Mechanical contractor Holaday-Parks has named Eric van der Veen manager of its Plan/Spec Division. In his new role, van der Veen is procuring plan/spec projects, determining bid schedules, and managing estimators and project managers. He joined Holaday-Parks in 1995 as a project manager, and is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University. The Plan/Spec Division builds and installs HVAC systems designed by others.
The Inland Northwest chapter of the Associated General Contractors has received the James A. Cashman Trophy for its membership efforts. The Spokane-based chapter was cited for top membership growth in 2000 among the 102 chapters in the country. The award is based on a combination of total membership growth, retention of current membership, and membership marketing programs. The chapter is headed up by Ken Dunham, who helped the Montana Contractors' Association win the award in 1991.
Steelscape has added three employees to its Kalama facility. Included are Rebecca Brown, quality systems engineer, Mike Nelson, safety coordinator, and Robert Schuh, logistics and materials manager. Brown's responsibilities include developing and maintaining standard operating procedures and quality systems that are ISO compatible. She has over four years of experience in the steel industry and previously was the quality assurance in technology manager for Northstar Steel in Beaumont, Texas. She holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Utah. Nelson has nine years of experience as a safety coordinator, including a stint as safety coordinator at Vanalco in Vancouver. At Steelscape, he is responsible for the plant's overall safety program. He holds a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Montana State University and in safety engineering from Montana Tech. Schuh's responsibilities include raw materials supply, finished product shipping performances and developing customer programs. He previously worked for Reynolds Aluminum in Longview as an operations supervisor, and holds an associate degree in electronics technology from Lower Columbia College. Steelscape makes metallic coated and painted steel sheet products primarily for architectural roofing and siding on homes, commercial and industrial buildings, and large civic projects.

Greg Shugarts, owner of the Fastsigns store in Kirkland, was recently recognized with a regional sales award by Fastsigns International for having the highest gross sales of any Fastsigns in the western United States in 2000.
Preston Gates & Ellis, a Seattle-based law firm, has added two new partners to the firm. Christopher Hirst, municipal, focuses his practice in municipal and education law. Christopher Weinstein, technology and intellectual property, has experience working with both established enterprises and emerging companies.
The University of Washington announced the appointment of Kathleen Sellick as executive director of University of Washington Medical Center. Sellick has been serving as acting executive director since September of last year. She joined the UW Medical Center in January 1999 as associate executive director and chief operating officer.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the city of Kent by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report. The distinction is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Howard "Terry" Hall has been named a shareholder in the Seattle law firm of Wolfstone, Panchot & Bloch, where he will continue his litigation practice, emphasizing defense of toxic tort, products liability and employment cases.
