Fred and Willie Grimm will be honored as the 2001 Business Person (Couple) of the Year. They have given a combined 60 years of service to the Bainbridge Island community. Mr. Grimm started his orthodontist practice in 1970. He was a founding commissioner for the Parks and Recreation Board and has been active in Kiwanis, Stevens Pass Junior Ski Racing Program, and the island's Harbor Patrol for water-skiers. Mrs. Grimm began as a volunteer in 1970 at the Bargain Boutique, which supports the Children's Hospital in Seattle. She become manager in 1980 and still serves in that capacity. Don Nakata will be honored in memoriam. A life-time island resident, Don was president of the Town and Country Thriftway parent corporation. He was involved in many community activities and in September 2000 he and his wife Ellen lead a 634-person team in the Race for the Cure. Nakata died October 3, 2000 at age 66.
XL images, a Seattle-based creative group and large format graphics manufacturer, has purchased large format digital print-house SuperGraphics of Sunnyvale, Calif. The combined entity will retain the SuperGraphics name and continue production in California and Seattle. XL images' Seattle-based parent company GM Nameplate specializes in the custom design and manufacture of product identification components, electronic input devices and molded assemblies. The company owns and operates manufacturing plants in Washington, Oregon, California, North Carolina and Singapore.
Preston Gates & Ellis announced that David Domansky has been named of counsel in its Seattle law office. Domansky has broad corporate transactional experience focusing primarily on the development and financing of domestic and international independent power and energy projects. He also advises clients in structuring and implementing joint ventures, limited partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, and, stock purchases and sales.
Thomas LaTour, CEO of the Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, operators of the Alexis Hotel, Hotel Monaco and Hotel Vintage Park in Seattle, has been elected tot he additional position of chairman of the board of the company following the recent death of company founder William Kimpton. LaTour is responsible for the overall strategic and operational direction and growth of the company

CapitalStream, a Seattle-based provider of Web infrastructure, announced the promotion of Alan Fuhrman to senior vice president and chief financial officer. Fuhrman's promotion follows his efforts in helping CapitalStream close two rounds of equity financing, including a $20 million round in March. His prior experience as a CFO includes 10 years of developing high-growth technology companies prior to joining CapitalStream, including Neopath and Innovation.
The Columbia River Maritime Museum announced the addition of Crindalyn Stevens to the staff. Stevens will be director of marketing and public relations. Located in Astoria, Ore., the Columbia museum displays one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the West Coast.
Open Telecommunications, a global telecommunications company backed by Cisco, announced the appointment of Colin Chandler to the position of CEO for the North America office headquartered in Seattle. Colin has more than 20 years of international experience in the telecommunications industry and steps in as CEO after serving as chief operating officer for the company's North America operations.
