Cindy Hecker has been appointed associate administrator of patient care services (PCS) and chief nursing officer for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Hecker has worked at Harborview for the past 20 years, beginning as a staff nurse on the acute care general surgery unit and most recently served as the assistant administrator of PCS for critical care, the burn center and surgical services.

Seattle law firm Ogden Murphy Wallace announced that Phil Obrechts has returned to the firm as of counsel in the municipal department and that Tod Gold, Teena Williams, Tori Fischer, Emmelyn Hart-Biberfeld, Chris Ajemian and Deric Martin have become associates of the firm. Obrechts focuses on land use law. Gold and Williams join the firm's environmental law practice group. Fischer joins the business and estate planning departments. Hart-Biberfeld and Martin join the litigation department. Ajemian joins the business department.

Emerald Turfgrass Farms

Emerald Turfgrass Farms, established March 17, 1961, celebrates 40 years of sod production in the Puget Sound area. The sod-producing farm will move its corporate headquarters to its new location in Sumner on March 19. The new facility will also serve as the Puget Sound distribution yard.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society

The 12th Annual MS Walk, sponsored by Immunex, will be held on May 5, 6 and 12. Funds raised will support research efforts and programs for over 6,500 clients served by the Greater Washington Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Associated Grocers

Associated Grocers, a retail-owned cooperative of independent grocery stores throughout Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Rim, has named Bruce Turner as director of its produce sales and procurement division. Turner will be responsible for cultivating new produce vendor relationships, building consensus amongst members in order to leverage buying power and increasing market representation with the company's retail members

KPFF

KPFF Engineers has named John Hochwalt an associate. Hochwalt is lead structural engineer for the laboratory buildings at Immunex Corp.'s Research and Technology Center at Terminal 88. The $500 million Helix project -- the first phase of the new center -- totals 1.1 million gross square feet and is expected to be complete in fall/winter 2003.

Merritt+Pardini announced the promotion of Robert S. Berman to managing principal. Berman has overall management responsibility for the company. Berman has been involved in projects for King County Transit Oriented Development; the Port of Seattle; the city of Seattle Executive Services Department; and several municipalities and private developers.

Land Surveyors’ Association of Washington

The Land Surveyors’ Association of Washington (L.S.A.W.) announced the installation of R. William Glassey as its 2001 state president during its February Annual Meeting. Glassey is a surveyor with Barghausen Consulting Engineers, Inc. The association represents more than 900 professional surveyors and associates in twelve chapters located throughout Washington. It is dedicated to keeping its members educated and informed on technological changes in the industry while promoting high standards of professionalism.

Peter Z. Bulkeley of Sequim has been named president of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) for 2001. Terra Associates

Terra Associates announced the addition of Tim Huntting to its Kirkland staff. Huntting has more than 18 years experience involving complex site development issues including slope stability, excavation support and foundation design over a variety of soil and geologic conditions. A sampling of the projects he has been involved with include the Interstate 5 HOV lane widening southbound from Tukwila to Fife; the Camelot-Sylvan Interchange Highway 26, Portland; Seattle Sonics Training Facility; Swedish Hospital Medical Center, Seattle; and Western Processing Superfund site, Kent.

BOORA Architects

BOORA Architects recently named Isaac Campbell as an associate. Most recently with Cesar Pelli and Associates in Connecticut, Campbell was a design leader on several major projects in Japan, including the Anan Government Building and the Chubu Teiju Culture Center in Kurayoshi.

David Gabriel joined BOORA’s project team for the expansion and renovation of the Intramural Activities Building at University of Washington. His six years of experience includes schools, college and university student centers, libraries, recreational facilities, medical laboratories and housing.

Jennifer McDonald is the firm’s sustainable resource specialist. McDonald researches green building products, materials and systems; keeps staff up-to-date on sustainable products, issues and events; coordinates finishes specialties and sustainable language portions of specifications; and tracks applicable projects through the LEED certification process. McDonald is also serving on the Sustainable Suppliers Council.

Kendall Moreland is an interior design intern and is coordinating maintenance of the firm’s interior resource library as well as supporting a variety of design teams with assorted projects. A native Oregonian, Moreland graduated last year with a bachelor of interior architecture from the University of Oregon and has worked for the past two summers with other architecture firms in Portland.

Mirjana Munetic is a recent architecture graduate of University of Oregon and joins the firm as an architectural intern.

Jeremy Theodore is an architect responsible for the development of the exterior of a new middle school in The Dalles. Terry Werdel is the project architect for a new grade school for Lebanon School District. In addition to schools, his projects include recreation and community centers in Vancouver and Sherwood as well as commercial buildings.
