Studio 904, located in Seattle and Mercer Island, was selected as March’s Business of the Month as part of the Better Business Bureau/U.S. Bank Business of the Year Awards program. The program honors businesses in Western Washington for excellence in customer service, community involvement and innovative business practices. Studio 904 manufactures its own hair product line and donates 5 percent of product sales to charity. In addition, the company offers haircuts for low-income children, free haircuts/color for low-income women preparing for work, haircutting fundraisers to purchase school clothes for homeless children and job-training programs for students.
Mahmoud Shahrezaei has joined Dain Rauscher securities firm as an investment executive in its Silverdale office. Shahrezaei will assist individual and corporate clients in selecting investments and help clients develop retirement plans and money-management programs.
Knowledge Anywhere, a Bellevue-based provider of Web-based training solution, has named three business leaders to its board of directors. They are Mac Rogers, former senior executive vice president of Salomon Smith Barney; Allen Shoup, retired CEO of Stimson Lane Vineyards and Estates; and Ron Woodard, president and CEO of MagnaDrive and former president of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group
Several promotions have been made at Rafn Co. Included are: Shawn Rhode to chief operations officer, Steve Stroming to business unit operations director and Carl Lindstrom to business unit client relations director. Rhode joined Rafn in 1982 as an apprentice carpenter and moved up to engineer, superintendent and general superintendent through the years. In his new role, he will oversee field and business unit operations. Stroming is overseeing operational issues for the commercial business team. He has been with Rafn for 10 years and has worked as an architect, project engineer, project superintendent, team leader, project manager and senior project manager. He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture. Lindstrom's new responsibility is building and maintaining client relationships for the commercial business team. He has 18 years of industry experience and has worked as a project manager and senior project manager. He holds a bachelor's degree in building construction from the University of Washington.
Thomas Keown has joined the Highline Water District as its district engineer. In his new role, Keown is responsible for managing many of the district's large-scale projects, and for ensuring state and federal regulations are met for the district's capital improvement projects. He most recently worked for Pierce County's Environmental Services Department. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Seattle University.
GLY Construction superintendent Jerry Cochrun Jr. has won the 2000 National Superintendent Safety Award from the Associated General Contractors of America. Presented at the AGC's national convention in Nashville, Tenn., the new award recognizes outstanding supervisory safety performance based on safety training, certifications, leadership and effective safety practices. Cochrun was selected for his work on the Overlake Hospital Medical Center campus expansion project in Bellevue, which was finished in September. GLY was also honored with second place in the 2000 National Construction Safety Excellence Award for its safety program and commitment to a safe and healthy work environment.
DP Inc., a Seattle-based commercial tenant improvement and interior general contractor, has announced that Eric Brock and Heike Gutfrucht have joined as account managers. Brock held multiple positions during a 12-year career ranging from general manager to sales and marketing manager with various companies, specializing in commercial construction. Gutfrucht has recently returned from Europe, where she worked for several years in sales and marketing for an international aerospace firm.
Engineered Products has bought Gadco Material Handling, expanding its presence into the Portland area. Gadco has been servicing the material handling market in the Portland area for over 30 years and Engineered Products has logged over 20 years in the Northwest. The companies supply and install warehouse equipment, pallet racks, shelving, mezzanines, modular offices, lockers, conveyors, ergonomic workbenches, loading dock equipment and industrial doors.
North Star Enterprises of Liberty Lake, Spokane County, has won second place in the AGC of America's Safety Excellence Program. Judging criteria for the award included corporate commitment, employee training, safety innovations and overall safety record. North Star, a traffic control firm, has not had a fatal accident in its 17-year history. The company also developed specialized equipment that sets out and picks up traffic control signs and cones. That technology has since been adopted by several state departments of transportation.
