, mechanical insulation, marine insulation, fire stopping and expansion joint installation. PAS/PCI is a specialty contracting company experienced in mechanical and marine insulation as well as abatement. Nickell's experience is expected to help expand the company's offering of services.
At the recent Federated Electrical Contractors meeting, Jerry Spalti, general manager of Holmes Communications, was appointed vice president of the FEC's Telecommunications Group. Spalti will serve a two-year term, and then will move up within the nonprofit association's offices; equating a six-year commitment by the time he has completed serving in each of the FEC offices. Part of Spalti's role as vice president includes setting policy and agenda items with the FEC president. Holmes Communications is part of Holmes Electric Co. of Renton. The company specializes in electrical contracting, telecommunications and integration services.
Patrick Fay, a professional engineer, has joined University Mechanical Contractors as a project manager. Fay has a broad background in mechanical projects in the Seattle area. University Mechanical is one of the largest design-build mechanical contractors in the state, specializing in piping, plumbing and ductwork for commercial and industrial projects.
